I bought castle headers for my 454 from CAE, plus other items and had to flog them like I hatted them with a bar for days to get them to even get close, won't comment on the customer service from CAE, good to see I wasn't the only one that had to mod to get them to fit .
At trade school a dude rocked up every day in a stock standard cream painted EH holden it was mint very original looking untill he poped the bonnet one day , it had the old school 454 in it , you would have never known 😀 that was 30 years ago
What a sleeper! Great holden, awesome motor.youve done well. Would have left that gilmer back in the eighties in a street machine magazine. Nascar donks still run v belts just fine.cheers.
Great video. Keep up the good work . Blueprint Engines are great ! I installed one of their motors in my 1978 Pontiac Firebird last year, and I have no complaints at all. I highly recommend using them .
Coupla questions on the cooling fans [falcon??] .Radiator core how many tubes and tube width ?? First impression undercooled . But in Melbourne I`m aware of a 2 core crossflow camaro rad in a 406/640hp HQ . The rad surface area is bigger than stock .
Nice build dude Those brackets will break the bolts into the block after vibration gets to it unless you brace it back to one of the engine mount bolts Been there done that picking broken bolts many times
@alexmcphee7519 castle headers, they are honestly a bit overkill and the pacemaker 1 3/4 primary headers would be plenty and fit better. 2" primary is something you would have on something with boost or big nitrous.
What starter make model did u use for extractor clearance ?? Great idea on the sump,, part no ? I used an aeroflow SHP block [2pc RMS] with kick outs 6.5 ltrs
Nice work looks great but just wondering why the extra oil in the sump ? Also when you weld anything that is going to hold hot oil fill it with kero and see if it leaks it makes it easier to weld if leaks
Howdy , noticed you have some edelbrock Victor heads on mcfry ….. how do you find them ? Any problems - can’t find anything on TH-cam about them ! Tar and keep up the great content 🇦🇺👌
Awesome heads they are but they stopped selling them awhile back, they outflowed the afr 357 heads. Both heads have 2.350 intake valves fitted. The victor heads have been extensively ported
Hey man what kind of changes are you going to need to get this to pass engineering? I mean a 7.4L is way bigger than a 5L. Will brakes be ok to handle the extra mumbo?
Engineer wouldn't rego it as a 454, it would only go through as a 350chev easily with standard everything. It would need to pass an emissions test also which It would have to run e85 to pass. The factory brakes out perform the wilwoods on the track they are good brakes.
Hi , I have just fitted a new Blueprint 383 sb into my 80 HZ ute. Its pinging almost constantly at low load cruise driving. Can this be tuned out? I have tried backing off the timing a little and am running 100 octane but still pinging at low load. Any ideas, Thanks Dave NZ
Thats very strange, I would take it to a shop with a dyno and read the airfuel at cruise. But this engine here seems to not ping at all even when its lean the power just lays over and thats on 98 fuel. Pinging is usually something you only get with a high compression engine, unless your motor has alot of carbon build up on the pistons.
Yeah it is a bit, this motor is sorta strange it makes power when its lean and doesn't ping. It made 600hp like that so it didn't mind it, I did fatten it up after putting it in the car as I found it responded better
No there is an air gap and when driving would have enough airflow to stop any excessive oil heating. I will be fitting a smaller oil filter when I use us up these tall ones I have.
What is the obsession with oil capacity? Just change it regularly. If concerned run an oil cooler. Glad to see you use 'this stuff" on the sump gasket! Hammering dents in the headers might interupt flow-not the ideal solution.
The extra oil capacity is to future proof it thats all, for events, burnouts or any sustained rpm. Oil cooler doesn't help in that situation just capacity. Drifting also throws the oil around everehere, so having extra helps not starve it. The hammer on headers doesn't effect flow, theres a comparison video on TH-cam where they beat the crap out of headers and dyno the engine and it lost no power.
Mate deep low rumble V8s sounds good even when you get up it, hahaah they sound way better when people put them type of exhausts on their 4s or 6s cylinders even when they sound like cows when they go past ya home
I have to admit the 308 sound is unbeatable, It must be the flat tappet camshafts that make them sound real choppy. This sounds alot more tame then the 308 but when your on the loud pedal its just turning tyres 👌 perfect for a sleeper
That budget build blew right out of control. If I had the money I'd keep on spending and upgrading as well. Great work 👍👍👍

Was that Chris Beale? Sounds like my experience at the Bendigo tafe in the late 90s except it was under coat grey in colour

Yeah im not a big fan of the gilmer drive at all, I used it because it was cheap but its cheap and nasty.
Great video. Keep up the good work . Blueprint Engines are great ! I installed one of their motors in my 1978 Pontiac Firebird last year, and I have no complaints at all. I highly recommend using them .
I have this engine in my 1986 IROC Z28 and it's a beast on the streets!
Well done mate one of the most productive videos iv watched by anyone good to see some one get it done in one clip. Love it 👌
Very flexible budget on the budget build
Well it was budget build, now its built its screaming for some hp. I actually enjoy driving it now, turns the tyres in top gear 👌
@@MCFRYMotorsport Mchorsepower
Bro,that's a mad combo. I can't believe you told us how good it goes but didn't show us😢. But as always, great video.thanks
It will never beat a 468 big block! Torque master!
The big block would make the power for less but they are very heavy engines and are not great for handling.
Nice motor. I bought the same motor from blueprint haven’t got mine installed yet
McJesus you're always on a mission of some kind brother yew
I was reading the tailshaft sticker upside down and thought it said "nosend" we can't have that can we! 😅🤪
Coupla questions on the cooling fans [falcon??] .Radiator core how many tubes and tube width ??

Always love your uploads mate 😎
Thought this was a budget build 😂
Nothing is a budget build if your chasing horse power and beathing stuff up so it doesn't break🙏 😬
Hope you like the tailshaft! Fair chance I made that shaft I worked there until recently!
Ive got a gibsons shaft in this and in mcfry they have been awesome. Just qent a steel shaft in this and mcfry has a cromoly
Need to get this 454 soon. But all those upgrades needed to handle all that power.😊😊
You cannot leave well enough alone, and that's why we keep tuning in! Love your work. 👌
From past experience with that alternator set up if they’re mild steal your snap them need high tensile nice car
Forgot to put bolts
Nice build dude
Those brackets will break the bolts into the block after vibration gets to it unless you brace it back to one of the engine mount bolts
Been there done that picking broken bolts many times
I did end up bracing the alt bracket back to the engine mount and its fixed all the issues
Nice clean build I love it.
well that escalated quickly !
Leave the alternator up top a big puddle can short them out down low maybe not that big ford problem also with dizzy
Mate love the cars.
I have a HQ I just ordered the same setup as what you have. Where did you buy the headers from ?
@alexmcphee7519 castle headers, they are honestly a bit overkill and the pacemaker 1 3/4 primary headers would be plenty and fit better. 2" primary is something you would have on something with boost or big nitrous.
@MCFRYMotorsport Mate I appreciate the response. Judging by the videos mate she is hauling ass big time

I am planning on driving it very hard, drifting and stuff and wanted more oil in the pan

@MCFRYMotorsport ahh yeah fair enough man. Definitely a tough cruiser man. Be interesting to see the difference in mileage from the 308 to 454.
@aussiebevo103 there wouldn't be alot in it, it really depends on the airfuel at cruise. But this would use heaps more when I stomp on it

Any updates?
Love the vid , motor sounds solid. Who did ya buy the motor from? And how do i get the same specs? Thinking this will go sweet in my 68 Impala.
I bought it from outlaw speed shop.
Air filter 14 x3 ? Did u use a drop base ? if so how much drop thanks.
I have the 1 7/8 headers ,, good to see they fit on yours .
Yes it was a k&n 3" but not sure about how much drop
Are the blueprint motors good,as I want to buy a 632?
Love the video just bought the 400 version What is the alternator you are running thanks.,
It is a 120amp bosch replica alternator, I bought it as it works with the factory alternator light
Thanks mate
On the Dyno sheet……It shows your AIR/Fuel ratio in the 14:1 range. Isn’t that super lean for WOT.
Yeah it is a bit, this motor is sorta strange it makes power when its lean and doesn't ping. It made 600hp like that so it didn't mind it, I did fatten it up after putting it in the car as I found it responded better
@@MCFRYMotorsport Fair enough!!!
Stupid question what’s the diff with a 454 big block and 454 small block??
The engine block and heads are larger on the big blocks, usually 60kgs heavier.
man thats some money spent , good one , i love it
How much you gonna be asking for the old gearbox?
So you don’t get oil heat issues being so close to the exhaust ?
No there is an air gap and when driving would have enough airflow to stop any excessive oil heating. I will be fitting a smaller oil filter when I use us up these tall ones I have.
Bring back the 202!
Did the front subframe brace bars fit back on or do they hit the extractors?
They hit extractors, I am going to modify them to go around them.
@@MCFRYMotorsportI'm thinking I'll have to do the same with a big block.
@Marlin45-70 If you do custom headers you can build them around them, shelf headers always seem to hit.
What springs are you running in the front and rear ?
Just the low springs from memory
Love it McMan!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Wish that was my engine 👍

454 small block?
Yes sir, 4.250 bore sbc
That’s awesome
I expected the engine to make 600+, you're close, which is good...
awesome!
And heres me cant even afford to get my daily driver VN Commodore 5.0 motor rebuilt.

i send that blue print to literally get blue printed .. there all over the shop
4 fify 4 small block ..wow
Looks tidy mate
Dudes loaded.........
lol 😂so much for the budget it never works 👍👍👍
454 small block? I guess that is not a LS5 or LS6 engine lol...
Blueprint cast their own blocks, the pistons are just very close and the head gaskets are very thin between cylinders.
Thank God its not a ' 253 '😅.
Perfect combo
Take out that 3,800 stall and put in a 2,500. High stalls suck on the street.💯
454 good motos 5 speed😅
God bless the good people of Australia. The world will never forget how your fascist government treated your people during Covid!
308 didn’t last long 😂😂
