Big difference when I use to live in Long Beach, CA walmarts have a number of locked items in every department because of theft. Now living in Wyoming where no locked items except cigarettes at the register because there's hardly any crime happening there.
When Walmart pulled out of Portland, Oregon they had no problem reporting that it was due to shoplifting

It's not just the shoplifters it's the employees too .The Local Super K-Mart closed 15+ years ago the employees weren't scanning the products and not charging their friends and the Security guards were involved too , some of the merchandise went from the delivery trucks straight into peoples vehicles . About 29 people were arrested
including shift managers. It doesn't matter if the stores crowded or not if people aren't paying for stuff.
Imagine letting your community and YOUR children get so out of control that not even Walmart is willing to take the losses of dealing with your city...
There was a successful black car dealer in Des Moines Iowa, who wanted to “give back” to the community by building a large grocery store in the ghetto part of town. They thanked him by stealing him blind, until he had to close it as he was near bankruptcy. It was so sad.

Most theft in retail period is from the inside. I have worked a few retail positions in my life time. It's easier for Walmart to close stores in poorer areas first to cut cost. But believe it, them suburban stores getting robbed too. They stay stocked better than hood marts.

@@donneysimpson8536 I've worked retail for 23 years, 14 of those years in LP. Every store I've worked at has spouted that complete nonsense about most theft being internal. It's a load of bullsh1t and not even REMOTELY true. The myth is propped up by 2 things. 1. Most LP employees at these retailers are unsupervised the majority of the time and spend an absurd amount of time either texting on their phone, watching videos, sleeping etc. So the majority of shoplifters are walking in, stealing and walking out the door all while the LP employee is doing just about anything but working. 2. In terms of internal cases, at least 2/3rds are employees getting caught stealing food for their break. Occasionally an employee will get caught stealing much larger amounts. But those large cases are the exception.
And I've worked in both small town and inner city stores. It's not even close to compare the 2. In suburb stores we'd consider an average week to be about 10 cases. In the city stores? 10 A DAY was normal.

I must add more. In my Walmart that shut down last year, every single time I bought anything, the man at the exit checking shoppers items to make sure people was not stealing, always checked my items thoroughly. It never failed. I was buying dog and cat food. He was black and I am white. I came from the checkout area so he should have known I had paid for mine but black customers were not being stopped even when they were leaving the store with TVs in their cart and they had not gone through the checkout. To me it was an inside job where the guy that was hired to prevent theft was actually helping theft happen. I called him out on it every time. I said to him it looks like you are targeting a paying white customer and you are not even stopping your own kind who did not come from a checkout. He just laughed and said it is random and I said if it was random I would not be checked every time. When they first opened they realized there was a large theft problem. It started out as a 24 hour full size state of the art Walmart and within the first month they decided to remodel it to being 60% smaller so they could handle the thievery and then only had the store open 8 AM to 10 PM. Very inconvenient with checkout lines full all day. Most of the shopping trip was standing in line. They still could not make money with the thievery so it shut down. You can thank the so called "brothas" and "sistas" for thinking Walmart is the free store.

Problem with that is . ... in our state there is a dollar limit for shoplifting crimes between a misdemeanor and a felony charge, so the criminals know just how much they can steal for a misdemeanor charge if caught. Then they return next day and steal again. It's a cycle that never stops. The limit needs to be anything above $.01. Stealing is stealing. A thug thief is a thug thief. The mentality has been dictated by the dollar limits stolen and that's ridiculous !

The reality is these stores have been theft magnets and have been losing money for years. Companies like Walmart just can't afford to subsidize these stores anymore.
Walmart still has stores in Chicago because of security such as having a block long single access point driveway before entering the parking lot and having several security guards at the store entrance.
Loot stores daily and then blame the stores for closing.
If you live a BLM lifestyle, you need to be ready to accept the consequences of living that lifestyle.
It's easy Mark. When the store sells $1 million worth of merchandise, but your little nephews and nieces, uncles, cousins, and so forth steal $2 million worth of merchandise, you lose money.

Denial, or making excuses, of the fact that shoplifting is extreme in black neighborhoods is the reason it has gotten to the point of store closings.
Yep. I've had a CVS, and a Walgreens within a couple of blocks both close, for that reason. Now the nearest Pharmacy/Drug store is easily another 10-15 minutes out now.

Go to the Walmart in Lincolnwood, and it always looks like a tornado hit the aisles, stuff thrown all over, merchandise laying on the floor, empty shelves, and kids playing with toys.. I'm not surprised at all, People stealing, and nobody stops them. I don't blame the store at all.
I live in Lincolnwood. The one you're talking about is considered skokie. They aren't closing. The one Lincolnwood location is the pick up drop off center near planet fitness that's closing.

Other stores in Portland should be saying the same thing. Target? Kohl's? What other big box stores are having these "shoplifting" issues. In my opinion I think the potential unionizing efforts is the reason stores are closing in Portland. Shoplifting is the reason they present to the public.
