Boy, having tried other boots and settled on Kennetreks, I wonder why anyone would wear anything else. I got the non-insulated high tops (Mountain Extreme) for archery elk, thinking they wouldn't be too hot or heavy. True enough, but they are also great for the colder seasons, as I found out during winter coyote hunting. My feet stay dry and warm and I cannot say enough about the support and grip they give on steep, slippery slopes. Best investment in hunting gear I have ever made, hands down. Out of the box I wore them on a quick fly fishing getaway on a Hermosa Creek. I ended up wading most of the time and these boots were completely waterproof for 6 hours. I keep them slathered up with the treatment they include in the purchase and in 6 years have never had a problem. They worked from day 1 and are still as good as ever. Some things are worth the extra expense.
Hey Randy, in regards to your boots in this video, did you ever have to get your boots resoled through their life? I understand that the outsole does wear down eventually and the upper is still going strong but about how long or how many miles were you able to get out of each outsole before having Kenetrek give them a fresh sole and liner. Specifically, the mountain extremes but if you have enough experience with the guides that would be a nice comparison. Thank you

The only decent boots I've owned was the rocky timberwolf gore-tex boots for 50 dollars and after a year or so both heels came apart and even when new my feet would get wet. I'm looking for a 8-10 inch boot with a wide fit, excellent waterproofing,and some insulation. I don't mind spending 300-450 dollars... can you give me a recommendation. The big problem i have is there's no local place for to try boots on so I'm ordering online.......THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME..... HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Crispi guide gtx 200g insulation or kenetrek mountain extreme 400g insulation would both be great choices. They are also both offered in wide sizes. Most people say that they were the same size in crispis and running shoes. I can't speak much on the kenetreks but I'm probably going to try a pair soon.
I liked my kenetreks but the cordura sections on the tounge and in the back at the heel on mine wore out long before the rest of the boot.They should be all leather like the boots i now buy .But i miss how kenetreks wore and fit.
Pro tip, any type of treatment will add scent to your boots. I’m a beekeeper and a trapper. I never use beeswax on my traps because of the scent. If you’re just into waterproofing boots and not worried about scent, beeswax is the only way to go
every pair of kenetrek boots I've bought come with a small sample size of boot wax, is enough for a couple of treatments....but I must say, none of the other expensive boot manufacturers that I have bought boots from do that! I was impressed when I bought my kenetreks
60 years ago I was a shoe shine boy in a barber shop. Didn’t have rubber gloves. And I still to this day just use my bare hand to work it into the leather.
Just bought my first pair Mountain guide! Waxed right away! Been wearing daily before my NM Dec Barbary Sheep hunt How about cleaning them when I get back from hunting? Soapy water and brush?
I wear them around the house, yard, town, office for a few days, possibly walking around with a bit of weight on my back, and a few uphill/downhill spots.
Yes definitely break in before any kind of trip. just got my mountain extremes had no idea the leather was this soft, insole is phenomenal also, shouldn’t be any issue, had a pair of Lowa Tibet’s that shredded my heels no matter what I did. Break in fosho

Hi! I’m looking for advice in how to properly clean a new pair of Kenetrks. My husband has had them for 3 short weeks and got degreaser spilled on them. The leather now has a different tone to them (much darker, they almost look wet) and can see the spill marks. Please advise!!

I shot a buck on November 3rd, walked up to him and his horns fell off as I lifted his head. You will see some bucks already shed at that point. Good luck.

mtnhntr Always make sure your boots are dry. If not then you are going to trap the moisture under the leather. This situation is even worse if you have a Goretex membrane.

The membrane under the leather is the extent of the boots ability to keep water out. This is to keep the snow, water and mud from penetrating the leather and causing deterioration of that itself. So it makes it less likely for the water to even reach the goretex membrane. If he’s in it for the looks maybe he’d like a set of UnderArmor hunting boots.
Is this ANY DIFFERENT FROM SNO SEAL? BECAUSE I HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH SNO SEAL BEES WAX FORMULA... WHAT I FIND FUNNY AND IRONIC, IS THAT HONEY IS NATURALLY ANTIBACTERIAL. BUT BEES WAX STILL ALLOWED MOLD ON ALL MY HUNTING AND WORK BOOTS... LOL... IDK WHY? Used this on all my hoots and the condensation in our mud room from our sweating water softener created mold on every single pair of boots I own . I cleaned them and the mold covered them again and again. The only SHOES that did not get moldy were the ones WITOUT SNO SEAL.I'm now buying neoprene tank covers for my softener system. They should have a warning label that reads... this is not HONEY, IT BEES WAX... IT REPELS MOISTURE, HOWEVER,,, BUT STILL HAS POTENTIAL THAT COULD ALLOW MOLD TO FORM ON ITEMS IF STORED IN POOR VENTILATED ROOM.... BUT IF APPLIED IN LIBERAL MANNER, AT LEAST THE MOLD CAN'T PENATRATE THE BEES WAX...LOL... EVEN THE LEATHER GLOVES AND BELTS I APPLIED THIS ON HAD MOLD TOO! I JUST CAN'T WIN AFTER ALL THE TIME I PUT INTO TRYING TO GOOD CARE OF MY INVESTMENTS ...UNREAL....

For 500 dollars a pair, you would think they would include the boot wax
every pair of kenetrek boots I've bought come with a small sample size of boot wax, is enough for a couple of treatments....but I must say, none of the other expensive boot manufacturers that I have bought boots from do that! I was impressed when I bought my kenetreks

how do you dress when you leave to go hunting vs when you get to your spot to walk in. from head to toe.
We've covered that on many videos. It depends on time of year and conditions, along with the activity level.

If your boots soak up water in the leather, I think that will make the insulation feel less effective as heat will be "soaked" up by the water.

Probably 15-20, depending upon the regularity of treatment.

Leather requires treatment for water resistance. The light color will not perform as well as a treated boot.
