Hi Doodle, this looked like great fun, and nice to see Lali along side, keeping you amused, she's such a bundle of fun! It's a shame the speedo wasn't working, probably a legal requirement. I like the look of the Ninja, but I wondered how much of the engine noise is reflected up by the fairing! It was clear you were having fun on this light weight, and not only were you flat footing, your knees were bent too. There's a lot going for these smaller bikes, as they can increase the fun factor, great for town and traffic, and much easier to handle. Great to see Future Doodle chipping in with all the essential info, like a real pro. I'd like to see you ride this type of bike on your mountain rides, to see if you have as much fun as you do with your Triumph. Fun, has to be high on the list!

We just got a 2020 Z400 to be the wife’s starter bike, and I’m quite enjoying it. Bit of a change from the Street Triple, but a fun little bike that I would place squarely in the “Goldilocks Zone” for new riders: Not too much power, but can pull over 100 (indicated) if desired.
I was also impressed with the smooth airflow at speed on this bike, and at 6’, do not find it at all cramped. I’m unsure if the Ninja 400 has the same ergos as the Z, though.

    • @WDGFE
      @WDGFE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I forgot to add the one tiny little niggle is a bit of buzz in the seat at highway speeds. I’m unsure if this is typical for this model, or if there might be a slight TBI imbalance between cylinders.

A week ago,I sat on a new Kawasaki 400 Ninja and was immediately impressed with just how light and agile it seemed just sitting there.
The ergonomics on this bike was a perfect fit.
Very impressive fit and finish too.
I'm really liked the short handlebars and the way they were set up to not tip your head completely down on the bike.
Hard to walk away without trying to buy one.
I am more leaning to a 650 though because of the highway miles cruising thing.
    But fantastic little motorcycle.
Riding this would feel like flying ,even at low speeds because it would go wherever you wanted it to ,with almost no effort.
A natural parking lot fun bike.
What a great fun little motorcycle.
Nice review Doodle ,sad to see that display was not working.

My only hang up is that I’m a taller rider at 6’2 and this bike is physically too small for me. Surprised Speedometer didn’t work. Easy fix but embarrassing for Kawasaki. I have a 2021 Z400 and love it as my first bike. 45 h 2015 hp 0-60 4.2 , objectively faster than Yamaha mt or yxf 300 class. But Yamaha 3 or Honda 500 would be my other choices. KTM 390 duke too but not as reliable and too vibey as you mentioned. Even euro bros agree with 2015 data . Japanese bikes are the leaders in reliability. That is the trade off, not an issue in controversy. In my humble opinion. Your channel rocks noodle!

Why does the dash show only 0zero miles per hour and only 4th gear? Is it a damaged bike or a bike with that +1tooth mod that damages the cluster? 😮😢

Doodle, It’s really obvious you loved riding the Kawasaki Ninja 400. Too bad the Speedometer wasn’t working. I know I’ve said before but your enthusiasm comes through in your videos. At 5’ 3,75” you are closer to 5’4” than 5’3”.

Hate to be "that guy", but do you roll off the throttle while changing gears up to six. Blip on the way down, but not up......Great video, I own a Ninja 400....love it! I've ridden bigger CC bikes in the past (Fireblade 954 and a VTR1000SP2) but the Ninja 400 seems to evoke a bigger emotional reaction. I'm 5 foot 4 but I put a touring windscreen on my Ninja (way better). And the Ninja 400 is plenty fine on the highway.....has plenty of pull (just shift down/twist and GO!.

I looked at the Ninja 400 but decided to buy bigger carbs for my 1971 Honda CB350 twin instead

You need to compare the motorcycles power output relative to the weight. Power to wight ratio then we can have insight on the performance. Thanks

I came here via link from your Grom review - which I'll admit I skipped because I've seen some awesome trickster videos of stuff people do on Groms - FUN! I realize this is Patreon-level interaction (I'm saving for my next bike or sailboat or SCUBA gear?, sorry 🥴) Anyway, the question MOST people have who aren't familiar with bikes - heck - even my brother, who knows a lot about engines, but hasn't had a motorcycle since 1980... "Is this bike big enough for the highway?" But to answer that, people really need to think about their commute / intended use (can I get away with not buying a car???? *).
...short runs on a highway, maxing the engine out OR really busy freeway with lots of exchanges where going in the slow lane is dangerous because people are constantly merging in and out through that lane, OR more than 30 minutes over 60mph? Of course, there are reasons to love a bigger engine (omg - my first freeway merge on a Speed Triple loaner!!!), but for many people, it's a question of budget and what's the smallest engine I can get away with? The food delivery guys around here are on 125cc bikes - just fine for suburban roads. Most people want to know about a possible commute bike - it would be nice to show some varying traffic conditions, and why you'd want a particular size - mostly what I'm thinking about is the dangerous, constantly merging slow lane - you probably have some freeway locations in Atlanta that are like that to illustrate why in those conditions you are more likely to get killed in the "slow lane", and if you're going to survive commuting, you really want to avoid those heavy-merging lanes (the irony of "fast lane is safest"?)
*I haven't owned a car since 1998 - but I've lived in places with great public transit systems and occasionally rent. I put 85,000 miles on my 1998 BMW F650 and was sad to sell it (due to moving across an ocean). TBH my current KLR is much better on gravel, but I'm not on gravel enough 😢
