all those commenting , you have never lived in a country where parts are not available and if they are you cant afford them, and yes, these things workf fine for what they are intended and used ! these videos are the real thing and not for clicks on youtube, this is how things are repaired in these countries and they just work fine,
Having indicated parts in in a 4-jaw, I’m guessing they get within a few thousandsth, or perhaps a tenth of a millimeter with that wire-and-eye arrangement. (I’ve used half-thousands dial indicators, and usually get well under one division total indicated runout. Note I’m currently doing this at home, though I have done it at school and in a job setting in years past.) These people weld better than I do.
I don't know what caused this camshaft to break but the motor it came out of had a lot more damage than just broken camshaft I sure would have loved it if they showed that motor being torn down IF it is straight and IF it is still long enough it will work long enough to be cost effective these types of repairs by themselves can work but here's the problem there going to put it in a truck that already has 1 welded frame 2 welded drives haft 3 welded rear axel 4 welded axel shaft 5 chipped gears repaired with welds 6 rims that have bin repaired with welds 7 front suspension with EVERYTHING welded back together 8 welded leaf springs 9 cracked engine block welded 10 welded crankshaft Just to name few now add to that tires with softball size holes that have bin repaired a repaired steering box rebuild alternater and starter and rebuild radiator and refurbished battery and on and on ........!!!! NOW IMAGINE Shifting to low gear on a 10% downgrade
Idk how but these things work I've seen these overloaded trucks with welded cranks do 1000s of kilometers on hilly mountainous terrain without any problem at all

The reason these repairs seem to work so well is that for the most part the trucks operate at low speed and low RPM almost never exceeding 30 mph (50 kph) if these trucks were driven at 75 mph (120kph) on American highways it wouldn't be very long until the engines exploded or some other catastrophic failures occurred.
Knock the heat-treat out of a cam and the lobes just wear down real fast. This repair is just silly… enough that it makes me wonder if they make some of these weird repair videos in their spare time for clicks.
Exactly, they do it for clicks. (not every one though.) We all have been in the shop having a beer challenging each others skills. Betting each other if the part can or should be fixed. These guys figured out if you record it, and put it on TH-cam, you can get paid for it. Then they figured out if you do it wrong, or unorthodox, people shit the bed in the comments, helping to feed the all mighty algorithm. We all moan at reality TV for inducing fake drama to create views. These guys are doing the same thing. So kudos to them, they probably make more on one video, than they do all month. And to be fair, there is a shit-ton of information you can get in the comments.

Are there no dial indicators in that country ? Don't they see how crooked the camshaft is . Did anybody else cring when he tightened the chuck down on the can journal ? That weld is guaranteed to be weaker than the original cam that broke .
i have offered to send a few tools to help out on another similar channel. I got no reply. Its the mindset, If they dont mind throwing their machined parts on the ground, Do we really thing they are interested in stepping up their quality? I think in their world they are doing great.
Primitive fix. No micrometer. The shaft needs to be preheated. No protection for good cams. What about the alignment of the cams. Very primitive! I doubt the effort is worthy.
Camshafts and crankshafts should always be casted or forged in one piece for structural integrity, yes they can be wielded back together but it’s best to just get a new one all together

personally, it doesn't look to me like the adjoining lobes got anywhere near hot enough to affect them. And, they are quite possibly face hardened anyway.
@@alexanderSydneyOz i can tell by the color those lobes went that they did get hot enough to be annealed, it'll probably still last a long time before those lobes are wiped off though
The sheared cam ends did not look sheared. Looks like someone cut it in 2 and smacked the ends it a few times to make it look lumpy. Defo a click bait video...
Do you all think that was the first camshaft that shop has ever repaired? No doubt they have done lots and they lasted long enough. I do wonder how they get the timing close enough to run the engine. In the U.S. we would buy a new part or a short block, there is a ready supply of new parts. Moreover, no shop in the U.S. would ever weld a camshaft because EVERBODY knows that if (when) it failed, the customer would be up our a** for a new engine or we would be talking with the customer's lawyer.
Very nice fake. This you can install into camel transport. I see no guarantee in valves timing for all cylinders. The next part can be rotated some degrees. Simply very good repair.
and it will never work a welded cam shaft straightened with a piece of steel wire it won't be able to go in the holes with 0.02 + tolerance ..but they will probably get it in because they have a huge sledgehammer to beat it in why do you think ..this are sharpened to measure with 0.01mm tolerance and straightness of 0.025mm
Doesn't the Camshaft have to be Heat treated, after your done, The lobe next to the weld was red hot, soften the Metal, I can see it work, Because I know some one who fixed one.

Don't worry if there's any problem they will cut and weld the crankshaft to synchronise.

In the 60's major companies used old worn out cams, and build them up with weld ., and reground them , then sold them as hot rod high performance cams
