- The recent teaser adverts from SWATCH GROUP and subsequent social media posts now confirm that the follow up to the OMEGA x SWATCH Moonswatch will be that a Bioceramic BLANCPAIN, due to be released in just a few days time on 09.09.2023.
My watch industry sources have given me all the inside information on this new release which I share in this video ahead of the official launch.

Very much looking forward to this and happy to see they are going for the Bathyscaphe. I hope next year they will also bring the Breguet Type XX/20 as a Swatch version. Hopefully that will put also Breguet in people’s focus, as hopefully this year the focus of the public will go to Blancpain‘s Fifty Fathoms. I think this is a playful way of the Swatch Group to remind the world that there are brands other than Rolex out there.

If most of the watch community have little love or desire for BlancPain, there is zero hope this will do anything for the general public! Other than it might look like a cool watch and be affordable. As a long time owner of more than one BP watch, I'm happy to sit back and watch the madness unfold!

@@duncanwood4489 the ff is by far one of the most well respected divers in the industry, but even besides that the Villaret is one of the most swiss-blooded dress watches out there, the only watch giving them competition at that price range is the vc fiftysix
the only range of blancpain that doesn't really have too much going for it is the air command with bp not really having any military history besides the ff
but I've seen nobody who's into watches who isn't salivating on blancpain

Having queued from 6am in the past and threatened many times it will happen. My hope is that this will have to be around £300-400 to reflect better build quality and mechanical. That should put some of the scalpers off.
Agree. This ruins the release for me. With one side of their mouth, Swatch is saying “Blancpain for all,” while on the other side, they’re telling consumers “dance for me if you want the privilege of being able to give me your money.” It’s distasteful

That would be terrible because prices will start to get artificially inflated like Rolex, Patek and AP. Blancpain and Breguet have been great kept secrets and prices have been fair. I’m about a month away from pulling the trigger on a Bathyscaphe and really don’t want to have to read my savings account to get it now.

Last week I saw one of my local boutiques which I follow posting stories of the BP FF Chrono to which I thought, thats weird… They usually post only Pateks and Breitlings 99% of the time with a dash of JLC and Omega every once in a blue moon but I had never seen them post Blancpain. Few days later and boom it all makes sense.
I think I need that red and white Sistem 51 to go with my Mission to Mars.😂

You obviously haven't watched the video. The name hasn't been officially announced, nor has there been any indication of the designs or movement being used. All Swatch has told us so far is that it will be a Blancpain collaboration and the release date.
Will they go on sale on 9-9 or is that day they announce when they will go on sale

To all the haters, another brilliant move from the Swatch Group. The MoonSwatch was a million dollar success, and as before, they’re going to be smiling all the way to the bank. FF is an excellent piece, but 45mm is too large for most wearers. A toned down bioceramic offspring would be nice in several colors 😊

@@stephen9609no pain at all. They increased brand awareness and drove traffic to Omega boutiques and sold lots of real Omega watches. The moonswatch wasn't the money maker but was designed to drive sales of real Omega watches and it was a success according to the CEO. If your goal was to sell lots of cheap plastic watches then that would damage the brand but if your goal was instead to use those trinkets to drive interest in the real watches then it was a success.
Hate is a big word. Let's face it. The MoonSwatch was shoddy at best. And now there's a plastic automatic watch, at just under £400! Really?
Yes - Swatch and Omega were more than happy as both massively increased their sales. I hope the same will happen for Blancpain.

How does a plastic use align with blancpains commitment to ocean preservation
Great move for the swatch group where top line revenue is all that matters but it undermines Blancpain as a brand. Luxury prestige brands don't kick out cheap plastic disposable replicas . It brings more attention to the brand but 99% of those people won't buy a real Blancpain and it just damages the brand long term

I think this is a great collaboration and just in time for the Fifty Fathom’s 70th anniversary. I wish Swatch Group and Blancpain will use this release to educate the market that the Fifty Fathoms was the first modern dive watch. They should also mention that Blancpain‘s CEO was accompanied by an employee of Rolex while he was testing a Fifty Fathoms prototype.
If it's any kind of a success I suggest waiting for the inevitable higher quality and lower priced Pagani Design homage. It should be all metal, serviceable and not a throw-away.

It looks great, but I am not sure it will be popular like the MoonSwatch, as fewer people know Blancpain.
And it will be just as much a piece of crap as the moonswatch.
That's the $64m question.... but I think Swatch Group's hope is that many more people will know about Blancpain after this is released, purely from the attention it's likely to get in mainstream media (newsprint and magazines like GQ etc).
Hopefully not quite so poorly made if they have indeed taken onboard some of the criticisms, which is what I've heard.
I think it all depends on the price point, if it’s priced only slightly higher than the moonswatch people like myself will buy it (a watch guy who loves the bathyscaphe but doesn’t want to shell out for one). If it’s over £400 they’ll sit on shelves…
He just repeated what anyone with a decent knowledge of the brands would come up with on their own. We Swatch collectors figured it out within about 15 minutes of the post. Was fairly simple image had a JB crown its the 70th year of the Fifty Fathoms and since its an automatic its obviously going to be a sistem51. The fact the teaser had five sections of water was a clear indication of five watches.

Yikes... why the Bathyscape? The Fifty Fathoms OG design would be waaay better for brand and model awareness! Doing the Bathyscape model would be like Swatch making the MoonSwatch based on the Speedmaster reduced.. lacks the oomph..

The Swatch Group are monsters. They destroyed Omega’s credibility. Now they are going after Blancpain. Swatch can call their new plastic shitter the Swatch BlankPain with 5 meters of water resistance. What a failure. I refuse to ever buy anything from Swatch Group ever again.
Very interesting. My only reason for not buying would be if they used the Sistem 51 movement. It's not meant to be serviced. It's completely assembled by robots and is a neat movement for sure but also meant to be thrown away. Great vid!

@@Escapement24 Hey Pal. The MoonSwatch being a quartz watch is a lot less complicated and less prone to failure than a Sistem51. And with the MoonSwatch if it "fails" it is most likely just a dead battery that's easily replaceable by the consumer. It'll be interesting to see what these look like and if there are any mechanical issues down the road.

Do you know the range of price this watch will cost? And will it be a limited edition or not?
I'm expecting it to be in the region of £300/$350 - more expensive than the Moonswatch to account for the Sistem51 movement. Rather than limited by numbers I think it will be limited by the amount of time they continue to produce them, but AI would anticipate that being 18-24 months depending on the sales numbers

Available to purchase, but only at a limited number of Swatch stores I believe. In the UK for example it's likely to be stores in London and Edinburgh as they did with the Moonswatch release.
After the MoonSwatch all i can think is "meh". I still have the curious feeling of wasted potential.

It’s going to be a chunky watch due to the System 51 caliber. We will see. But it isn’t a similar marketing stunt as the launch of the MoonSwatch.
If its the Bathyscaphe and not 50 Fathoms, then I'm not interested... also if it doesn't have solid build and 100mWR then I'm not interested... Because I can also see the price being way more than MoonSwatch. Well I know I will have enough time to think about it because MoonSwatch took 8 months to be available in my Country 🇧🇭, now they is stock waiting on the counter. Let the games begin!
The picture I saw of the prototype had the Bathyscaphe case shape and bezel, but FF style indices like the Hodinkee collab from a few years ago, so very much a hybrid. Of the 5 versions due to be released I wouldn't be surprised to see one that more closely resembles the FF.

Thanks for the information. Just subscribed. I think it's a tragedy that another good brand has been dragged into this cheap money grab. However, as Blancpain are not really as much a household name as Omega, there may not be the same madness. I admit I got the Moonswatch in İstanbul where for some reason the queues were not so long, though they did sell out. Thought it could be a fun summer watch. What I got for my money was a frayed strap within a week, a crystal scratched by a linen shirt cuff, a top button lost on the street, ironically, as I was passing the Audemars Piguet store, and to top it off, a blue wrist from leaching dye. For the last issue, I just went back to the store and got a refund. I'm not sure if they'd have blamed the other stuff on me or not. Anyway wearing it makes one feel like a grown man wearing his child's toy watch that came out of a Christmas cracker. I won't be repeating the experience. 😉

I m curoius whether the Sistem51 will have the same hype and mass appeal as the MoonSwatch as most people are not familiar with Blainpain. Only the very harden watch enthusiasts know the Fifty Fathom. Even fewer people know the Bathyscaphe. Swatch has become a one-trick pony and it’s sad to see Swatch Group is whoring out its classic brands and associating them with cheap plastic throwaways. Swatch Group is desperate! If it has an automatic movement, the Sistem51 won’t be cheap. One of the appeals of the MoonSwatch was the price and the novelty. But the Sistem51 won’t have either of these. Swatch has finally milked the idea dry. They are done.
People will move over to Japan for watches of those prices now.

In the UK the Sistem51 watches currently in the Swatch range are priced at roughly £120-200. I understand this one will be around £300/$350 but we'll see in a few days.

Imagine the fragility of the moonswatch, and add a rotating bezel. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

It’s all a nice idea, but they need to get the lines under control. Maybe they have learnt a thing or two in the meantime from Apple. Otherwise we will see exactly the same thing again as we did last year in London in particular with the Moonswatch and the Bamford Casio. - And no, online is not a solution as we have seen with Bamford last year (They were gone in five minutes)
Completely agree - I think the fact that they are planning a retail only launch again at selected locations tells me that this is more a marketing initiative designed to create hype and coverage for Blancpain, rather than an attempt to sell watches

My understanding is only in selected Swatch stores as it was with the launch of the Moonswatch. In the UK it's likely to be London and Edinburgh only for example.

For a bit more change than a new Swatch moon watch and probably the same goes for this collaboration with Blancpain, you could get a real vintage Omega, or Tag, Grand Seiko, Le Coultre, etc…and not an overpriced Swatch stamped with Omega or BlancPain labels.
Nothing here we Swatch collectors haven't already discussed days ago... Including those of us who was at that meeting. Also those cases are empty the watches will be sent later.

@@Escapement24 I totally understand that the Swatch Group will do anything to reel in new costumers. The ask for Omega Speedmasters after the Moonswatch is proof that it can be the gateway drug to have an affordable collab. This one is more interesting for me than the last one, since I like the design more. But I am wondering if they will sell more BP models, since the price point of BP is higher than that of Omega. Time will tell!

I don't have any hard info on the price so didn't want to commit to that, but my suspicion is in the £300/$350 region given that the current Swatch pieces that use the Sistem51 are priced around £120-£200 here in the UK.

Thanks 🙏 for the update! Now let’s speculate on the price. My assumption is that it would probably be in the sub $650 range. However IMHO this is not going to have the mass appeal that the Omega one did, because of brand recognition and aesthetics. The speedy is very handsome and a universally loved design, the FF… not so much. We shall see what effect this has on the BlancPain brand in the long run.

What’s the point, still today its a pain to get the omega moonswatch! No point bringing out a watch that nobody can get hold off! I hate to do this, but we need to boycott the shit until they get the idea. That is no point bringing a watch out if we can’t buy it.

Clearly a lot can change in a year since the prototype was shown. I compared the picture of it to the actual releases last night and barely anything has remained 🤷
Calling a spade a spade. Aside from the watch community, no wanted a or knew of Blancpain prior to this month… now suddenly everyone likes it, especially the hypebeasts. Plenty of great, well built watches can be had for around the +/- $300 to $500 USD, but I am sorry, it doesn’t have the “Blancpain logo” on there. Tell me I am wrong?
