The last few years were just the last straw on the camel's back. Catalog mail-order competition has always been around, online purchasing is not all that revolutionary. These stores have all set themselves up for failure with many years of incompetent and lazy management, half of them can't get very basic stuff right like consistently accurate price tags or restocking. When you point it out, the employees either give a dumb confused look or they know about the problem and are frustrated because management won't fix it. Don't even get me started on the increasingly terrible merchandising of the past two decades. The attempt to replace intelligent human coordination of products with overly simplistic algorithms based only on recent sales trends, with no understanding of how product selection works as a larger set or bothering to know WHY customers are picking one item over another. Let alone an understanding of what people would prefer to purchase locally vs online. Then you get the occasional halfwit customer survey which is clearly bias to supporting someone in management and really doesn't want to know any actual useful opinions or information.

Pretty much everyone will concur, as do I. Consider malls and drive-in movie theaters. And corporate in many cases have no clue as they sit in their offices without getting out on the ground level to observe what's going on, but merely stare at a spreadsheet and graphs to while the front liners in many cases do not or have not been trained, to which we cannot hold them at fault. Not to say that there are not good management ones who haven't forgotten what it was like being on the front line who actually teach and train those whom are a part of the team as a whole and not just an expendable number.
You're missing the deeper reasons. Let's back up. Look at Mad Men, S1, how they explained Marlboro. It was a WOMEN'S cigarette, just as Mustang was a young/women's car. Look at the Edsel and why it failed. The front end has a weird shape that doesn't scream masculine. That's why. Would anyone have verbalized it? Unlikely.

There have been FAR too many places to buy stuff in America for at least the past 25 years. [How many starbucks and jamba juice stores do we actually need? ] This is actually good news - blaming it on "inflation" is just ridiculous, however. Any retailer faced with an increase in the cost of the products they sell simply raises the price they charge. Since every retailer is living under the same rate of inflation, it can't hurt your business, since everyone else has raised their prices too.

To be fair, all those stores suck
Government greed and delusion is what's causing closures. BEST ECONOMY JOE
Theft more lol
Blame the people on minimum wage yes they caused this 🤣😂🤣
Yeah BUT WA state has NO income and NO corporate tax so keep things in perspective my friend.
Hollowed out, like TH-cam employees.
Bidenomics 🎉
More like stupidnomics
How am I going to steal food now
Record profits are the real cause of inflation
Just open a taco stand… no need to pay any taxes or worry about rent :)
genius idea, the government would just send the tax money overseas
I just left ampm 5 mins ago and they're charging 4.99 for 16oz of water. I left the store empty handed.
Don't they often have water fountains? Walgreen's does.
make sure you till JOE thank you !!
california
The Democrats and politicians that run the east and west coast states do not care how much they hurt others.yes most of these big corporations are definitely partly to blame especially when they have their crooked lobbies passing laws.
Biden admin acts like this is the best economy since world war 2 all while we go into a recession.
I just don't have the money stretched like I used to.
Inflation? Yea more like bad democrat policies
No more drugs is a good thing. Change the food culture in America. Let food be your medicine. Demand more healthier ingredients
Biden and Dem think we’re doing great. Lol, yeah right.
build back poorer
Poor Seattle the prices are ridiculous there for what you get, and see around you. But the hidden gems in WA along the Puget sound are undeniable!
Shhh... 🤪
@@Mauser1965I can’t wait to go to girl on TH-cam giving up information…lolz
Your comment is the only well thought out one in this comment section. The political dunces will blame each other’s party because they are brainwashed and can’t think about an issue critically. I would add to your statement that the amount of retail theft around the entire country is high profile, but so is package theft from residences. The clickbait title of this video is a tell of the posting party’s political lean. Just more propaganda
Unlikely.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Who are you replying too?
Employees are the ones running out customers!!!! Customer service is dead.i personally prefer online shopping cuz you get treated like a criminal instead of greeted with smile.
That's Bidenomics!
Dollar stores overbuilt in the 2010s so much so that some communities passed ordinances on how densely the stores could be built. Dollar Tree merged with Family Dollar, so there isn’t a need to have both within a mile of each other.
One Dollar General in Dunning (Chicago, by Norridge) got closed for unsanitary conditions!! Eww.
Don't you actually mean crime and BIDENOMICS..
Priced yourselves out of existence? Sorry, not sorry
Very sad smh
Theft
It's pretty much impossible for "sales to keep up with inflation" when inflation is high.
I call bull. Why? When virus started, I was doing well. Dog food was 52.00 for 30 pounds. Aldi trip ran about 50-60 bucks. 75 on the high side, 20-30 on the low.
Now?? Dog food is OVER 100.00!! Aldi? Can't walk out of there for less than 120 bucks now!!
I bought 2 loaves of Breadsmith bread, which was 5 bucks not long ago, and is now like EIGHT DOLLARS! So, 3 bananas and a snack bar, w bread cost me TWENTY DOLLARS?? WTF??
I work for rich people on 24/7 job. They gripe every time prices go up, too! Still driving a 70k Rover, tho...
What'll happen is I won't be able to sustain it. It isn't worth it now, really...
My MONEY didn't double, I stf know that much!
Don't be an AH when your people tell you they're now struggling.
vote trump we need to vote out all the democrats and the uni party.
OK genius what policies has Trump promoted to change this? This is a state-by-state issue stop being general like Trump show me some specifics. I bet you can’t.
Closing due to rampant shoplifting nobody does anything about, and crazy homeless drug addicts destroying everything. There, fixed that for you.
Closing stores is all part of the plan of the mark of the best and having to buy everything online....Joe idens / Obama America
The cause is Bidenomics and remember that Joe and Kamala delivered big time.
All those stores are useless. Businesses close because of poor management and not keeping up with times. Couple added elements are crime and governments. Fix law enforcement and your government and things will get back on track.
Go Biden
It's not just inflation. More people shop online since the pandemic.
I don't like the bad websites. Ie, you think your local store has X and they don't!! Best Buy is HORRIBLE w that!
Bad websites. Best Buy site says they have X and they don't. A scam, b/c the longer you waste there. The more you spend!
The” CAUSE”…(?)
January 20th, 2021
BuT tHe EcOnOmY is GoOD
You can thank Biden and the Democrats for that.
Congratulations captain obviously you are late u r thy snale
Build back better. Vote blue and you'll be living the blues.
You mean because of mass shoplifting!!!
Hold the line!! Vote blue 🔵 It will surely get better! 😏…😂😂😂
How about those BidenNomics?
Bide economic! He did that!
Ahhh finally the real story instead of them blaming it on shoplifting 😂
No, it's theft. Sorry. Look up Lincoln Park/DePaul, Chicago. Lots of crime since Lightfoot and I had hopes for her, too! She did NOTHING, minus gripe about bars in 2020. I was there. Watched the crime skyrocket, until some fool gives you a million to go away and then it isn't your problem anymore.
I haven't walked into either in years. You'd be not too bright to blow over 5.00 on a CUP of coffee, when a WHOLE, HUGE bag is next to nothing per serving.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Well, looking at the whole picture, you're not paying $5 for the coffee, you're paying $5 to have someone prepare it for you. The coffee itself, as you point out, is a fairly trivial expense.
But my point wasn't about the cost - it's just that we have, for many years, had literally too many places to buy stuff to be sustainable. Stores were closing because of this overbuilding years before the pandemic or homeless crisis hit.
As long as CEO pay is in the millions, I know who to blame.
With landlords taking all the money, there isn't any left for food and clothing. Close your stores and turn then in to housing. You'd make more money. Landlords are raking in billion$.
I wouldn't deal w S8 bs for ANY amount of money. Too much entitlement, and some people think it should all be free, when they do NOTHING to earn it. I've seen 5 ADULTS trying to rent, NONE had a job, plus copped a huge attitude about app fees and move-in fees.
Reminded me of the Bob Newhart show in the 80s. This rude loudmouth guy blamed everything on racism, and Bob finally says, "It's because you're a JERK!" Then he was cured.
Inflation Reduction Act ?
working as planned...
We the people can't afford rent and food in the US. What did these corporations expect?
We left the country in 2015 for a more affordable lifestyle overseas in SE Asia. Prices are rising here, though, and have a lot…but it still allows us a good lifestyle which includes weekly massages…often twice a week. Son and daughter live in California, both gainfully employed and homeowners, but …
Thanks Biden!! Lol 😅
You have to cut your expenses if you struggle with money. They keep us poor subconsciously through materialism
Noo...I was doing well in 2020. Had some $$.
Dog food was 52.00 for 30 pounds. That was ok.
It's now DOUBLE THAT. MORE!
Aldi 2020, maybe 50 bucks. Can't leave there now for under 100, and last few have been 120-145!!
I know damn well I'm.not making twice the MONEY, tho!
Fuck…we are doomed
Lib Seattle ?? How about amid thief’s , stealing , looting etc
"Thieves." It's not possessive. Meaning, ex. "The thieve's car..."
Better yet. "Theft."
There is one reason.
the dark side?
One world order
And that one youtube channel talking more details on this they are correct its scary times we are in
Good, let these big companies go out of business. It's time to bring back mom and pop shops.
Watch prices go up more after that, tho. You'll see.
