I love this guy - he's the best! He needs to do an update video if available. American Flayer S scale / gauge is not easy to work with for that realistic look. He makes it look easy. This is an art, working with S scale. American Flayer is the most fun train set for kids and adults alike. I have S scale New Haven railroad EP-5 electric engine with passenger commuter cars in a box. I want to start a layout bad but have a lot going on right now. Thanks 👍 for the video- much appreciated. I have something to work with when I'm ready. ROCK 🤘

It's great to see something built in the 1940s to 50s still run great.

We need guys like you to keep the hobby (and especially AF) alive. Many thanks.

Dawns on me why this, in my opinion, is the best S gauge video. The camera dude used the size of the trains to use many low angles to make it look realistic plus Cloud runs long freights of almost nothing but boxcars much like real railroads often did in the steam age.

Beautiful designs , great description .
I got my first layout in 1956 , it was a Lionel . My cousin had American Flyer and was always fascinated by the scale .
Liked my couplers better , but the 2 rail looked so good !
    Great hobby .

Love your trains! I inherited my late Step Father's 1955 AF set.

Although I've dominantly been into O gauge and O gauge scale Hi Rail most of my life, I've always felt that S gauge or S scale was the ideal size for model trains. Being larger than HO, it was large enough to offer a realistic appearance. But, being somewhat smaller than O, it offered the you the ability to construct a more elaborate layout in the same or lesser space than O gauge did.

I agree with you, buth in Europe material of s-gauge is difficult to get, and meanwhile in h0-gauge is plenty of choice. How is that in the USA?

      @jockellis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

eric van der sterren Eric, it is much the same but as Alvin Toffler predicted in his 1970 book “Future Shock” as society becomes more technical we will have more choices. Computerized wood cutting now allows companies making wooden structures to change from HO to O to S to N with a couple of keystrokes and several companies have realized that they can do S or N with virtually no increase in production expense.

Indeed, I agree that s is an ideal scale. Just big and small enough at the same time. Buth since the European market offers litle, or nothing in this scale, I choose for h0. Buth in Europe, you have in this scale so much choice, that's the adventage of h0.

eric van der sterren Funny thing about model railroading is that a lot of backyard 1/8th scale steamers here go with cute little European engines. I’ve got lots of HO scale trains and a layout that was almost finished when I flipped on its side in the garage and put a project car in its place. I might put it up in the room over the garage sometime soon.

What a beautiful model, I really like the old school look and vintage models. All I ever see on TH-cam are toy layouts with lots of plastic and out of scale accessories but this model shows off the fact that American Flyer trains are scale models and not toys. I would love to see more of the different trains running!

Our American Flyer set was in the attic. It had two levels, and a long train could loop under its own caboose on the way back down. When the change came down from link to so called knuckle couplers, There were a few kind of "translating cars?" with link couplers at one end and knuckle couplers on the other. It was great to set the trains to run and then get to eye level with the track. I like your video and the editing is pretty good. Sunrise Highway? Wow! Our family used to go to the Sunrise Drive In Theater!

What kind of track is he using? Electric trains are magic. Show one like this to a little boy age, say, 2 to 102, and he can't help but smile.

There is a big difference between scale and gauge. American is S gauge, certainly not S scale, which is much more detailed and less toy-like than S gauge.

Love the two-rail tracks! More of the trains and layout as Cloud talks.
    "O"-gauge block signals? No mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* ?
Why run the trains so unrealistically fast? Let'see them. Let'see the switches and locomotives.

the only reason I clicked on this video is I got on of my American flyer locomotives back from loaning it to a club, she's back on the Kent fleet, and I know this sounds weird, but I don't scrap or get rid of my engines or cars

I used to belong to a model train club and all I saw was ho or on3 mostly ho they should consider an s scale club and go to train shows and introduce s as a scale that's not too small or too big then there's n track they also monopolise the market so s scale dies because it's not advertised as much there should be a magazine for s scale don't you agree?

A few cars are scale cars left over from somewhere. The layout is great with real photo shots that show the trains at eye level. Most layouts have very non professional photography that are too far away and worse of all photo just the engine all around the layout for the whole video. Ten seconds on any engine is enough to not bore me and put me to sleep! Keep up some new videos for us real American Flyer lovers. None of that awful looking S gauge from other mfrs. AF are the most realistic toy trains ever made!
