It’s quite jaw dropping to see them using analog set instead of green screen. Hats off to everyone who is part of this project. I’m a fan since I was a teen. 20 years later I’m still chasing every episode week after week, and with my partner. ☺️
This stood out to me so much, I never read a single page of the manga or watched any of the original anime. But the set pieces, and way the show is shot makes it feel massive and expansive, all while looking realistic and not on a stage. I absolutely love that about it and the bright and vibrant colors they use, so many shows have this dark/drab color palette, One Piece live action is bright and colorful (which I love).
As someone, just like millions of people who love the anime/manga, we were terrified about live shows, but God dammn I was not disappointed with this show at all. I hope season 2 gets bigger and bigger.
"This is how a live action remake is SUPPOSED to be done" I strongly disagree with this because there is no such thing as a formula when it comes to making an adaptation or remake and if anything Disney trying to have all of their remakes be so formulaic is what is getting them into so much trouble in the first place I love one piece, but I would hate it if these big studios tried to use it as some kind of blueprint going forward. Rather than saying that every adaptation or remake needs to be like one piece, disney should actually take the time to give each adaptation its own different approach depending on the source material because by the end the day just because it worked for one piece does not mean it will work for every other show or movie that comes out
I also really like how they expanded his role in the live-action series and we got to see more of Koby learning and growing as he serves under Garp's command.
I've considered watching One Piece for years but let the 1000+ episode count intimidate me out of it. The trailers for this adaptation got me hyped up and I finally cracked. My friend and I started watching the anime together. We finished season 1 of that and then checked out the live action. We thought it'd be fun to see how they compare. Now we're hooked and getting ready to start season 2.
Watch One Pace, this series is kinda good but it has nothing to do with the manga's mood and in the future seasons they will change the story radically
Because of the live action, I am now watching the anime. This series is incredible! I have never really cared for anime, but One Piece is changing that for me. I suddenly fell inlove and became an instant fan of Iñaki as Luffy! I love his energy, being goofy and a good friend and sincere with his pure heart. That's why Mr. Oda is grateful that Iñaki born to be just like Luffy Waiting for SEASON 2 ☺
OPLA was truly awesome!! The casting was the best part. All of the straw hats especially, the actors really brought those beloved characters to life. I hope if there's a season 2 it has more episodes though so it doesn't have to rush the story as much.
I really hope they will make it a possibility to visit the sets like for the Harry Potter sets and costumes. They did such an AMAZING job. Honestly, set designers and builders, make up artists, props and costume makers, they're the real MVPs

One Piece has been my favourite manga for 20 years so, when I heard a live action series was being made, and having seen other attempts at live action anime, I was mildly horrified I have to say. I am sooooo glad to have been wrong. I adore this adaptation and am thrilled it's bringing in new fans and delighting old fans. Congratulations to all involved.
I do not know the manga nor anime show, but after watching these behind the scenes and cast interviews I am convinced that they did not cast great actors, but they've found the real life counterparts. Usually in live actions remakes actors tend to over-act or they over edit, being cringe as fuck. But this felt all natural. As a newbie I could follow the story and not be confused and be emotionally invested in the characters. Good job!
it's great having a fan as show-runner, but that's been done with other adaptations. The best decision is to not only include Oda-sensei, but to respect his decision so he makes the final call. This is what made this show special and the only live action adaptation anywhere which I can call a fan off. Please keep this up Netflix - what you are creating is ground-breaking and teaching a lesson of all Hollywood types wanting to adopt manga IPs.

The only scene I was upset about being removed was the town's people wondering where Ussopp went the morning after he leaves. It was such a heartfelt and real thing, and it's the only thing I missed.
And imo the scene of Sanji watching both Zoro and Luffys fight with Mihawk. In the anime/manga, that "impossible odds" fight was what inspired him to join the Straw Hat crew in the first place.
It's so refreshing to see a live action adaptation that actually speaks to fan's and not attack them. So many franchises have been destroyed lately by terrible live action. As someone who barely watches anime and reads manga, I started watching this show, expecting it to be something casual and fun to watch before going to sleep. But the characters became so likable and the world so interesting with much more emotional elements to the story than I expected, that now, I can barely wait for the second season. As result, I've started watching the anime and so far I'm amazed by how much they've managed to translate into live action. Die-hard fans will probably disagree with my assessment, but as someone who is new to this world, the cast and the world-building seems pretty much perfect to me. I've seen many bad adaptations and when comparing the two, this one seems to capture the heart of the original.
Out of all the live-action anime adaptations out there, this one is one of the best. Too often these adaptations are made with little care or consideration for the source material and the feelings of the fanbase. One Piece definitely outshines all of them, everything from the cast and crew to the sets are fantastic and I can tell a lot of love went into it. I'm very excited for more and I'm definitely going to be watching the anime while I wait.
I was lucky enough to see the actual ships as the set was in Cape Town, just wish they would have allowed people to tour the set after filming was done, would have been awesome😅
This has the potential to be Netflix's Game of Thrown. Season one was solid, but if they get season 2 right again, then the sky's the limit for this show.

Now THIS is how you make a faithful live action adaptation of a manga/anime. You have fans that are professionals making it and you have contact with the creator of the manga for his input. After the whole Cowboy Bebop disaster, I admit, I was skeptical on how this would turn out, I was questioning how much Oda had in making this (Netflix promised Watanabe's input but that was very very little to nothing). So seeing that this adaptation was made right with Oda's help etc I want more! We NEED more! This was proof the Western World CAN do faithful adaptations of manga/anime and I want more! So I really hope they give us a second season.
While I had my doubts about this live action, I am so happy with how it turned out. Without watching this video, you can tell that the right actors were cast for the characters and that everyone involved with the project was dedicated to the original work and weren't doing this just for money but to bring this story to life and do it justice. Thank you also to all the fans who watched it and said it was amazing because if those comments hadn't shown up in my feeds, I definitely would not have been tempted to watch. I can't wait to see where season 2 takes us! ❤️

0:09 I just noticed the Straw Hats are the only ones on the show having the exact same jolly roger design from the manga. The other crews on the show have more realistic and scary versions of their original designs, while the Straw Hat crew is the exact same cartoony design. What a nice detail.

Working with the creator and staying true to the source material is a winning formula. If only Netflix had taken this approach with Cowboy Bebop and The Witcher given the quality of the lead actors in both series, what a shame.
Seeing the sets behind the scenes made me realize that I would loooove to be able to visit a whole OP theme park with a Baratie area and a Windmill Village and more, like how they built out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter…
What an absolute respect they put into this live action, as lifelong fan who collect all physical copies of the One Piece volumes since I was in grade school 15 years ago, I'm really really happy. My hope for future seasons are the increase of scenes of them on the ship, Going Merry, because that's, for me, an essential part of their journey.

After the whole Cowboy Bebop disaster, I admit, I was skeptical on how this would turn out, I was questioning how much Oda had in making this (Netflix promised Watanabe's input but that was very very little to nothing).
So seeing that this adaptation was made right with Oda's help etc I want more! We NEED more! This was proof the Western World CAN do faithful adaptations of manga/anime and I want more! So I really hope they give us a second season.
While I had my doubts about this live action, I am so happy with how it turned out. Without watching this video, you can tell that the right actors were cast for the characters and that everyone involved with the project was dedicated to the original work and weren't doing this just for money but to bring this story to life and do it justice. Thank you also to all the fans who watched it and said it was amazing because if those comments hadn't shown up in my feeds, I definitely would not have been tempted to watch. I can't wait to see where season 2 takes us! ❤️

0:09 I just noticed the Straw Hats are the only ones on the show having the exact same jolly roger design from the manga. The other crews on the show have more realistic and scary versions of their original designs, while the Straw Hat crew is the exact same cartoony design. What a nice detail.

Working with the creator and staying true to the source material is a winning formula. If only Netflix had taken this approach with Cowboy Bebop and The Witcher given the quality of the lead actors in both series, what a shame.

Seeing the sets behind the scenes made me realize that I would loooove to be able to visit a whole OP theme park with a Baratie area and a Windmill Village and more, like how they built out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter…
What an absolute respect they put into this live action, as lifelong fan who collect all physical copies of the One Piece volumes since I was in grade school 15 years ago, I'm really really happy. My hope for future seasons are the increase of scenes of them on the ship, Going Merry, because that's, for me, an essential part of their journey.
