- Part of the 'Letters Live' event at the Hay Festival 2014. Recorded in the Tata Tent on 31st May 2014. Benedict Cumberbatch and Louise Brealey read letters between WWII lovers Chris and Besse. This letter is taken from the book 'To the Letter' by Simon Garfield
This was the second of two pairs of letters they read. In these letters Chris and Besse have met up for the first time, obviously had a 'good time' (as Benedict's reaction indicates at the start!!)and they begin to make future plans together. (apparently Chris and Besse went to Bournemouth - see part 1 for why that's funny!) Stick with it to the end - they skip off hand in hand!!
This was the fourth letter Benedict read and the fourth letter Louise read of the Letters Live event on this day.
So sorry its a bit wobbly at times but the chairs were quite rocky!

omg when Louise smiles at the end of the letter she's so awfully cute!!!! And them skipping away together is really not helping - I ship them even more now
And, hand-in-hand, they skip away into the sunset. Darlings!
That moment in the end when he offers his hand to her...I think I might be on the verge of shipping them even more now than I did before XD. Thanks for posting this :D

GODS they're both so good. Benedict of course is a consummate actor, he has SUCH a broad range and is quite thrilling to watch. Louise I feel has been overlooked and underrated, she's just so good, there's so much subtlety and nuance in her performances. I adore her.
The letters hold such passion, it is wonderful to have them read by such amazing actors, they portray the feelings so well, I absolutely love this.
eternally grateful to you for recording and sharing these videos for those of us who live half a world away and could not attend. Fantastic readings and how these two talented actors with great chemistry brought the words to life. Oh and so cute how Benedict and Loo held hands and skipped off the stage like two young lovers

Thank you for performing a public service in so beautifully recording and sharing this Sherlolly encounter. I wonder if Louise was thinking about Ben's hand in her shirt during that last part. She certainly looked like she was enjoying the tease. And the skipping at the end, OMG! Ben's childlike and fearless spontaneity is so endearing.
