Pet Portraiture in Graphite - Hair Texture

  • Textures such as hair and fur can really add depth to a picture so in this video of Pet Portraiture in Graphite I show the technique I use to create realistic looking hair by indenting texture into the paper and then applying graphite pencils over the top.

    Stunning! I can’t wait to see this one develop! Thank you for sharing your process, I haven’t seen anyone use techniques like yours! I was signed up for your workshop at the TWASI exhibition, I was gutted when it was cancelled! 😞

    do you work in graphite only? or mixing with charcoal?

      Some people do mix charcial and graphite but I prefer to just use graphite on its own.

    Do you do coloured portraits or just graphite?

      I've done a couple of pieces that are a lot less detailed and more contemporary style but graphite is my main medium of choice.
