I remember this. I was 10 yrs old when it happened. Even the entire way across the country, it was on every headline and every news station. I distinctly remember seeing the headlines saying "Hate crime" and I had to ask my mom what that meant. When I looked at her to do so, she was crying and her eyes never left the TV. I realized then there was evil in the world I would never understand.
    RIP Mr. Byrd.

My Scotty, you told this story about James Byrd Jr so beautifully and with so much love and respect. It was so sad and the journey with you on the long road where James was dragged was so painful and heartbreaking. I was holding my breath all the way and was waiting for the drive to end as I wanted James’s pain to end. I still cannot fathom why some people are so ruthless and hurt innocents who have done nothing to them or anyone. I always say if one cannot say anything nice about someone don’t say anything at all. From the sadness in your eyes and in your voice I could tell you were thinking of James and was saddened by his loss. However you have honoured him with this tribute by visiting his grave and telling his story. May his Soul Rest In Peace. Thanks Scotty. Take care. Love from all of us.❤️✌🏼🤗💕

The malice, the hatred, the violence that it took for those men to do this is beyond anything I can comprehend. I have zero compassion for anyone who would do this. Scott, I just watched this video, and I lust admit that it was hard to watch this! Before I clicked on this video to watch it, I saw the picture of Mr James Byrd, and I instantly remembered this sad and senseless story from all of those years ago. I have always thought/ felt that if you don’t like something, just turn the other way. I believe with all my heart ❤️ and with every cell in my body that we are all equal in this world! At the end of the day, we all walk the same walk, and breathe all the same air. To me, it does not make a difference what your skin color is, sexual preference, etc. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is kindness towards one another! Life is so precious, fragile, and never gauranteed! I have always wanted there to be peace, respect, and tolerance for one another everywhere in this world, sadly that will never happen! Scott, I have never met you, but I can tell that you have a good heart ♥️ , and you are very compassionate about doing/ making these videos!😊. You are an inspiration to not only me, but to countless others in this world! I hope to meet you one day! Thank you for being you!❤️🙏♥️😊Take care of yourself! This type of violence against a fellow human being is nothing short of rage inducing, for me. I wonder if people will ever live in a world, free of bigotry, racism, & hate? It’s a nice thought, that someday that might be possible, but I have my doubts. This is great thing you have done. Making a video, making a pilgrimage of sorts to pay tribute to a man that had such unspeakable violence brought upon him by 3 hate filled low life’s. Humans never cease to amaze me.
My father taught us kids that no matter what your skin colour we all have the same coloured blood. Why can’t we humans just get along it would make the world a whole lot better.

It is a sad irony that in death James Byrds grave has to be imprisoned to avoid desecration,as if this poor soul did not endured enough disrespect in life due to his tragic demise at the hands of evil in its purest personification.

Hello Scott... Once again very nice job. And thank you very much for bringing us to this place. Of course I'll never forget when this was on the news but us Northerners were not surprised. The fact that his grave was desecrated says a lot about that town. I couldn't imagine the anger and frustration the family must have had when they saw the damage and vandalizing of his grave. I'm not surprised that there's trollers out there who believe your empathy is fake. Those are the self-centered self-absorbed mentally disabled fools that unfortunately marinate this country. Thanks again Scott and we'll see you later! R.I.P. Mr. Byrd.

I've read about this murder and I sort of can't shake it off. I immediately have to think about how scared Mr Byrd must have been during his last moments on Earth. Then I immediately have to think of his family, knowing that they too know how their husband/father/son died and how painful it must be for them to wake up with those thoughts every morning. And then I start imagining that it could ever happen to my girlfriend and I start crying. I honestly wouldn't be able to function if it ever happened to anyone I love. I mean, people get sick and they die but knowing tha tyour loved one was disrespected, tortured, mutilated and killed in such a brutal way is just beyond my comprehension. I am absolutely 100 % positivie that if this ever happened to anyone I love, I would commit suicide as my life would make no sense anymore. I would hate waking up with the realisation that this happened. On one hand this story gave me a boost to love and appreciate my family even more because I know they can be gone within seconds. On the other hand it chipped one more bit off my will to live on this planet. For this reason, I almost totally stopped watching crime shows, documentaries about war and concentration camps etc. I am just not able to deal with all the evil that happened/is happening. Does anyone have an advice for me how to cope with those feelings? Every time I hear such stories, something dies in me and makes my frail faith in humanity get even weaker. I don't want to know what is going to happen when the last bit of it chips off. I hope it's not any time soon but the longer I live, the bigger the pieces that chip off.
