I don't think she looks like her. The actress is clearly older, heavier, different body shape and wrong color hair. Not to mention her blue eyes look nothing like nami's brown eyes.

There really is no conceivable excuse. This is a review of the live-action production where they pronounce it correctly. You can't even say you're a manga-only reader with no friends and never heard another person pronounce his name.

It's a perfect adaptation BUT the biggest problem for Netflix One Piece is also how perfect it is. They need to make several seasons to not make this perfect casting goes to waste. This is a very rare occasion

Being casted to a role you auditioned because the very creator of the manga itself thinks you are just like the person that he drew must be one of the highest honors an actor can get.
I just really like how they casted roles based on their personalities, more than only their acting skills. when I see clips of the cast, they're still the exact same people as when they are on the set and I can just imagine their characters doing the same things.
to my opinion, they don't just play the Straw Hat crew, they ARE the Straw Hat crew.

so that's what i was picking up on, i love their dynamics! having only seen a single episode of the anime and giving up am surprised, it's actually not that bad

Not only that, but I feel like the supporting cast was near perfect as well. Aiden Scott as Helmeppo does a fantastic job at making you want to punch him xD. Jeff Ward as Buggy is just incredible and steals the show whenever he's on screen. Steven Ward is badass as Mihawk. And Craig Fairbrass looks exactly like a real life Zeff.

Except for ben beckmann😂 they did him dirty. The actor who played him was way out of shape with big beer belly. He’s suppose to be tall chiseled mascular dude not some guy you can play beer pong with 😂😂
this casting was absolutely PHENOMENAL.. when i say they lucked out with this, i mean it. the chemistry between these actors is just like the strawhats, and the individual actors share many major qualities with the characters theyre playing. all of these actors are very dedicated to their roles and it shows. i truly love these actors from the bottom of my heart and im SO glad the live action was a success. i really hope there will be a season 2, but even if there isnt, im more than happy with this. i cant even put into words how in love i am with the live action. this really did break the live action anime adaptation curse❤
I think the casting is the best thing they did in the series. Even secondary characters like Coby and Helmeppo were nailed!

i think what he meant is just like those actors that he mentioned, taz is doing his best to do his stunts on his own and learn stuff just to be as in character as he can. like what he said, he's dedicated.

I was initially skeptical of Emily but she 100% won me over. Did a fantastic job! Very cool to hear Taz had to do cooking training. can really see the passion from all the actors!
Taz being trained by Jamie Oliver made me burst into laughter... Maybe I've watched too much Uncler Roger vids 😄

Let us not forget all of the other amazing cast members. Especially many of the other characters like Buggy and Koby. Great cast choice and excellent acting. I had such low expectations going into this show only to be blown away at the care they took. It has some minor flaws but I really truly felt this was a worthy adaptation. Especially after trying to stomach other animes gone live action.
Also Helmeppo. I'm amazed how perfect that actor is in his role.
And Arlong! He is exactly how I imagine him to be, so scary and intimidating!
Koby was littlerly so good. The actor was awesome.

1. Emily didn't cut her hair short and dyed her hair in the audition tape. There's a video where the cast watches their audition tapes.

Anyone who says Zoro didn't have his third sword in his mouth "enough" needs to realize that for every few seconds we see him with it, the actor has been doing it for _hours._

one of the best things in the show is the cast. The chemistry is perfect and each is very charming in their own ways, just as the Strawhats.
I have so much respect for these actors/actress. Training for months and years to play the role they love is impressive. Their passion really comes through. Really liked the original anime and normally don’t care for live action remakes. However, they nailed it. Loved season 1 and looking forward to season 2.
Disney should learn from this casting 👀

@@KA-nw6iyLuffy is Brazilian, according to Oda. For like 10 yrs I thought everyone would just be Japanese lol but apparently he drew them with ethnicities in mind. Zoro obv Japanese, Sanji French, Nami Swede, Usopp African, Robin Russian, Franky American, Chopper Canadian, Brooke Austrian then idk why but Jinbei is Indian lol. I'm just annoyed that they made Luffy have an accent but the child actor doesn't have one 🥴
Coming from a person who has purchased manga chapter 1 of One Piece back in 2001, I really am joyful to see this live action being treated with love and care. The cast and the rest of the side cast and villains portrayed are all spectacularly done so darn well. What a time to be a One Piece fan☺️
There was just one thing that was incorrect in this video. Inaki's first audition tape's setting was the burning boat in the background as he sat on the little boat with Cody. He took that as a serious situation so his first audition tape was actually "too serious" and the creator of the anime said in response to the tape that Luffy was actually unfazed by the scene behind him and was supposed to be less serious. So he had Inaki do it again but more laid back and carefree this time. ^.^ hope this helps!
I love the length they all went through for their roles. It’s what makes the show amazing that true fans are in these roles

Hearing the names pronounced the wrong way is a nightmare for every true fan of One Piece.
I'm pretty sure with Iñaki's line reading, they thought that he *wasn't* carefree enough with the ship sinking in the background and had him redo it, but instead *not* reacting to the ship hardly at all, which was apparently a big part of what landed him the role.

I am so happy for this cast. All their hard work and discipline really showed through in how amazing the live action ended up being. It's also funny to a certain extent how their casting process is not only a reflection of their individual personalities, but also the characters they're portraying. Like, Mackenyu literally training his jaw to hold the sword, Emily persuading the fanbase, and Iñaki having to redo the tape because he was just too chill about a boat on fire literally screams Zoro, Nami, and Luffy 😂Not to mention all the training Taz and Jacob did.
It's like if you make all 3 of them into real life people and they were to try and land their own role acting as themselves and they all did it perfectly lol
Never ceases to amaze me that Eiichiro Oda could make this 26-year-long story while simultaneously making the Legend of Zelda series for even longer.

Wow that's pretty cool how deep into their characters they got before they even got the roles, Emily didn't need to learn navigating and jacob didn't need to learn slingshot, but the fact that they did i'm sure helped them feel the role more.

imagine all the hardwork that the actors put and yet some people doesn't appreciate this live action which a lot of people liked.
Many are nit pickers. Petty and picky af. They are already spoiled by an author who kept continuing the story for at least a decade and they have the audacity to hate everything even though the author himself is in charge of the casting and basically many parts of the adaptation. They’re mad 😂. They should be happy it didn’t turn out like the American adaptation of Death Note or the Avatar the Last Airbender movie. Those two did it more dirty to the fans completely with the casting, acting and the whole plot. This one actually had a team who cared enough about One Piece and spent a year or two on this. They have no idea how rare it is for the author of any original to actually take part in the adaptation and for Netflix to actually listen to their decisions. They all need to touch grass and get a job

Buggy probably didn’t have to audition. Because he had worked with the director in past projects. Like on Agents of Shield.
Some actors and directors have great relationships. Like how Cillian Murphy doesn’t have to audition for Chris Nolan films if Nolan ever has a role for Murphy.

Sanji is my favourite character, and Taz did justice to Sanji's character.He is the GOAT.The training he underwent in mastering different martial arts, and honing his cooking skills is enough to show how dedicated this guy was towards his role.

Seeing the preview, i wasn't immediately sold with the cast. I had something else in mind. But after watching the show, i realized it was by far the best casting for an anime live action. They did justice to the characters.

Not a cast member but featured on the soundtrack is my man Marcin Patrzalek. His flamenco composition and playing are heard in the end credits of Episode 5, indicative of Mihawk's fiery intensity. No one plays fiery intense guitar like Marcin does!! 🎉🎉❤❤❤
(So far I believe Marcin plays two different pieces in five episodes in Season 1.)

You actually got his summary of resending the tapes wrong. It was because he WASN’T relaxed and it had nothing to do with distractions around him. I appreciate the attempt to accumulate all this info to ride the hype for profit but stick to fandoms you’re familiar with (ones where you know how to pronounce the names of the main characters)

To those wondering, Mackenyu/Zoro was invited to the audition, but they were not informed that it was for One Piece and Mackenyu was In Budapest filming for a movie,so he declined at first. Then he was invited again. They did not want to disclose what the audition was for at first, then Mackenyu said he might consider if he would know what the audition was for,then the team decided to tell him it's for One Piece. He wanted to know further what character, then he was told it's for Zoro. Mackenyu said he did not hesitate and said, I'll do it! 😅 Oda specifically wanted a Japanese actor to play Zoro.Mackenyu fits the description, plus he speaks English fluently and has martial arts and Katana/sword skills.
