Tried lime away on our truck that had hard water stains that were at least 6 months old and it worked like a dream! Hardly any scrubbing needed, I'll use this for forever now.
Thank you, Angel! Yesterday I ran my car through an auto-wash and this morning I woke up to the most gnarly swirly white stains on the top of the housings for both side mirrors! So weird!! I'll report back tomorrow after I get some LimeAway! Stay tuned.
You know what works best and is super cheap? Brillo pads. You have the abrasiveness of steel wool along with an agitating soap element. Just make it slightly damp and scrub, then rinse thoroughly. I just did mine and they came out amazing. Don't put chemicals on your car.
Very helpful. BIG Thanks! Tried compound as well as paint restorer for hours on a very neglected (years worth) and built up amount of hard water stains which did almost nothing. Watched your vid here and even had a small amount of some Lime Away left under our sink which I never even thought about. About 1/8 of a bottle of that removed all of the hard water build up on the entire side of a van. I could see it working almost instantly when first applied. There's quite a few vids on removing hard water stains and, while I didn't watch them all, this is the only one I saw that tried Lime Away and seems to work way better than the rest --many of which are supposed to be specialty hard water stain removers.

As far as the automatic dishwasher detergent goes, it is usually just a very strong base or caustic which dissolves any organic material like food and fats on your dishes. It is very active in that regard, kind of like Draino. I don't think it does anything much as far as hard water. I think the rinse agent, such as Jet Dry Finish (and others), that is the second product you use in the dishwasher, allows the water to sheet off the dishes instead of clinging and then drying the water out leaving the deposits.
