Pea chicks need to be kept just with other pea chicks and in a wire bottom cage until 4 - 5 months old. You will continue to loose them if kept on the ground. Also vitamin’s and minerals in their water whit a high protein food. :)

Or instead of having to go through all those extra steps you could just make sure you're ground is not contaminated I mean it's that simple and about keeping pea chicks with other pea chicks as long as your other birds don't have anything that can be transmitted to a different species of bird you won't have single problem with it
Patience with the feral kitten. It'll come around, as long as you spend LOTS of time with it, so it gets used to you. I've rescued two... your snagging it up, with the net behind it to keep it from snagging YOU with its claws and biting you... reminded me of what I went through when I caught my two and what we went through to tame them. NOW, they are the sweetest, loving cats. Oldest is going on six years, younger is one year old. In fact, the youngest one gets separation anxiety now, when I'm out of the house just to do chores outside. My hubby tells me he sits at the door, waiting for me to return.

I was told by a peacock breeder not to put the peachicks on the ground until they were about 4 months old. Mine are 2 months and still I’m a brooder.

In the wild they have a much higher hatchling mortality rate, and live a quarter of their lifespan. Domesticated peafowl are different than wild peafowl

This is true, they always pick up small rocks and wood chips and die. Kind of like ostrich chicks
It could be that they aren't feeding them the right feed.
I've never fealt so lucky for all the wild peacocks we have living on our property. They are naturally the strongest. There has been one white one that survived and he's growing up wonderfully! But seeing how hard it is to keep them alive in a breeding situation.... makes me so so very appreciative of what nature has brought to us. We put a good feed and water out for them. They thank us with beautiful feathers every year, AND they are the BEST alert system. Most of all.... we have no dangerous rattle snakes on our property thanks to them. As they naturally will kill them. It's a great symbiotic relationship
Love the tour, I live in Hawaii and our friends raise peacocks. They are very fragile untill 6 months. Always sanitize the living area before introducing them some where new and keep them away from other species untill half a year old. They have to build up their gut bacteria that they would get from their parents if raised naturally
I think a village would be better simply because you guys have one less thing to move around each month. I recommend putting the village in an area you plan to grow crops. Kinda like 4 corners you have 4 corners for each season. The chickens will weed and scratch the soil and fertilize the area and you can grow crops on the other corners. After that season you move em chickens to the next house for em so they can clean up the leftovers of crops you either missed or don't want. In that process they would also decrease the chance of fleas and flies over populating the area. If anything if you want to experiment with something try putting a few chickens in the cow area and see if the cows would be OK with it. If they don't mind the chickens you'd be able to decrease chances of fleas and flies in the cow area making the cows sick in the future should that accor. That idea tho is up to you as I have heard of cows eating birds if they're hungry enough probably put chickens or roosters your not too attached to just in case something goes wrong. Thats only if you want to experiment this as you don't have to. You can simply have a narrow area around the cows like a chicken run so they can run freely and it would have a similar effect on decreasing chances of too many flies and fleas. Depending on how well you do the chicken runs you might be able to get away with the chickens wondering around at night without them getting hunted by predators cause the fencing is too narrow for the sky and the ground is too fortified for em to dig under. Incase you have foxes in the area.
I was going to suggest something similar. With a village you could do some type of rotation with birds and crops. The composting ease alone would be worth it.

I’ve read that some peafowl keepers won’t allow their chicks to touch bare earth until they are well established, and that if you are raising them near other types of fowl they can catch fatal diseases that the other fowl can withstand. I hope this helps! Love your channel ❤️
I’ve been telling them this but they apparently don’t listen. If u scroll I’ve noticed everybody telling them this and they haven’t liked a single comment about that but they liked any other comment. 😒 I like their channel and been watching for years I just wish they would take advice a little better. When u have a lot of ppl telling them u somethin… it just might work 😅

I would absolutely love three or four buildings for breeding. I know I’d love the buy some of your indio huge birds. (Don’t know the spelling-sorry) I’d also love to buy some of your frizzle eggs and I do not have any ayam cimanay yet either. Down the road, I may do ducks or peacocks and may purchase those too. It’s a good way to increase your income for certain breeds. I am about to get some Swedish Flower Hen eggs. I’d had a rooster, but, he recently passed due to unknown circumstances. None of my chickens have mites or worms etc. None are sick and they eat better than I do. Anyway, I think a breeding pen would be great. I hope whatever you decide to make you’ll share how you make them, so, if any of us would like to, we can follow your plans. Thank you for videoing. I really enjoy watching your videos and your family and animals are wonderful.
Yes definitely making breeding pens just made two for my chickens they’re great if you wanna split up chickens or just keep a certain breed in there to hatch purebred chickens I have my call ducks and a flock of roosters in mine
I know you lost Huck and Fin (R.I.P.) because they got hit by cars. If you want a suggestion, maybe you can get an invisible fence? You put wiring around your property and they wear a collar, and if they get too close to the wiring their collar will shock them. It’s not a back shock at all, and once they do it they kind of learn not to do it again. (Also I thought it was better than potentially getting hit by a car you know?)
It’s a good thought but cats are way different then dogs definitely not a good idea for a cat. It would be very difficult to train a cat to to respect a invisible fence and not just get traumatized by the shock.
@@ruthieharrison2609 (stupidly) I’ve actually had a shock collar on my wrist before, it really not that bad. It’s even at a high power, it’s more a vibration than a shock. And, if they get traumatized, (even though I highly doubt it,) it’s better than getting hit by a car and dying right? Just some food for thought
Outdoor cats can be strangled by collars when in trees and bushes, I would only get one that snaps off under pressure so they can't hang themselves. Maybe stick something on it like those alarms for lost keys with a remote so you can find the collars if they snap off
I’d suggest (if you try this option) going for the radio fence instead of the wire you have to bury… the wired one only activates when they get close to the wire whereas the radio one only activates if they stop getting signal and yes the collars will automatically turn off after a while (30 seconds I think) so the animal isn’t continuously shocked. My dog is incredibly stupid even for a Labradork it took nearly 3 years to teach her “sit” and “stay” (although “come” was never an issue) but following the steps, she trained to stay in the yard even without the collar in less than a year. Cat are way smarter than my adorkable pup.

I mentioned on a previous video that a friend of mine that I get my peafowl eggs from says the peachicks will stay a lot healthier if u keep them off the ground for the first year of their life. She has been raising them for 25 years so she knows a thing or 2 about raising them. And it has def worked for me. Haven’t lost one yet “knock on wood” lol
Hey ya'll, I figured anyone here probably likes chickens so I figured I'd put it out that my friend has some silkie roosters that she can't keep. They are very nice boys and if you are looking to breed your hens I'm sure they'd be happy to help. There's no problems with them as far as health or temperament (they've never attacked anyone in their lives) but she has five roosters and her parents don't want that many, which is understandable as it isn't a ginormous flock by any means. She has two weeks to find them a new home or...yeah. There is one rooster (we call him Elvis) he is a one-and-a-half year old silkie and is a black-gray color. Very nice bird. The other two we nicknamed Henry and Speedy, they are cockerels (aka male chickens under one year old) hatched this spring. They are both a solid black color and Henry has some gold on his neck. Again very friendly. You could get just one if that's all you can take, or two or all three but no pressure. She told me she was hoping for around 10-15 $ a bird, but the price is negotiable. If you are interested or know someone who might want them, totally let me know! Reply to this comment and we can discuss it further. I have some pics of the birds if you would want to see those. We live near Chaska MN. Anyways bless you if you took the time to read this entire thing, sorry I tend to go on and on. :)

About the flies around the cow area. You need to rotate the cows and put about 10-20 chickens and feed them on the cow Pattie’s 3 days in an area after so the fly larvae has time to show up. It reduces the flies and helps spread the manure.

I’ve always had this chicken set up I’d like to try. Imagine a large cross with the hen house in the center. Each arm of the cross is a long yard that you alternate letting the chickens out into. The hen house has four doors on it and when you want to change yards, you just open the next door. I’ll never live in the country or have chickens but did take FFA classes in high school and always wanted them. ❤️

Peacock chicks are very sensitive to moisture, drafts and other external influences. It is best to keep them indoors for more than 4 months to six months if you have that option. Good luck ! Greets from the Netherlands. 🙂
Have you ever considered raising Beltsville small whites for you turkey operation? They are an extremely rare breed in desperate need of conservation. They aren't any more difficult to hatch out or raise than any other breed, and don't need a turkey saddle in order to successfully breed. They are considerably smaller than most modern turkey breeds, and were mainly developed at a time when the demand for small turkeys in big cities was high. I've always wondered why they stopped raising them commercially. I think there would be a demand for them for young couples just getting started, or for people who have small families. The meat is also more juicy since you don't have to spend forever roasting it. I had one which I hatched out specifically to be a pet, and it was the sweetest turkey you could imagine. He just loved being around people, and made a wonderful pet. He had a whole different demeanour compared to our other turkeys. He was a dear little friend to have, and was great around kids.

Movable shelter are really good for you as well as your animals, even your pigs. Tĥey do your mowing and take care of the weeds.
we always made a small tractor and put the roosters in there and fatten them up and put them in the freezer.. usually before they were big enough to fully crow.. your farm is awesome
Yeah I think a breeding village will be a great idea! Have a huge fence surrounding the structures and have a sign about the entrance saying "Welcome to (insert name)".

If you are having trouble with flies for the cattle, Goldshaw Farm has a pretty great way on limiting to very little to no flies with their fly traps, so they might be able to help or give tips. I hope the white pea chick survives and you can find them a mate or get your hands on some more that aren’t sick with whatever it could be. Poor things didn’t deserve it. Also l noticed the semi opaque tarps of the push and pull coops is nearly gone, I know you have a lot of stuff going on the farm right now and may or may not of noticed or you’ve made a mental note and just gotten too busy but it also looked abit loose too so before another freezing thunderstorm happens, l’d hate for any more farm aviary babies like the turkeys happen to them all 💚 Also your fruit trees look divine and taste amazing too . Also the stray kitten, have you given it a vet check up so it doesn’t pass any unwanted viruses or health problems to the other kittens yet? It’s a very pretty little thing, it’s markings kinda remind me of some sort of modern paint piece 😂 Blanc (means white) would be a fun suggestion!

About the flies.
Take a plastic bin and wrap it in the yellow sticky paper fly-trap thingie. Seen other people with farms do it it works well
I don't know if you know him, but a Vermont farmer named Morgan from Goldshaw farms uses fly traps wrapped around plastic bins. Helps a lot! You could also try that plus some bait that flies love to consume to catch more.

It sounds like you would like a breeding area for the birds. For sure it would be good to have a place you can separate birds you want to breed and also a nursery area for the babies to get big.
One of the things that I've heard helps with fly's is to take the biggest rolls of fly paper that you can find and wrap them around trash cans and just leave them in the field. I'm not sure how well it works but from what a few people have told me, the most important thing is that the flies have a lot of surface space to potentially land on or fly into. I hope that this can help your cows.

PLEASE keep your peachicks in a brooder until 4 months, 2 months out of the brooder are extremely susceptible to sickness from other chickens and even humans, it is recommended by breeders of peacocks to keep them in brooders till 4 months.
You need to plant shade trees for them. Plant fruit bearing trees and get double duty for you. Cherry trees, peach trees, several varieties of apples 🍎 trees, pear, plum and nectarines. Fruit and shade, a win win for you and the fowl.

A breeding village. You could use pea gravel on the ground to help keep the mud down.
All my different breeds of chicken had their own house and run, once they had fun eating all the grass away I then heavily woodchip the runs and they love that as well plus no mud in the winter with woodchip. In the UK we have to pay lots for woodchip that's the only pain!

Can try using a flytrap paper around to a bucket maybe like close by the feeders and at the entrance of the barn (any places where the cows hang the most)

I think a mini mobile coop would be better so that you could keep them as a separate flock and then see in a year or 2 about do some hybrids

What you need to do is you need to put you need to put the cage on the bottom so there's no holes and you need to put a board on tops and put little steps that I can stand on it and they were and they would dig in the door is that make water holes in their nest and lay eggs

Breeding village, because you can name it and create a little soap opera with the birds, you know there names so each week you could create a story with a different chicken... And we can watch there story intertwine and create some depth to the story. When one dies it will be heart wrenching

It would be great if you guys could do a video focused specifically on your use of solar, your farm uses it quite a bit. I bet you could educate other homesteaders that might not know and pick up a sponsorship. I would be fascinated to hear how much it would have cost to set up your power without the solar and what your long term saving comes to be.
