Hi there PJ, this is the very first video i found of your work on TH-cam. I must say thank you very much. your video has been extremely helpful for me indeed. the level of work and detail that has gone into this video has been extremely clear and helpful. the pop up prompts makes it so clear for beginners like myself to see that u are working with solid or curve tools, i cant thank you enough! thank you so so so much! your level of work and clear explanations. WOW....!!! thank you!
Hi George, Welcome to my channel. It is great to have you here. Check out the rest of the videos. I am sure you will find a lot of useful tips and tricks. and stay tuned for more every week.
Hi pj yesterday i sow nice internty movie looking ring like this movie but not soliter why i cant find the movie from yesterday tanks you are so profsional🙏🙏👌
Hi PJ, your are truly kind of helping people, really appreciate your great effort on making this tutorials. Many of us will benefit and that thanks a lot:) to you.
Hi PJ, I'm still working with Rhino5-sr9 (2014). When I do boolean union of prongs for the central stone, it doesn't work. Could you explain me if depends on my Rhino version? If yes, can I trim and join the prongs with another method? Thank you
Just solved 😊 I've created 1 prong and splitted from sup view with two diagonal crossed lines (30deg from vertical) then polar arrayed and now boolean union is ok!
Hi Pheng. it depends on what type of surface(s) you plan to get. Sometimes they came out similar. but if you read the isocurve from the surfaces, you can tell what commands were used. There is no "better" one. The goal is to make the surface simple in order to have better mesh and better print. Loft surface is done by the curves in order. and Sweep 1 has the rail with cross-session profile. They have different direction on surfaces. In the case of making ring band, sweep1 will be"better", or you may need to make too many profiles for loft.
Would you please make a video on how to make a signet ring ??? I would be grateful if u make a video on that...And please mention me if u make a video on it...Thanks
They both are Rhino plug-in that is why you can use all the rhino commands in both programs. However, both software is similar but each has unique command and interface, and the renderings are different.
great tutorial as always. I am modeling this ring for practice and i noticed that yours says "closed solid polysurface " and mine says 'closed polysurface" is this just different versions of Rhino (i am using 5) or have i done something wrong? I am also getting a boolean fail when i try to join my 6 prongs? Thanks in advance for any help.
interesting. I did a test comparing Rhino 5 and 6. and it is because Rhino 6 wording differently. If your boolean is not working. it may be because the seams is over lapping. try to more one of the prong up or down 0.01 and see if you can boolean.
Hello PJ, i have a question, when you drag an object it responds very smooth and organic, here its very choppy and jumps spaces when i do... some configuration on rhino?
There are few things it may affect the smoothness on the viewport. 1. Go to Options-Document Properties-Mesh. make sure your setting is jagged and faster 2. Go to Options-Render. make sure the resolution and quality is in draft quality. I like to use Ghosted when model. if it get slow, I will use wireframe mode. If every above is set right. then do you have many software opened in your computer? does your ram is enough? or sometimes restart your computer will help. let me know if those tips work.
@@PJChenJewelryDesign sorry for tooking so long, actually it was just snap spacing that was set to 1mm, put it on 0.1mm and it works! Thank you so much for the attention, im learning so much with your videos Best regards
Every once in a while i have trouble regarding when using Boolean union on the prongs. It gives me exclamation points on the bottom of the head. Why is that happening?
Wow I figured it out. Okay, so when you don't adjust the points on the sweep, it messes up the filletedge. It created an open polysurface and that is why it wouldn't union. After going back and adjusting the points on the sweep, everything worked much better. Thanks for the lessons! I've learned a lot
Actually I still had a weird issue. Boolean union didn't work at first, until I move one prong .01mm. Then I tried again and it worked. No idea what caused that
I finally figured that out... There was a little hole at the bottom, so I created a small solid then I made a boolean union two by two (prongs) following a diagonal scheme... and it worked
If you download the stone model from somewhere else. Most of the time, they are mesh, not polysurface. You will need to use MeshToNRUBS command to turn them into polysurface first. then you can boolean them.
@@PJChenJewelryDesign ooh God! I found out I had a mistake in the prong's surface settings... Thank you for the answer!! And thanks for all video you made!

Nice work sar matrix 9 video gevme post
I use Rhino 3D for all the demonstration
What size would you make the shared prongs for a .015 carat diamond (1.5mm)? It'll be 5 diamonds with 10 prongs, 8 shard and 1 each at the end.
the prong size is depends on the look. however, you don't want to cut more than 20% of thickness and no smaller than 0.4mm in diameter.
👍👍👍👍👍💘
Thanks

hello i need micro prong setting video plz tell me about micro prong in rhinno how to make this setting
Hi Sagar, I will publish an on-demand course in December on my website www.pjchendesign.com, and that will include all type of stone setting.
Is there any software that convert a picture into a design suitable for 3D printer?
there are some 3D scanning can scanning 3D object for 3D printing. But I do not know if there is a software can convert 2D into 3D automatically.
