    I have a pair of mountain extremes that my employer bought for me. 3 years later they are still going strong! I don’t wear them every day, only when we are doing the job they were bought for, which is definitely a hard use. Great boots.

    I have always hunted and lived in warmer climates and so i never gave boots much consideration. Running shoes always serviced my needs. Now I live in the Alaska interior and most of my hunts have been well below freezing, wet, windy and rocky. I need some boots. I am enjoying this short series as I try to determine what way to go

    Wished me and my hunting partners knew this on our 2017 Oct NM archery Ibex hunt! Our feet were tore up we carried up the mountain two sets of socks daily but know liners all our feet were blistered up, lost toe nails as well!
    Thanks guys

    Can you just wear two liner socks if it's too tight?

  • @m444ss
    @m444ss ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume the heavier weight socks - which might make your feet hot if your hiking and stalking most of the time - are a better choice for those who hunt (or camp) in cold weather when most of the time sill be static (and cold).

  • @20cameron1
    @20cameron1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you still wearing those same boots? Taking a hard serious look at getting either the hiker or Mountain Extreme. Terrain in SC mountains is rocky but muddy as well. Going up inclines with pine needles on rock is an absolute nightmare. I need boots that really dig into the ground. My feet are flat and wide. Sprained my ankles a lot growing up and I have to have good ankle support.

    I have a question you suggest a liner sock underneath the wool sock, should the liner socks be 100% merino wool or synthetic because I thought that wool wicks away sweat better than synthetic? Thanks

    • @MonasheeStickbows
      @MonasheeStickbows 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Synthetic drys alot faster and seeing the liner will get wet from sweat vapors first you want a synthetic liner for this reason! On the other hand a Merino liner will add extra Insulation to your system but takes forever to dry out!! Hope that helps ya

    Randy i have the same problem , im 11.5 and 12, and i have hammer toes , "humping m249 saw in the military" i called kenetrek they said they could do a vertical stretch, i have the mountain guides , very stiff... would the mountain extreme be more flexiable for my hammer toes.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Mountain Extremes are more flexible. The Mountain Guide is one tough boot, which is why sheep hunters love it's iron-like rigidity. Having surgery to reattached a tibal tendon on the arch of my foot, I need a boot with more forgiveness than the Mountain Guide, which is why I am such a huge fan of the Mountain Extreme. Good luck.

    hi Randy. Love the Boots videos but curious on inside boot care - after long stinky trips - how do you clean it inside and control odor bacteria...Thank you

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For some reason, I don't have the problem. I dry my boots with great care. Maybe that is why I am lucky.

    Randy what is the back pack that you use? I like how it holds your rifle under your arm pit.

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pack is a Mystery Ranch Metcalf. The gun holder is separate from the pack.

    Going too buy this week but not sure for uninsulated of insulated. Hunt northern .ca but putting in for elk /deer in whitehal Montana and deer in Idaho by Boise

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would look at non-insulated, or if you have a tendency for colder feet/hands, go with the 400 gram insulated.

    • @mikecarlson6083
      @mikecarlson6083 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Randy Newberg, Hunter . Have you ever worn the insulated in warmer weather is it just crazy hot? I went to Sportsman's today to buy the kenetrek Sox and they had every size except for mine. Thanks for all the great videos and helpful information. I'm shooting a Ruger 308 because of watching your videos for hunting elk and deer. Coyote gets in my way that'll be at my coyote Gun 2

    Hey Randy, thx for the video. I've been looking to buy those boot but Ilive in south France. Beside internet, do know where can i find it ?
    Also, what's the difference between extreme 400 and extreme 1000 ?

    • @MonasheeStickbows
      @MonasheeStickbows 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The insulation in the boot! 400g vs 1000g if your going to be stationary in colder temps the 1000s are nice to have! If your a active hunter just stick with the 400g so your feet don't sweat up and cause socks to get wet and freeze you out

    • @equitrek3028
      @equitrek3028 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MonasheeStickbows Thx for the feedback. Well the 400 will be better then. But I searched a lot here in France where can I try the boot in order to get the right fit, but there no distributors. That sucks. I live in Cannes south of France ( Alpes ). If you have any idea about that I'll be happy to here from you. Thx again!

    • @MonasheeStickbows
      @MonasheeStickbows 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not 100% sure on any dealers put your way!! I always run non insulated boots and run a Merino blend sock liner with a heavy weight merino wool sock in the colder temps and never have a problem but I'm always on the go!! If you cannot find Kenetrek and you want a stiff soled boot that will hold up for years to come have a look at the Garmont Tower Trek GTX or Garmont Pinnacle GTX which is stiffer yet, as I know you will be able to find them where your at and try them on before purchasing!! With mountaineering style boots you will want to run them 1/2-1size big for circulation and layering if needed!! hope that helps ya!!

    Just got a pair of Kenetrek boots couple weeks back for our Colorado hunt in late October. Do you have any recommendations for breaking them in?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Walk around in them for a couple days, maybe even with a bit of weight on your back, and you should be set. Have a good sock system and you should be set.

    Have a pair of these for linework, honestly they are very comfortable. As far as a sock liner goes, I only wear normal short socks cause it's so freaking hot down in Florida. The shank has been great for climbing and comfortable for moving on my feet all day. Only complaint I have is that the front of the boot makes it look like a damn clown shoe, one of the dumbest looking boots I've ever worn, if they weren't so freaking comfortable I would've stop wearing them long ago.

  • @cwilson80
    @cwilson80 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy, Do you always use a two sock system during warm early season archery hunts? I have had good luck using only the Kenetrek liner socks with my Kenetrek boots for warm weather hunts. Thanks for all the great videos!

    Does your boot size change with wearing 2 pairs of socks ? Also what oil do you recommend for leather boots & odor control for hunting,,,

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boot size doesn't change. I use Beeswax products to treat leather. I ignore odor control and rely on managing my activities relative to wind direction.

    Of course the marketing guy recommends the two sock method…. That’s like what 20 bucks per foot? Lol … jk. Nothing new, we used to wear silk socks next to the skin with wool over them. No friction enough padding. I always got that stuff at an old surplus place, I think I paid $40 for 3 dozen of both the silk and wools.

    I just found out they will only fix a boot treated with kenetrek brand wax no others allowed . Thanks Sportsman warehouse for not selling kenetrek boot wax nor do they tell you that. 100% bs They also have boot sales with free gators and then hide the good camo gators in the back. Luv my boots. I laugh at this guy talking about having feet that never get cold. Try being Alaskan frostbite your feet 1 time and your feet will be cold for the rest of your life. Thats why the thicker sox have the Alaska name :0 P.s i have whites boots cost me 500$ can't wear them they bend my feet so bad ruined a fly out hunt the bs salesman used the fancy foot measuring tool and said i dont need extra wide boots. He was so wrong. i was so mad i chucked them in storage. That was over 5 years ago. I'm still so mad about it i feel if i tried to return them i would see that man and stick the boots right up...............:(
