I love how they've incorporated the new lyrics into the broadway production as well, proof that art is fluid and ever changing, and there's no such thing as a "finished product".
Agreed, great example of how art never stops evolving. Also obsessed with how Hadestown feels different every show, and how cast members get so much agency to incorporate elements of their true selves into their characters.
I love how even though they’re all different than the og cast they’re not trying to be the same. They’re putting their own touches on the story and it’s amazing
I was honestly surprised by how...fresh...the show felt with a completely different cast. It didn't fee like "Hadestown from wish" so to say, as some shows do when they rely to heavily on their original cast and not enough on good music and storytelling. This genuinely felt like a fresh rendition of the show and I loved it.
I have seen Hadestown five times and honestly, a really great part of it is seeing what each new cast does. The current tour I loved the changes to the lyrics to fit a nonbinary Hermes. They also had absolutely amazing presence and you could tell how much fun they were having.
my fav part of every hadestown recording ever is the sobs/gasps/reactions u can hear throughout the play without fail with every cast. the show simply pulls off its big momentss PERFECTLY. ie the gates of hell opening in wait for me, epic iii, when he turns around.... PHENOMENAL
This cast is astonishing. Everyone brimming with feels, Jordan's 'If it's True?' and Isa's 'Flowers' so beautiful and sorrowful 💘. I raise my cup to them and you 🍷
Criminal lack of people talking about Philip Boykin as Hades, sure he doesnt have the sheer gravlelieness of Patrick Paige, but he makes up for it and more with the personality he adds to the music
@@J.Trimboli I really love the way he sings "I could use a canary" like he's playing with eurydice, I wish I could see him live but I live in australia
He's my favorite Hermes along with Andre. And I love all the unique touches he brings to the role. Isa and Jordan also knock it out of the park. Thank you so much for this!
Same, so worth it. I wanted to see Sweeney for Jordan and he left before I could so seeing him in Hadestown as Orpheus made up for it. And it’s better anyway since it’s a larger role!!
I saw this cast last week and have been scouring for recordings of Jordan and Isa! The original cast recording is great, of course, but there’s something about this combination that is perfect to me ❤
i was there the following night, it was my first time seeing hadestown and i could not imagine a better cast! so happy i found audio of the exact cast, allows me to relive it!
Just saw them last week! I've seen Hadestown on tour, but this was my first broadway show. Honestly like this cast a little more than the original - every new show they just keep building and improving off the last. I'm glad there's a recording out there since this cast was so good.
I'm obsessed with how horrifying the muses sound in this. They give me the shivers and really define themselves as antagonists with their shrieks and laughter 50:42 and their line delivery is so malicious at 1:57:14 to instill doubt in Orpheus. Jordan's ST-O-O-o-o-n-e-s 58:33 is delicious. Jordan is an incredible Orpheus. Jon Jon's incredible singing immediately grabbed my attention in the opening and the Road to Hell (reprise) hits so hard and really makes me grieve for Orpheus'. Isa's Eurydice is immaculate. Flowers is devastating and beautiful.
I just saw this last week and while I didn’t get to see Jordan Fisher, I got to see Chibueze Ihuoma perform as Orpheus and omg I can’t explain into words how amazing he was!
I saw this production on March 23 and it was the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life! I love broadway and Jordan and this was the most perfect production! I wish I could live on broadway cause I’d be there every weekend
I gotta say something... I went to Hadestown UK completely blind, and when I listened to the official broadway recording afterwards, I thought it doesn't do justice to the UK cast and show in many ways. Melanie la Barrie as Hermes and Gloria Onitiri as Persephone were absolute POWERHOUSES. It was an amazing experience.
@@agubelu oh absolutly. All the casts are amazing in their own way, but to be able to see the different US casts would be a dream! But I loved the UK cast back in february and I am so happy they get their own cast recording!
I saw this version of the play. I honestly thought it was best in my opinion because the cast singing was incredible. The choreography was brilliant and the people who played the instruments truly made the play come alive.
Thank you for uploading this!!! I saw it this past weekend after purposefully going in as blind as possible, and I LOVED it. It might just be bias because they were my introduction but I like this cast a little more than the original, I’d love for them to do another album or a pro shoot with this cast before Ani leaves.
Jordan Fisher’s Epic II rendition will never cease to amaze me. Like bro you know you’re allowed to use head voice there lol, jokes aside I love his belty segments so much even if Reeve’s falsetto is my favorite
I'm so excited to see it live for the first time!!! I've listened to the soundtrack so many times for years. I LOVE Andre De Shields, and he's magnetic and brilliant, but I can tell just from the fjrst few minutes of this that Jon Jon is phenomenal. Seeing him and his daughter (with my own dad) is going to be so special. And Ani DiFranco! Ahh!
They all sound great including Jordan! I will be visiting in mid-April when he is out according to SeatGeek but the understudies appear to be very good too. Does the father-daughter dynamic add to the show? Before it seemed like Hermes was a mentor/guardian for Orpheus.
Absolutely! Their father-daughter dynamic definitely adds so much. Hermes feels like a guardian to both Orpheus and Eurydice in this show, and you can feel his anger and disappointment towards Orpheus for losing Eurydice more than ever before IMO (especially after Hermes sets them up together). There are also small beautiful moments here and there, like Jon Jon kissing Isa on the shoulder at the show's open, and the way he proudly watches her perform, and how their characters interact, and little glances at each other they share, etc. 🥹
I’m surprised they used the new UK Epic III lyrics but not the If It’s True ending change. Honestly I would have them swapped lol I love the new If It’s True lyrics but not the new Epic III ones
I do think they just tested the new if its true lines during previews but also abolished them during previews already (in the uk) - they never made it to the final show
Sorry but this show is best with soulful vocals. I saw it 3 times. Stephanie Mills, her voice alone over powers this part. Same for Boykins, Yola and Jordan Fisher. No one can match them..
She's not normally a Broadway performer, but Ani DiFranco is the person who sang Persephone's parts on Anaïs Mitchell's original _Hadestown_ album in 2010, and was involved in producing that album in other ways. In fact, she's the owner of the record label that released it.

His confidence is, at its core, the power of hope and it just gets crushed and it’s really heartbreaking to hear
The whole overarching theme and the truly heartbreaking part of Hadestown and more specifically, the original story of Orpheus and Eurydice is that they would have made had he BELIEVED that he could. But he’s always fated to fall into doubt, to fall to pieces because he’s truly lost without an audience and the support of those around him. At the end of the day, the character of Orpheus is someone who needs an audience and whether or not that makes him cocky is up for debate. But I think that’s what makes Orpheus Orpheus. It’s always Orpheus and Eurydice never just Orpheus because honestly I think he might need her more than she needs him.
16:45 love love love Jordan’s R & B falsetto. The little belts also make my heart smile. Love seeing a POC as Orpheus!!
I love Jon Jon’s Filipino/Tagalog inserts that he does throughout the show ❤️
