    We bought our LT 40HD in 1991. It has built a lot of homes and barns over the years. Over a million BFT. Still original engine and running strong.

      Same here.....1991 model, original 18hp Briggs engine. I'm guessing close to million feet sawed, but I quit keeping up years ago.

    As an American of Swedish extraction I really enjoyed watching you Swedes cut wood in the homeland. My Swedish cousin still owns the farm my Great Grandfather was born on in January 1850. It is in Sterte, near Österfärnebo, south of Sandviken. He himself is a forester with Mellanskog. I just found your TH-cam Channel and will be watching your videos in the future.

    This seems much more genuine then the "watch a rich guy play with his toys" channel

    • @otm646
      @otm646 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      dan Gleeballs That guy's channel started out much more humble. With sponsorship in the mix and real money on the line it changes most channels for the worse. You see it in the gun community channels and even a popular young mans welding channel.

    • @Flexaret
      @Flexaret 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I watch the same channel and yes I've noticed a change and would have preferred it to stay the way it was but if he's a 'rich guy' he got that way through hard work (prior to TH-cam) and creativity.
      In all honesty if I was offered equipment on loan or free of charge, perhaps a Kinetic 8x8 mini forwarder or a Kelfri atv log trailer and a quad to go with it or any number of cool items that I couldn't afford to buy would I refuse? the honest answer is no I wouldn't and in saying that I can't fault anyone else from doing it. He probably gets the offer of lots of stuff that he doesn't accept and I still believe that if he gets something that turns out to be a poor product he'll definitely say so. If he can afford to indulge his interests on his homestead with the 'toys' he has fair play to him, I'd do the same if I could.
      With that said it's pushing credibility to the limit to class it as a 'homesteading' channel, but it's still informative and entertaining and vastly better than the stuff that gets shown on regular television channels. It is possible to watch and enjoy the other guy and Swedish homestead without needing to form up in opposing ranks in an internet based Mexican Stand off.

      I have been watching the same channel for a long time, yes it's changed and not for the better either.In my opinion there's a certain arrogance that has crept into his programmes commensurate with the increased popularity and funding of his channel and a cavalier attitude that if you don't like it then go.In other words "It's my way or the highway" I will still watch his channel, arrogance and all.

    • @bisonhappenstance
      @bisonhappenstance 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The arrogance is what has kept me away, too, plus an over dependency on doodads and seemingly little attention to sustainable forestry or farming.

He always said he wished he had bought a woodmizer, and I eventually did buy one, though he had died by then. As with you, I deeply appreciated what my dad could pass on to me. Hi guys...!
    Another great video, thanks for sharing with us.
    These types of informative videos help out people like me who are new to all of this and not certain what tools and equipment we should get...!
    I wish that my father would have had the foresight and dreams that your Dad did and still has...
    Purchasing a beautiful piece of land, the needed equipment, learning how to use all of it and to do everything that it takes to live a homesteading life style, and then teaching his son to develop a love for those ways and passing along all of his knowledge so that one day you'll be able to carry on in his footsteps and continue the tradition with your own children...!
    Your Dad Rocks...!
    Thanks again and be blessed...

    I have had the gasoline-engined version of this mill for 19 years now. It is a very nice machine. Looks as if your drive chain is about shot. It's hanging way too low. "That's what she said!"
    I would also like to point out that the Lucas mill versus the Wood-Mizer is sort of an apples/oranges comparison. Believe me, when I have a mammoth log to saw up and I have to split it with a chainsaw to get it on my mill I wish I had a Lucas mill then.
    Thanks for posting this vid.

I just thought I would drop you a comment as a hello and also I noticed that the fan belt on your woodmizer seemed very slack and I wouldn't want you having any downtime with it being a homestead I'm sure it's a simple fix with adjustment screws on the alternator pulley anyway I won't bore you any longer.

    First thing I noticed when you started that engine: That fan belt is way way too loose. Tighten it up correctly if you want it to live longer and work better.

    where did you guys get the sharping the blade tools from or did you make them yourselves? is there some kind of link to either the tools to buy them or a blue print on how to make them? thanks!!!

    Seems as if the Wood-Mizer is much easier to set up and operate. Would choose it above the Lucas

      We like it a lot. I don't have any experience with the Lucas and have only seen it on Wranglerstars videos. To me it seemed to have a couple advantages but also seemed more complicated to build up. I love how little sawdust you get with band sawmills.

      Comparing a Woodmizer LT40 to a Lucas mill is a bit pointless. They are both sawmills and that is where the similarities end. A diesel-powered hydraulic Woodmizer - like the one in this video - will produce lumber much faster under certain circumstances. However you will not be able to saw logs much larger than 36" (90cm) in diameter on a portable Woodmizer. The Lucas was designed to be a light, portable mill that can be set up over massive logs, up to 72" (200cm) in diameter. Without going into much technical detail let's just say they were designed to saw lumber from very different size raw material. And no... I do not have a Lucas mill. I own a diesel-powered Woodmizer LT40 and love it.

    Enjoy watching your videos. Friend has the same mill here in Texas and he mills Mesquite mostly. Do you have to change the blade a lot?

    • @simeonandalex
      @simeonandalex  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on what wood we are milling. Oak is harder than spruce. If the bark is dirty you have to change more often too... I don't have the exact stats though.

    Terrific video; keep up the great work! Would you happen to know the brand and where to procure the logger/saw pants that your dad is wearing in this video? They appear to have chainsaw protection on the front and lower legs and to be exceptionally functional. Thank you.

    Hi. Your father has a lot of experiance and I have one question for him (and you). I see, that you are sawing a lot of spruce. I am wondering how are you dealing with waves around the knots? As I see it, narrow blades have some problems around knots, regardles that sawmill is set up perfect, new rolers, new belts, new blades ...
    I saw 90% of spruce and with the new blades I notice a difference when blades goes over a knot and there is a wave which I see it. When I put the 1 meter aluminium water level meter, I am seeing about 1 mm or difference (usually there is 1 mm or 1.5 mm bump over knots) and if I go over those boards with hand, than I can fill the difference. I have the problem with that and it makes me very unhappy.
    Thank you for any replay

      dklancar hi..i am hoping you read this as i see you posted this over a month ago but i hope i can help... I am a sawmill service tech covering many bandsawmills but mainly wood-mizers. I truly love helping /trouble shooting band mill issues and have done so for many years here on Canada's west coast. the problem of the blade following the grain structure up and over knots is a strain issue which is extremely common keeping in mind you have a good sharp blade. The strain gauge is rarely accurate due to a number of reasons mainly when a blade breaks, the needle on the gauge shock loads and moves a few degrees giving you an incorrect reading when you tighten up your blade. simply increase your strain value you currently use by 500lbs and try cutting again. i test the strain gauge with a stretch gauge ( measures the actual stretch of the blade when tightening) to a specific value and for 90 % of most service calls, this is the biggest problem. alot of people think tighten the blade too much will harm the mill or blade but this isnt necessarily true. too little strain is harmful to the blade and causes many other cutting issues.. even on new mills i test with the stretch gauge i tighten up to the correct value and the gauge in the mill is almost at the 6 o'clock position. so increase straine by 500 lbs try cutting and this should help with this particular problem and dont be afraid to bump it up a bit more than that. Sorry for the long post but i try to explain things as best I can. Best of luck!

      It depends on how dirty the bark is, what type of wood we are milling, if it is frozen... A lot of factors. Don't ave any exact stats though.

    Must be the best too. Not just because I have one. But because it cuts the shit out of any hardwood at almost the same tempo as cutting softer woods like pine etc..
