I love finding out things about this 400 I didn't know before! I'll pass on the transmission and rev limiter though.... knowing my luck, things will go booom
I hear ya. The trans mod is safe. I’ve had it for 20K miles now. The rev limiter is just a preferential thing. These motors are very strong and really the limiter is just a safeguard for over-revving. We are just “making it active.” :)
Man I love the sound of the 400. My wife's second love is me and coming in a close first is her 2001 Lexus GS300. This weekend we had a problem that has been in the works for 3 years. The low oil pressure light came on about three years ago. My wife was driving it and she told me about it. I quickly discovered that if that light comes on and your low oil pressure truly is low you won't have an engine after a few minutes. So knowing my wife had been driving the thing for a while with that light on I figured it was some kind of short or whatever. Took it to the mechanic. They for some reason couldn't determine why the light would just intermittently light up. This is not the low oil light just to clarify. I thought that if we didn't figure out why that dang light was coming on this thing would turn out bad. Fast forward three years and this past weekend my wife went to start her car and it made a loud clang like the oil in the lower part of the engine was low. BUT the dipstick did not show low oil. Had it towed and the same mechanic that couldn't figure it out last time said it was just the wire going to the oil pressure sensor that was flaking out. So he replaced that and thankfully that clanging did not ruin the engine. It is now running the way it did some time ago and my wife is so happy to have her car back. I'm just going to say that if you haven't done a video on replacing old wiring in the engine throughout it would be a good thing to see. I was changing out the spark plugs some time ago and I broke a bunch of wires and connectors. They just snapped and then I realized that mechanics often break a bunch of things while servicing old cars. Any plug or wire and connecting contact areas are need to be updated if you buy one and like many people that acquire a Lexus think these cars "last forever". The sure has heck don't. If that were true I'd still be driving my 2001 Lexus LS400. But they can run what seems like forever. Man, great channel. Subscribed!
Great job bro. I have a 98 gs 400 with 220k and an is300 with 210k. The GS still runs better than most NEW cars! I DID learn some stuff I didn't know about before. Great video!
Hi again, just jumping over from the last one, new to me is the tapping the steering wheel, switching the gear change. What i do to get off the line quicker is to put it in sport mode and turn off the traction control and start in position 1, you have to be quick to change up though, try it.
I actually don’t have sport mode. I have pwr, but that just holds gears longer for non-WOT driving. If I go to L and try to smack the shifter to 2nd it will often hit the rev limiter; while that sounds cool, I just let 1st gear do its thing and run it in M 2nd-3rd. I can squeeze 200RPM out of each shift in 2 and 3 if I am fast. For me, this method has proven to be the best 0-80 run in my car.
@@ForwardMomentum Happens to me sometimes aswell. Not often but it just randomly wont let me shift into 2nd. Ive tried at low speeds and will not work, even moving the shift nob to "2" won't let it down shift. The issue comes and goes without turning on/off the car.
@@haydenmilles6662 the only logic built into not going into 2 in M is temperature. If it’s not warmed up, you’ll get a few beeps and it won’t go to 2 in M mode.
Just asking, ever thought of upgrading the rear view mirror to the 01+ rear view mirror with compass? Tail lights to the 01+? And even the steering wheel to the 01+ GS300? All bolt ons and plug ins. (I did to my 99 GS300, the kouki look). Great vids! 👍
Fantastic ideas! ‘01 w/compass? Yes please! I have also considered the tail lights but simply didn’t wanna spend the money. The steering wheel is also a very interesting idea. Great suggestions, thanks for commenting!
Hidden feature #4 is most advisable when the vehicle is brand new. Doing so this late in the vehicle life stage could result in blowing out the seals in the transmission. The adjustment dial is responsible for variations in "line pressure" (if I am remembering correctly), in Europe there are a few instances where people have found their dials set to the third position, for most of us in the states, we get position two and should probably keep the dial set on two unless we want to reseal or rebuild our transmissions. During a conversation with two Lexus Technicians that worked on these vehicles brand new to when they were a few years old, they said I could turn the dial (@170k+ miles) if I wanted to rebuild the transmission after the fact. Needless to say, adjusting the wire going from the gas pedal to the throttle body has cured my need for responsiveness. haha
I turned mine to “III” around 120K miles. I’m at 163K mi and she’s running perfect. Think about it: increased line pressure = less slip on the clutch packs which = less heat which = longevity. I was VERY skeptical and cautious before I did it, but all is well.
@@ForwardMomentum Increasing line pressure will surely decrease wear to the clutch packs, but that's not the worry. The internal seals being able to withstand the increase in pressure after holding back slightly less pressure after decade+ of existence is the worry. Of course we all make decisions where we cannot predict a definite outcome, so if your transmission is working well, then awesome.
Saw your other video about hidden features and was about to comment about the transmission line pressure switch but I saw this video pop up and decided to wait and see if you mentioned it in this one haha.
No one mentioned the escape latch in the trunk! You never know if you need it. It located inside the trunk behind the license plate. You gotta remove the lining to get to it, but is there 👍🏽
Just recently purchased a 2004 GS430, watched the top 10 hidden features, and then went straight to this one. Great upload!! I didn't know about most of these features! Very curious to know, what do those three soft rubber buttons by the dome and reading lights do? I'm yet to figure that out LOL!!

Thanks I always hated the fact that it doesn't let you start in 1st gear in the manual mode but now I see how I can wish there was a way to start in 1st with the button shift manual mode
Thanks for posting this. I was able to find the pulley in the trunk for the gas lid. I always wondered if there was a manual way in case the inside button fails. 2001 Gs430.
Also all the windows will continue to go up, as well as down after the car has been turned off. Unless you open the door before they finish cause then they will just stop immediately.
I'm confused. So for the transmission dial adjustment. Is it as easy as just turning a switch with a flat head or is there any special modifications needed done before turning that dial? You mentioned something about the transmission pan and cleaning the gasket?
It’s that easy - but you have to drop the pan to do the mod. Since you’re dropping the pan, may as well replace the strainer (or clean your existing one) and, of course, replace the pan gasket.
I have a 98 GS300 and I learned a few new things. Thank you. I have the taillight warning light activated on my cluster. Just happened but all my rear lights work. How can I get rid of the warning light.
Hi mate, I have a GS300 and wondering if u can completely disable traction control, ,? Just pushing the button by gear lever is ok for straight line skids but when I try to slide sideways it shuts the power down and beeps/warning lights on dash. Any quick fix at all..? I've enjoyed a couple of your tricks, I knew a few but always good to find a new trick. P.S. Mine's a RHD model for South African/Asian/New Zealand market and apart from being mirror image to your LHD one, every trick works the same. Cheers mate..
Hey! I’m not aware of any VSC trick. When the button is pushed on mine I can slide all over the place. So weird yours still has a portion turned on? Perhaps there’s a VSC fuse somewhere? LMK if you find anything out.
@ForwardMomentum oh that's strange, cause on a 2002 toyota camry the headlights do turn off even if you have the switch on parking light or low beam, not sure if a Lexus LS430 does the same
That’s interesting. Yeah, on the USDM 2GS, there’s an “AUTO” setting which was pretty advanced for its time, considering mine is a 98. It will turn the headlights on, and also turn them off after the key is removed (after a certain time period - maybe 30 sec?). I don’t really use AUTO, but it’s nice to know it’s there.
@ForwardMomentum Oh, that's very cool, but in some countries like Sweden, you need to have your headlights on all the time, even during daylight, and the problem is that some people forget to turn off their headlights, especially when the buzzer is broken, other cars like bmw and mercedes do it automatically when you turn off the ignition.
Makes total sense. The Swedes know safety. I am a huge proponent of headlight use, even in the daytime. Drivers are such idiots here that we need every advantage to be seen that we can get. My son is in driver training and I tell him to flick on the headlights all the time. 👍
You can go in to 1st on manual but you must be in power mode and in 3rd not M for some reason it only goes to 2nd on M. The purpose of the M is to power brake. To save maintenance on the brakes.

Does ur steering wheel go back to the setting u had it at when u turn the car on then move to a comfortable position for u to get in and out the car as u turn it off?
I don’t touch my steering wheel adjustment controls at all - ever. It goes to the position I need when I put the key in, then goes in and up when I take the key out.
Nice vid. I have a 2005 in white. I'm looking to upgrade there to get modern features like bluetooth and HD Radio. I'd like to replace the whole unit for a better fit. Any thought or probably I might run in to? Also, what are the devices you have there? I see on is a stereo, what's the lower one?
Hello - I don’t blame you. I’ve thought about doing the same. In the end I feel the factory system is acceptable, so I have just lived with it. I’m not a stereo expert, but I know folks have successfully installed nice double din units into the GS. That’s where I would start literally with a search on clublexus or similar. As for the devices below my stereo, it’s with the Apexi NEO SAFC or my Bluetooth adapter.
Instead of using the white metal grate just remove that plastic piece with the handle from the spare tire and get the spare wheel carrier (part#51931-24010) to hold down the spare tire and get the tool box (part#75201-30040) Check your local junk yard and im sure you could find both for under $10
They should turn off after 30 seconds or so. Make sure the key is out of the ignition and the car is locked using the FOB. If they still won’t turn off there’s a deeper issue.
Good day, dear friend, I bought a Lexus GS 300.1998g a duplicate ignition key. Please tell me how to program the buttons of the Central lock? I thank Zara in advance.
First, make sure all actuators are working perfectly. I have seen where they work, but not 100%. So the door locks, but the sensor doesn’t trip. Second, if all is well, test the horn for the alarm in the drivers side wheel well. If it worked before and now doesn’t, it’s probably something electrical, like a wire, sensor, etc. vs mechanical motion.
It controls how long gears are held and throttle response. In SNOW I believe the car starts out in 2nd gear. Funny enough, after my manual swap the ECT feature still works (throttle response only). Power mode only impacts mpg if you drive harder. I left mine in Power always when I had an AT and same with my MT.

Wow! What you have is very rare. You do not see the RMM sc’r around anymore - ever. I would love to see more on this car. First step is to get the maintenance in order. As far as tuning I think an AFC is your only option. I am not aware of anyone who has cracked the timing code. One guy did on the LS460, but that’s all I have seen. Wow, I would love more info, pics, etc!
@@ForwardMomentum it used to be the only option. After much research for my own use on my 2000 gs300 2zgte swap. And Supra tt auto trans swap. I found out that for the money and the tuning capabilities, you should look into the ecu-master det-3 , or the aem-fic. I actually have an AFC NEO as well, but I got the DET-3 , because it can also tune ignition timing, it's far more advanced in the fuel tuning , can controll much bigger injectors than the AFC, can change rev limit, control boost, nitrous, water meth, has 2-step/antilag and mine has a built in 3 bar map sensor! And best of all it's still a piggyback so it doesn't require rewiring enitre harness, but for advanced tuners it can function as a standalone fuel management system too!! Just msg me for questions if I can help anyone!
@@ForwardMomentum okay because my first gear kind of jerks me forward when it automatically downshifts I was kind of hoping between one of the settings or manually shifting it and maybe turning the dial to 1 if this would fix it without having someone look at it. I’m not a stereo expert, but I know folks have successfully installed nice double din units into the GS. That’s where I would start literally with a search on clublexus or similar. As for the devices below my stereo, it’s with the Apexi NEO SAFC or my Bluetooth adapter.
Instead of using the white metal grate just remove that plastic piece with the handle from the spare tire and get the spare wheel carrier (part#51931-24010) to hold down the spare tire and get the tool box (part#75201-30040) Check your local junk yard and im sure you could find both for under $10
Good info, thx!
Hi forward momentum I have 2002 Lexus GS 300 but the head lights no turn off en mod automatic you know something about this can you help me ?please
They should turn off after 30 seconds or so. Make sure the key is out of the ignition and the car is locked using the FOB. If they still won’t turn off there’s a deeper issue.
@@ForwardMomentum thank you may be is why the passenger door no lock because the cable is wrong the last owner makes a mickey mouse
I love this video although it was more than 10 years ago. The car is sick and bad ass!
Thanks! The video isn’t that old yet. Just 2 years old as I type this. 😎
Dude thanks for the info. This is awesome!!
That is what G.S stands for!!.Make sense
Lexus G(Got)S(Secrets)..lol great video an great secrets i cant wait to buy me another one 👍👍👍
What’s your exhaust setup?
I have a couple videos on it.
Was wondering what type of exhaust you have sounds beastly💪
Thanks. I have a video on it if you want to check it out. It’s not a simple answer so I’m directing you to the vid.
Good day, dear friend, I bought a Lexus GS 300.1998g a duplicate ignition key. Please tell me how to program the buttons of the Central lock? I thank Zara in advance.
www.key-programmer.com/2016/07/22/steps-to-program-key-for-lexus-gs300-400-430-98-05/
so i have a first gen gs and before when i locked my doors it beeped now it just stopped working but my doors lock any suggestions
My sc430 transmission that i put in was at 1 and i turned it up to 3. But dyno said big difference.
just got mine today
I have Gs400 can i upgrade the performance by little modifications which are secret on GS400 ???!
There are no hidden power secrets. You gotta work for it. :)
Keep it up love your channel
I just bought a 1999 gs 400 and my ac is not coming out cold at all. Any advice?
Have a trustworthy shop run a leak test. Probably lost it all through a bad seal.
Can you turn off traction control on the gs 300?
Do you have a VSC button by the heated seats buttons?
How many miles are on your gs?
161K
Can anyone explain the power ect button infront of the shifter
It controls how long gears are held and throttle response. In SNOW I believe the car starts out in 2nd gear. Funny enough, after my manual swap the ECT feature still works (throttle response only). Power mode only impacts mpg if you drive harder. I left mine in Power always when I had an AT and same with my MT.
Great upload I'll try some of these my GS.
Love vids. I have my 99 lexus gs400 abandond in California (live i mExico) has a Rodmillen Supercharger,Torque converter,Ltuned Exhast and downpide,Tein Coilovers,Dampers,Brembo Brake Kit sitting on 22,s. Cameleon coated tricked with hidden departments and tricks for highspeed chases. Evaded many times successfully. I was a beast in 2000. Cars been sitting for over a year and i need to get it tunes and probly dyno. Im definitly getting the Apex you have but do you recomnd anything else? Like a chip or any other upgrades.
Awesome info! Thanks!
@@ForwardMomentum Do you have a link to that Ls460 I have 2008 ls460 and ofcrse a 98 GS 400:)
Read about techstream app it app you can check every thing in lexus
Hahah I thought the fuel door release was a strap to hold things 😂😂
beautiful car
What's significance of rev limiter
To save the engine from exploding.
"You can put a body in here." Lol 😅
What is the least expensive fix for the the tilt steering wheel??
Junkyard replacement. Or, try to “jump” the motor to where you want it and live with it. The gears are metal so it’s probably the motor.
@@ForwardMomentum Thank U
Where are located state wise??
You’re welcome. DM me on Instagram. I like to keep personal info on the DL.
what’s your gauge in the corner? Never knew about the trunk release. Thanks
Nice thanks buddy i learned a few things
3rd gear is so good
What happens if you set the trans to 1? More smooth??
Correct. Lower line pressure, less grab on the clutch packs.
@@ForwardMomentum okay because my first gear kind of jerks me forward when it automatically downshifts I was kind of hoping between one of the settings or manually shifting it and maybe turning the dial to 1 if this would fix it without having someone look at it. I can just use 2nd to avoid 1st downshift. Then shift down into first. Got to get used to the manual controls on the steering wheel I just got the car and did not drive it for the winter getting it ready now. I'll post some vids of it. You will like it xD
@@ILLUMINATION313EVO check fluid levels first. I would not turn the dial to try to mask an existing issue. Check out my stage 1 trans video.
@@ForwardMomentum alright I will thankyou
Thanks for this!
What are you tire and rim size?
18x8, 245/40/18
anyone with a 430 know if that transmission dial trick is worth it?
Hey bud, it’s me again. You probably don’t remember but I ask you about how I saw a Gs300 I wanted like a week ago? Turns out they sold it. 😭 So I found another one but I’m unsure if it’s a Sport Designed one. There any way to find out by just looking at the car? I know the car is a Mystic Sea Opalescent color. I’m not sure if that helps?
The items I mentioned in my other reply to you are what to look for on the Sport Design package. If you want to send me the ad, hit me up on IG @youtube_forward_momentum
Forward Momentum Darn. I don’t have IG. 🤦🏻♂️😂
Well aren’t you missing out! :)
Easy way is the headlights they have dark housing
Why does my car always start from gear 2 in manual mode?
It actually doesn’t start in 2nd. It physically starts in first; it just indicates 2 in M. Think of e-shift as a way to hold gears 2-5 to redline if you desire.
@@ForwardMomentum ohh ok thanks so much,i just picked up my gs300 2002 2jz i am absolutely in love with, just i think my wheel bearing is making noise, is it a common issue for these cars?
Not really. A wheel bearing will make a wrrrrr, wrrrrr, wrrrrr noise. Is that what you’re getting?
@@ForwardMomentum ye something like that, but how do i know which wheel,i put it on the jacks but both rear wheel making a noise whilst spinning
@@ahmadabdurrehman528 put car on jack stands and rock wheel/tire top to bottom. Excessive play may indicate a bad bearing.
I love your content
What about gs 430.. I tried to hit rev limiter but i cant..
There has to be one. Does it just shift even if you try to hold the gear?
@@ForwardMomentum it's not shifting To the second gear.. But there is no sound like yours.. It's like when you hit speed limiter very quite.. I think all 430 like that 😓
My car had intake and exhaust at the time, so it was probably louder. Do you have any mods?
@@ForwardMomentum also my gs had air intake and exhaust.. My frind has a gs 2009 350 stock and it's making sound like 400 when he hit rev limiter, i think there is a way or it's need to be programed.. Any way thank you so mutch 👍🏼
I have a gs430 and it definitely has the same rev limiter.
Did you get your front lip yet ?
Yes, a while ago. Weather has been too crappy to film the prep, but it’s next I think.
@@ForwardMomentum I understand weather has me stuck in my house lol too cold to do anything ! Been wanting to change my oil and do my valve cover gaskets.
Not exactly a feature, but did you know the UZ was one of the few auto engines certified for aviation?
Wiki says: "
Derivatives
FV2400-2TC
In 1997, the US Federal Aviation Administration granted production certification for the FV2400-2TC, a twin-turbocharged airplane powerplant based on the UZ series Lexus engine.[9] The 360 hp (268 kW; 365 PS) FV2400 was developed in partnership with Hamilton Standard, which provided the digital engine-control system.[9] The goal was to produce a four-seat propeller aircraft.[10]
I did know this! So cool. It’s also a certified marine engine! 😎
thx for it.
I was gonna do the trans mod when I got my car initially but when I dropped the pan I saw the previous owner had it already set on 3 lol. I wish there was a 4th setting kuz I drive the car hard almost everywhere I go lol.
manual swap
@@aleksiesko885 I crashed that car💔, currently building a new gs400. Doing some resto before mods
On my GS430 I've got the valve body mod and turned the screw to 3, it's like it's on 6 now. Swapping to a 6 speed manual soon though.
@@Hilife23 smh
Lol I did the steering wheel angle mod one and now my wheel won't go up or down
You might have to lightly fist/tap the steering wheel while pushing the actuator.
My GS300 take long to engage reverse after I start the car, it takes up to 15 minutes before it reverse
There’s a bolt on the actual shifter that can come loose on these vehicles. Be sure to check for that.
@@ForwardMomentumwill check it out
I thought maybe transmission fluid or gearbox oil is low...
Well check all easy things too. But I hear the thing I mentioned can be an issue.

P.s. what up wit that dyno run??? I done ordered an apexi for my car it'll be here next week.
I have been enjoying the street tune method so much that I am just putting it off. It really isn’t necessary to dyno it. I was thinking about the track instead but the weather just sucks lately.
