probably the most haunting scene ive ever seen in a movie. and the reason what happened inside the bus is not shown has nothing to do with it being a hollywood movie or not. its because its not what the movie is about. the movie is about the survivor's guilt. showing any more of the not hard to imagine scenes inside the bus would clearly take away from that. its not about the kids dying its about everyone else having to live with that. somehow life goes on.

That was a pretty shocking scene seeing the bus sink into the ice so quickly. If this was a hollywood film, they would have shown what was going inside the bus as it sank. Thank god this movie just left it to our imaginations.

Interesting fact: the movie and book are inspired by a true story of a bus crash the occurred in Alton,Texas. Rest in peace of the 21 students that died on September 1989

One of my favorite movies of all time, and a wrenching, powerfully sad scene.

Best film ever. Really. Go check it out you will be awed. Spine tingling. Great score. Great character actors. Ian Holm dominates. Art.

Those kids running happy towards the camera with the train in the background is one of those unforgettable shots in cinema history. The innocence and blissful ignorance of youth

    INTERESTING TIDBIT:
This movie ran for two Oscars in the same year as Titanic. Also, there were two Canadians, that year, competing as Best Director: James Cameron (for Titanic), and Atom Egoyan (for this one).

Excellent film. Not often the movie is better than the book, but I think this is.

I think they’re both great, but I acknowledge the movie had some nice tweaks to Russell Banks’ story.

How in the world did Egoyan get that bus to do just that? This was not CGI. This was brilliant production/direction.

Just found something cool! The vfx guy posted a video of this scene, and in the description he writes how they made this bus sink into the ice. It's all CGI! th-cam.com/video/uf43Jp-mvAU/w-d-xo.html

This is up there with What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Boys Don't Cry and Requiem for a Dream. So good though I end up putting myself through one of them every year and then going to the ER for a Prozac IV drip ;)

No. That is the Father of the two kids he was waving to on the bus. Mason and Jessica. This movie is based on a book which is inspired by a very real tragic bus accident.

In Russell Banks novel Rule of the Bone the main character lives in the resurrected wreck of the bus in a junk yard not knowing what happened to it.
