    My laser didn’t come with a ceramic cap. My red wire is already capped. It looks like all I needed to do was screw the red to the other piece on the power supply. I have an 80 watt. Does this sound right?

  • @michelle9828
    @michelle9828 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this! Very helpful. My 100W OMtech machine came with a sticker that said "..and do not let the ceramic cap touch the chassis" does that mean that it should not touch the metal frame of the machine, or in other words the cover?

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly. The cap is used to insulate the high voltage and the closer it is to metal the better chance it has to arc. If it's mounted to the tube you should be fine.

  • @Rover0010
    @Rover0010 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cam, how critical is the spacing between the front of the laser tube and the frame for the first mirror? I've seen videos with distances mentioned anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1.25 inches. Why the big difference and what impact on the laser output/performance does this spacing have?

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s really not critical at all. Your beam travels over much longer distances than 1.25 inches. Having it up closer is easier to control where you want it to hit, but really makes no difference in performance once everything is aligned.

  • @imagineengine

    thanks for this video. I'm going to be helping a freind set up his 100w in a couple days. I currently have the 60w r&B so tube installation is new to me even. Can I not just use a wire nut for the red wires as well? If no and I have to use the ceramic does the silicone absolutely have to dry completely before first use? He lives an hour away and I really don't want to have to hook up the tube and drive back for a second time to help him set up the rest once the silicone is dry. Thanks

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you absolutely have to use the ceramic cap. the high voltage will go right through the nut. Have your friend place the tube in the mounts loosely. The black wires can be connected with an electrical cap. On the high voltage lines, twist the red lines together and shove it in the ceramic cap as far as it will go and seal the end with the included silicone. You can make adjustments to the tube when you get there.

      @@EdmondsWoodshop thankyou for getting back to me. What I was asking is can I go ahead and use the laser to align his mirrors and complete setting it up and right after connecting the the high voltage wires? Or do I absolutely have to allow the silicone to dry before using the laser at all?

    Hi, great video. Question, I didn’t see a link for the spring clamps. What size should I ask for? Thank you.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      11 mm should be good. The outer diameter of your hoses are 12mm and they’re even bigger when place over a connector.

    How much distance should there be from the end of the laser tube to the mirror? Do you have to do any recalibration once installed? Thank you

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might of missed it but I didn’t mention .5”. I’d give yourself may be .5”-1” to allow room for cleaning. There’s a lens at the end of the tube that needs to be cleaned every so often.
      The distance, however, doesn’t really matter because it’ll be bouncing off a series of mirrors as it is. Once your tube is installed you’ll have to align your mirrors.

    Thanks for this video, very helpful. Question... we are looking at a 100w Omtech that was purchased by a guy that never used it and now wants to get it out of his way. Is there any reason we could not plug it in and make sure the power works without the tube hooked up? What would you do in this situation?

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically you could turn it on, but without the laser tube and water running through the system you'll get errors. All that you'd be able to verify is thay the power turns on. And just in case you didn't know there's two power supplies. A 24v power supply which powers everything except the tube and a power supply for the laser tube. The key switch controls the laser tube power supply only. Also make sure the emergency stop switch is popped out (not in) otherwise nothing will turn on.

    got the fluid going through my laser tube - OMTech 80w laser engraver.
    Using an CW3000 water chiller but I have a dime sized bubble and also hundreds of tiny bubbles.
    Cannot find a video showing or stating how to remove the bubbles and have heard on many videos that I cannot use the laser engraver if there ARE bubbles inside the laser tube. Any advice?

    • @EdmondsWoodshop

      Absolutely Okay. Everything just sort of gets tucked in there. The tube won't get hot so no worries about that. I have the 80w red which is the same exact body as the 100w 20 x 28. You'll just have a longer tube.
