The Fact that we make the most amount of money from Diamonds whilst not being the top producer of diamonds tells you enough, countries like Russia have their own everything and process their own diamonds and still don't get a return in their economy like we do. Companies like De Beers have done a lot for the country, education, conservation and much more. How many jobs they have opened up in the country.

There’s nothing like a beautiful diamond. It’s true though, that lab grown diamonds are becoming very popular and abundant. They are grown from a diamond seed, in a lab that recreates the way diamond in the earth is formed. They are indistinguishable from a diamond from the ground for a fraction of the price. They are conflict free too.
This new found gem will bring millions, and probably end up in several magnificent stones.

Did you you know that the government of Botswana through their stake in Debeers own the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada. Gahcho Kué, the world’s largest new diamond mine, opened on September 20, 2016. It is a fly-in/fly-out remote mine site on the Canadian tundra just south of the Arctic Circle, about 280 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories.
Did you know that all diamonds extracted from this mine are exported Botswana for processing and sale?
More fun facts. Did you know through the same arrangement Botswana owned the snap snake Diamond mine in Canada. Snap Lake, De Beers Group’s first mine outside Africa, is located 220 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, capital of the Northwest Territories. Canada’s first completely underground mine, it was placed on extended care and maintenance in December 2015.
How about Victor mine? Victor was a remote fly-in/fly-out open-pit mine that was in operation between 2008 and 2019. It was Ontario’s first and only diamond mine and the second in Canada for De Beers Group, after Snap Lake. The site is located in the James Bay Lowlands of northeastern Ontario, about 90 kilometres west of the coastal community of Attawapiskat First Nation. The mine officially opened on July 26, 2008 and production ceased at the end of May 2019. Victor officially entered closure in July 2019. Botswana owned that as well and all output was sent to Botswana.

Absolutely the locals should get their fair share. Botswana should ask the Royal family to give back the diamond just like India should demands its jewels back from the Royals. All stolen jewels should be given back to their respective countries.

Cullinan diamond was initially exhibited and put up for auction sale across Europe but no buyer wanted to have a large uncut stone which was unheard of. later after two years of its discovery it was purchased by the local Transvaal goverment and gifted to king Edward VII as a token of loyalty from the dutch community of south africa.

Instead of mining themselves they give it to some foreign company. Lost potential of Africa. They could have owned that diamond completely but now will get only 10% royalty 🤦.

    • @boitumelochombo3142
      @boitumelochombo3142 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

•Taxes applicable to mining in Botswana are royalties, corporate tax (22%) and withholding tax on dividends (7.5%).
•Royalties paid on gross market value @
      -10% for diamonds
-5% for precious metals (gold, platinum etc.)
      -3% for all others minerals
•Mining companies taxed using variable income tax rate (for all minerals except diamonds) using formula:
      Annual Tax Rate = 70-1500/x, where x = taxable income/gross income
-Minimum rate is the standard corporate rate of 22% of the profit
•Tax Regime for diamonds requires negotiations on issues covering technical, financial and commercial aspects of the project.
      •Immediate 100% write-off of capital.
      •Unlimited carry forward of losses.
This does not include proceeds from supplying the mine with Utilities(water,Electricity, sewage disposal, Telecommunication services) or taxes levied on companies that supply the mine with products and services the mine needs to operate. The mine has created thousands of Jobs in country throughout the value chain of their operations. The majority of these employees pay income tax to the government. Lucara also had to pay import tax to the tune of upto 30% of the value of the machinery and equipment they imported.

most of the diamond mining has actually gone on to benefit the people of Botswana.

Our children won't have anything left with the current leadership. Hey they are not my minerals why should I get worked over someone else problem.

Hi
