      An old man in this village, actually the old major, has grown hundreds of gladiolus every year, just out of his own interest, he told me he always interplanted his flowers with heaps of tagetes, that kept bugs away.

    I love love love Queen Anne's lace. When I got married, 34 years ago, I dried hundreds of stems of QA lace in silica gel and used it to decorate dozens of Christmas trees. I got married on Dec 20th so wedding decor was very wintery and Christmassy. Not sure why I shared that lol....thought you would find it interesting.

    Every time you say 'Hi flower friends'; I say 'Hi, Nicole' lol Hubby's like 'who are you talking to?' me: 'Nicole'. Hubby, 'oh that goofy flower lady?' lol ;) OMG those sunflowers - GORGEOUS. One of my fav cut flowers this year is Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ - Globe Thistle. I raise honeybees and it's a fav with the girls as well. I used that grass in a bouquet today-I call it foxtail. Love it - free filler! OH, BTW - burdock and hair - NOT a good combo. While cutting flowers this afternoon, not just one, but several of those lil buggers stuck in my hair. Had to use the Scissors to cut myself loose from this beast. Lets just say 'hair; it will grow back' *!@#$ Yes, more bouquet videos - I'm still learning. Especially, how you prep. ie. do you remove all the leaves on zinnias, dahlias..etc? At what point to harvest zinnia, dahlias.

      Hahaha I love it! I have been wanting to get my hands on the Globe Thistle! So fun. Foxtail is a great name for that grass- I'm totally stealing it! UGH When I was 12 I had to cut my hair for the same reason!

    Okay definitely not the only reason that this channel is gold, but for the sake of comment length, I NEED you to know how valuable vase life information is. Like all of that resting period info I have learned somewhat but never articulated it even though i began practicing it naturally. And the nugget about basil not doing well in the fridge, LITERALLY just learned that last night from my market bouquets (luckily they rebounded) but anyways, please continue blurting out all of the random detailed lessons you’ve learned about cutting, storing, prepping, etc. GOLD!!!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 -Miranda SE Virginia

    Yayyy to more videos!! I have a big garden but I don‘t spray anything there - even though the bugs are going all in there 🤣... but I am not selling anything so that‘s the difference. But I have over 100 houseplants and I have dealt with thrips. They are the worst pest! Spraying is the only option otherwise they will transfer to all my other houseplants. ..... Your flowers look beautiful. Greetings from Germany 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

    No definite help on the Thrips....I lost 400 Glads blooms last year to them! It was quite disappointing!! I saved the bulbs though, and treated them with antifungal type stuff this year before planting them. Hoping that will help though I might spray them too. Hope you find what works for you! Hi Nicole! I am struggling with the same issue about Thrips and spider mites....My whole cut flower garden got attacked badly, and all the corps are damaged. I find thrips even in some plants that supposed to be pest free, such as snaps, zinnias, gomphrenas....In every flower of snapdragons and petunias, there are a family of thrips! I was wondering if how do you contain the thrip damage in only of the gladiolus patch? I tried the Captain Jack and it does work for a while but the thrips will come back in no time. I know you are supposed to cover the whole plant with the spray, but obviously I won't be able to spay into every bloom of every plant. I don't know if it is because of the extra hot summer or what, but I am seriously bugged by these little demons this year. PLEASE HELP ME😭

    Hi Nicole, I was watching a video from Fraser Hill Nursery and they use nematodes like Steinerema feltiea to get rid of fungus gnats AND THRIPS since the larva live in the soil. I've used nematodes to get rid of beetle grubs which really worked. Maybe that would help in your case?

    Thrips will DESTROY gladiolas. I used to work for JW Jung seed co. and we planted acres of glads. We had to spray them often. If I were you, I would spray them often or you will end up with a lot of bulbs and no flowers. Do you save and plant the small corms?

    • @Olivia54984
      @Olivia54984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlowerHillFarm I've read also that thrips can come from improperly stored corms. I guess if you store below 40 degrees and above 32 degrees the thrips will die (take a couple months-- 4, I think). (I have a famous daylily hybridizer, doctor of horticulture neighbor who mentioned the same in dealing with thrips on daylilies.) In your zone, they should die in your ground, unless you have mulched up and composted like a crazy woman this fall where you grew them this year.
      Also, I am watching your videos in random order and saw a couple videos with the organza baggies. Are you organic? Can you use a 3-in-1 product like the Safer brand on the glads and dahlias?
