Hiran Minar (The Deer Tower) is an early 16th-century Mughal era complex located in Sheikhupura, in the Pakistani province of Punjab.
The complex was built at the site of a game reserve in honor of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's beloved antelope named Mansraj. The Emperor is remembered for his fondness of nature, and his complex embodies the Mughal relationship between humans, pets, and hunting.
The Hiran Minar complex is located in the city of Sheikhupura, about 40 kilometers northwest of Lahore. The complex is located near the Sheikhupura Fort, which also dates from the early 17th century. Both sites are accessible from Lahore via the M2 Motorway, which connects Lahore to the Islamabad.
Hiran Minar was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in a hunting reserve used by the Mughal royals. The reserve was built in a scrub forest, and allowed Mughal emperors to experience a sense of semi-wilderness near the imperial city of Lahore.[6] The wild-reserve was used as a park where visitors could enjoy the sport of hunting. The minaret itself was built in 1606 C.E. as a monument to Emperor Jahangir's beloved pet antelope, Mansiraj, or "Lord of All Animal Beings". The practice of building such tomb-markers over the skulls of game animals is an ancient Persian custom.
The minaret and tank were soon accompanied by a larger pavilion, built during the reign of Shah Jahan. The complex consists of a Jahangir-era minaret situated next to a larger Shah Jahan-era complex. The Jahangir-era minaret stands 110 meters tall, and was built in 1606 C.E. as a tomb marker for the emperor's pet antelope, Minraj. The sides of the minar are inscribed with a eulogy to the pet antelope.
A massive rectangular water-tank pool measuring 229 meters by 273 meters lies at the heart of the complex. At the center of each side of the tank, a brick ramp slopes down to the water, providing access for wild game that were sought by hunters.
An octagonal pavilion built during the reign of Shah Jahan is at the center of the pool. The pavilion is two-storeyed, and is topped by a rooftop chhatri that served as a stone gazebo. The pavilion's architecture is similar to the Sher Mandal at Delhi's Purana Qila, built by Emperor Humayun.
The pavilion was surrounded not only by the water tank, but also semi-wilderness. The pavilion was thus likely used for recreational purposes. A causeway spans the pool to connect the minaret with the pavilion along an axis which passes through a gateway.
Unique features of this particular complex are the antelope's grave and the distinctive water collection system. At each corner of the tank (approximately 750 by 895 feet in size), is a small, square building and a subsurface water collection system which supplied the water tank; only one of these water systems is only extensively exposed today.

I am Sheikhupura Resident ,,, Dear 3 things to mention in your vlog for amendment ,,, Hiran menar number of Stairs are NOT 100 ,,,, They are 101 to be Exact ,,,,, Second thing is the Statue of Manis Raj is Now at Lahore Fort museum ,,,,, 3rd thing Hight of Hiran minar is same from very first day till today ,,, Never been 20 feet excessive ,,,Now Little more from my side ,,,, 4 Rooms on 4 corners of pool are Guard rooms ,,,, Room at the entrance of Bara dari is also Guard room . I had climbed the Minar so many times , I did not Remember the Numbers ,,, you had not physically gone to the Top of Hiran Minar ,, Door is closed forever as some one made Sueside from top of Minar ,,, If you had been there,,, Than of course you had counted the Stairs , It is 101 ,,, And the Roof top minar is fully intact there are NO signs of Repair ... It is Marvelous piece of Architecture ,,, I had been to this Place ,,, In the Sunrise ,, Dawn ,, At full moon night ,, At Rainy day ,, Full Heated day at 12 am in June ,,, I had been there at July August days when there is No Air flowing around ,,, At full moon night ,,, Pool become a plate made of Silver ,, And Bara Dari is Lighten up Automatically .. 4 Ghats on Pool have 2 purposes ,,1st kings elephants take bath and other wild animals came to drink water ,,2nd purpose Air enters through these Ghats into pool surface ,, and the Bara dari becomes natural air conditioned even when there is no Air in July and August . You have done a very beautiful illustration. Now I'm starting to regret why I didn't go up. I was a guest of the same department that looks after this entire project. Their officials had also offered, but I apologized, which I am regretting now.
Actually I came to Sheikhupura for a few hours and after that I had to go to the fort. For this reason only drone footage was taken and nothing else was done. There was no place to stay in Sheikhupura, otherwise I might have seen the night scene.
The suicide incident was known to me, but when you speak verbally, knowing something leaves your mind. Same thing happened to me.
If life lasts, I will come again sometime.

@@zulfiqargilani There is much more that the Department did not know , For example ,, Bara Dari Have concrete filled (RCC lenters) roofs on first and second floor ,,, Technology was not ever used before this very construction by Mughals at any other construction site. I have visited this place in 1999 .and spend the whole day there .It is the best architectural example of Mughal dynasty.Still i have its pictures with me as a good memory of that place.
