  • How to draw an African Elephant - part 7 finishing touches
    In this part of drawing an African Elephant I will add the last bits of texture and detail to the Elephant's ear as well as building darker tones to add contrast. I will also show how to draw the detail on the Elephant's tusk and finish the background to create the effect of dust. As a wildlife artist I always feel it is important to try to capture the animal's character.

    Do you use a fixative when you have finished?

    • @JamieBoots
      @JamieBoots  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I personally never use a fixative as I feel that it changes the look of the picture. What I do now is when a picture is finished, I will cover it with a sheet of glassine paper to protect it until it is framed. Hope this was helpful and thank you for watching.

      Personally, I prefer graphite pencil as I feel it gives me moe control and it is less prone to getting smudged but this is purely personal choice.

    Hi from Australia watched and enjoyed all videos ... am i able to scale down the drawing

    • @JamieBoots
      @JamieBoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maree,
      I always find it best to work on a picture the same size as the reference photograph as I find it much easier to visually judge proportions, so personally I would re-scale the reference. However, there are also other methods that you can use. A grid system can be used to re-scale the image for example using a smaller grid on the reference with a larger grid for the drawing to scale up or vice versa. The disadvantage of using a grid is that you would then have to remove it and it could leave visible lines. Sometimes I will print a few images off before deciding which size to use as if there is a large amount of detail in a subject it may want to be a larger picture so as to get the detail to stand out.
      I hope this is useful. Please feel free to ask me any other questions as I am happy to help. Thank you for watching and commenting. Jamie
