As for the locomotives in this wreck, 5045 was totally destroyed and was never rebuilt. Not only that, but both AEM-7s 903 and 900 plus a few of the Amfleet 1s on the front of the consist were also deemed a total loss and scrapped. However, 5052 was eventually repaired and returned to service as was 5044 which had minor damage.

This happen before the big bayou cannot wreck. And the conrail crew lied. So both amtraks and one conrail were destroyed. Leaving 5044 and 5052 to be repaired but retired.

Actually 5044 & 5052 is still in service in Brazil, now rebuilt into BB36-7 to operate on 3ft 3in gauge track

The sad thing is that this was all caused by the driver and brakeman of the conrail train doing marijuana and the fact that the Amtrak was speeding.
