  • Now that I am retired, I just might show my life and some of the towns around me. My Brother and Dad, live on the same Dead End Road and yea, maybe we just might get into trouble a little, but have fun doing it. It is time to start smelling the Roses on the way instead of looking at them and passing them by.

    Thanks for the detailed video. The guys at the Valvoline oil change shop took out the cabin filter off our son's 98 Century and tried to sell him a new one, but when he didn't purchase it they just tossed everything (rain diverter, etc.) in and hid it underneath the cowling, secured it with only one plug and didn't say anything. My son wondered why his car leaked (flooded) for the next two months. Your video helped me know where everything went once I pulled off the cowling and reassembled the mess.

      You are right about the flooding. This was my daughters collage car.It was flooded all winter until I got the car back home. What a simple fix to stop the leaking and who knew. Thanks for watching Tom Ives

    Thanks for your video. Just picked up a 2000 Regal for our daughter's first car and wanted to check the filter. The plastic grill piece was just laying flat on top of the filter. I did not know how it went on , but knew that wasn't correct since it was not physically attached to anything. Your video helped me make it right. The sad thing is that the previous owner had all service done at the dealership and provided the receipts to prove it. Go figure.

    I didn't even know I had a cabin filter (excuse me, IN-CABIN!)! After owning it 5 years lol.
    I'm pretty sure it was the factory one because it was disgusting! Mine's a 98' so imagine what it looked like... 🤮🤮🤮.
    Thanks for the help because I never would have figured it out. No wonder nobody checked it when I get it inspected/maintenanced.
    What a pain!

      lol, I let the story go a bit to far. You would think they would just sell the part without the training of the exact name they put on it. You are right about the location of this filter as well. Enjoy your car as I did for the short time I had it.

    I have a 1999 Buick Regal, which is basically the same car. My car has 34,000 miles. The filter was replaced at one time and was filthy.
    From what I understand, they don't filter anything in recirculate mode. At least, not on these cars. Great job on the video, Mike.

      @justmike57  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cars were made about the same to save on money for making the same parts on these cars. That makes it easier for us sometimes to work on the cars and interchange parts on the same year, but different styles of cars. Great to see ya and hear from you Dan.

    Looks great, I have tried many things on the hinges of my car. The things that worked the best are, penetrating oil to get things loosened up, then some type of grease to add the continual lubrication it will need over the years, white grease is ok. And I too just love the new words they come up with for old items. It's like "What country are you from? Because you're not from this planet!"

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes R S Ander, you are right about that. WD-40 has an acid in it to eat the rust, then because of the acid, it will rust back up, so you are right again about the grease. They make a boat grease for boat trailers that I was going to use, because it is more waterproof. White grease is also if you have it, and white grease usually is food grade not that it matters, because I am not going to eat the door, lol.

    Cabin Air Filter is what it’s listed as in the systems at Auto part stores and what it’s called never heard of the “in” cabin air filter term used before so people just say cabin air filter

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, I guess the whole point is that they know what I want and not to train me to say the exact words before they will look up the right one. • @justmike57
      @justmike57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed the roller cap in the door was really rusted. Things are quieter, but might have to use a bit of grease on that part Karen. I use to paint cars in my spare time, and the paint would fisheye big time or totally slide off that area.

  • @Dave-jc6ky

    Do you happen to know what that plastic part, perhaps cowl, that covers where the cabin filter is and goes against the lower part of windshield is called? Do you know if there is any type of seal/weather-strip that goes in between that plastic part and where it contacts the windshield?

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I am not sure what the cover to the filter is called. I don't think you need to worry about the rubber or a sealant against the window. It's ok to have water drip because I do believe there is a gutter like thing to catch the drips and as long as the cover and weather stripping is properly in place, you should be good to go.

    Is that one of the reason why my ac not working when I put Freon on or some

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be a reason for water getting in the car on the passenger side or even lack of air coming into the car. The AC, I would think would be watching to see if your fan comes on when it starts up or you also might have a grounding problem with the unit or switch. I am not an expert on the AC. just know some signs that you have to watch for.

      I don't have the car anymore, but as low as most cars set close to the ground, you would nee car ramps to drive the car on in order to get to the oil drain plug. And you would need to have your recommended oil and filter for your car as well, before you start.
