How come in most if not all videos where humans encounter seals, they don't pet them? I wouldn't be able to refrain from petting a curious plump baby seal.
He's not wrong about it being illegal though, and for good reason. It really stresses the animal, can lead to injury for the human (they are cute but still wild animals), and can cause a mother to separate from the pup prematurely. Appreciation from afar is the kindest 🙂
A) - legality issues. B) - Safety for both the seals and the humans. C) - a LOT of documentaries you see, are filmed at a great distance with big fancy zoom lenses; very often the camera crew are nowhere NEAR as close as the film makes it look! As they shouldn't! You should always keep a distance of about 100-150 feet at LEAST, from a seal!
Excellent documentary! I've been kayaking off the coast of Dublin for the past while now and a large male grey seal came up to my kayak both today and yesterday, hence my newfound interest in them. He was often less than two meters from my kayak, very curious creature. I've taken to calling him Jerry and I hope he comes to see me in the future, I of course keep my distance where I can. If I recall correctly, fishermen operating trawlers want more licenses given-out to shoot these animals! I am unfamiliar with how much seals may take from a net of fish but, I can't imagine it being that many, is it really enough to warrant injuring and killing these animals? I most certainly doubt it, wouldn't the seagulls flocking around the boats take more? I don't see how they can severely deplete fisheries either. Trawling can already deplete fisheries and kill non-targets like marine mammals and sharks, why must we cause more death?
I agree completely. Fishing farms are a proven thing now - they should just switch from open sea trawling to farming them. It would save the wild populations so much.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing footage, and knowledge of these beautiful beings 🙏💗 I think my only constructive criticism would be the "creative liberties" that seem to have be taken regarding language, such as - "abandoning pups" (its the natural time for the Mothers to move on, not abandonment) or describing some scenes in ways that did not seem accurate, which may have added more humor (?) but I could only think about how what was described did not seem to match what was happening. I truly mean no offense with this!! I absolutely adore the video and thank you so much for it, that was just something I noticed while watching
Hi Matt, I was wondering if I could speak to you about possibly using some of this footage for the ITV show 'Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh'. Please let me know how is best to contact you! Thanks, Ellie!

Not, she isn't crushing
They roll, rest then roll and argue
then roll
Cute .. but how bad can a ballo seal bite?
If you're a human - they can bite VERY badly indeed! Their mouths being full of bacteria that can cause VERY horrid infections in humans!
is anyone else watching this video because of homework too? very good documentary tho!
Sea doggo :D
Did you notice any bigger seal pup being washed away by the sea or tortured by bull seals?
Aww poor guys need toys to play with

Pinnipeds are really something
tell me grey seal, how does it fell to be so wise?
👍👍🏴🏴
So much inconsistencies with Seal docus though I thought a Seal's milk is 50% that makes pups gain 2kg everyday
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
4:51 so so cute 😁😍😚
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Success crying while drinking cute n sad though 😙😙
You must be blind. That pup was doing everything right. The cow was moving around and away from the pup to keep it from suckling.
That's a messed up way to travel when its easier to roll around than to inch worm around the beach!
18:24 what is that music?
@@mattknowler thanks
An ancient treasury
yes

Ah, more sea dogs
