Donna was kept from the bad press by people she trusted. They meant well, as they thought no one would believe that Donna Summer was homophobic because it was so absurd. Donna Summer was shocked and saddened when she volunteered to perform at an AIDS benefit and they said, we don't want her. I worked with Donna on three projects around the time, and when I saw her in tears on the news announcing the lawsuit, I felt terrible. It was really difficult to see her cry. The next day, I called her house, but she was out with her business people and attorneys, but I spoke to Mimi, her eldest daughter, and Mimi said they were all very upset about it, and it was an emotional thing for Donna. I told Mimi just to tell her that I called, and that I wanted her to know that she is very much loved. The last time Donna saw her dear friend Paul Jabara (who wrote Last Dance, the Main Event, It's Raining Men, No More Tears- Enough is Enough, and so much more) before he died from AIDS complications, I saw her immediately afterward. She walked in and kissed me on the lips (Like a Mom would do, but it surprised me) and gave me a big hug. I then asked her assistant, "What's wrong? I can tell there is something wrong" and that's when I was told they had just come from Paul Jabara's house and Donna went into his bedroom, shut the door, and spent a couple of hours alone with him. She loved him like a brother and they had spent a lot of time together in the good old days at Casablanca. She also said that her favorite song to sing was Last Dance because when she sang it she felt he was near to her. Donna told me that she lost a lot of friends to AIDS, the most beautiful men you could know - so beautiful inside and out, truly gorgeous men. I know she sang at the funeral for a friend whose brother had died from AIDS complications. I have also been to her church and knew her pastor and his wife, and everyone who worked there were really nice people. I had to go there on an errand for business and I was dressed a little wild that day (and with my long hair, which Donna loved) when I walked into the pastor's office, but no one even blinked. Just the kindness that one should be able to expect from people who are truly Christian as Jesus taught-- do not judge the soul of anyone, and the command to love ALL of your neighbors and even your enemies. Too many pastors preach hate and some even are for the death penalty for gay people. Donna's church people were nothing like that- quite the opposite, and her pastor had been criticized by those big-name TV preacher grifters, fearmongers, and hate provocateurs. Donna has also had a gay attorney for practically her entire career and he likely still is an attorney for her estate. I sat next to him at a TV show taping and he was with a younger boyfriend. Donna didn't care if you were straight, gay, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, green, purple, green or chartreuse. She loved everyone, but she especially liked people who were talented, and people who could make her laugh. She was hilarious herself.
Thanks for sharing this. Do you have Facebook or Instagram? I would love to chat with you personally and hear more about your relationship with Donna .
Just left a video where Donna’s supposedly anti LGBT stance was mentioned in the comments section. I remember her taking out time on national television to put an end to this rumor. I was surprised to hear she had been accused but proud of her for standing up and defending her self. I got the privilege of seeing her perform late in her comeback career. She was kind loving and accepted everyone. I am glad this video is on here so maybe people well look for the truth. She was the Queen of Disco and I’ll always remember her for this.
I was in my early 20's when 'Another Place And Time' was released. There were a few club DJ's who refused to play the singles, or any of Donna's music, and it was then that I first heard about the rumours. Sadly, this followed her the rest of her life. Anyone who ever defended the rumour, I always asked, "Show me a video, let me hear an audio tape, show me a review in print with the quotes she was attributed to." No one can ever offer up proof. It's always, "I heard she said, my friend said she said..." No proof. Donna is my number one diva, always was, always will be.
her 1989 hit was the most radio play she received since 1983. it was played on radio a lot and was one of the last great songs of the 1980s before the music died.
She was a bigot period . She profited hugely from the gay community then turned on them . My mother adored gay men ( not me , her son ) HOWEVER , she secretly dispised their “ wickid lifestyles “ She clearly is lying and contined to lie .
@@user-wk2qp8cp8x It was a comment made as a joke. Donna LOVED her gay fans and had no issues with them and her closest friends were gay, Elton John Paul Jabara. I wonder if you’ve ever made a joke and it was taken out of context? Stop projecting your insecurities on others and maybe start working on loving and accepting yourself
The entertainment industry, journalists and record companies did not protect Irene Cara and Donna Summer two of the most amazing artist in the 70s and 80s.
Sadly, we have the entire Donna Summer timeline. Outside of this highly questionable speculation of a conversation taken out of context, where have you seen Donna speak about anyone or anything in a negative manner. She almost trips over herself trying to stay eternally positive. If she’s guilty of anything, it was a joke made on stage that if you knew the context of, wouldn’t have caused as much controversy. Look at her life, it speaks volumes against negativity of this period.
Donna Summer is THEE POP SINGER ‼ The rumours were not true. I remember watching her press conference on TV when she was at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills. She sued New York magazine and settled out of court and won. She is still my most favorite female singer that recorded music. She is the most Versatile female singer that ever recorded music. I can't wait to see her documentary on May 20th, 2023 on HBO.
Yes......I agree. She is the most versatile........people need to listen to her entire albums, not just the singles. The albums show just how versatile she really was. And the different voices she used, depending on the character of the song, were really extraordinary !! Can't wait to see the documentary also.
@@deewoo2776 Yes.......I'm really looking forward to it !! And if you want to hear Donna changing her voice to fit the character of different songs, check out......"Whispering Waves" on the album, "Love To Love You Baby", "The Wanderer" on the album, "The Wanderer", "Eyes" on the album, "Cats Without Claws", "Cry Of A Waking Heart" on the album, "Mistaken Identity" and "Slide Over Backwards" on the album, "Crayons." All different voices, all different characters, all different styles of music !!
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 oh yeah I listen to all of those songs. I have her entire collection and some hard to find recordings as well. I have been a fan of Donna Summer since 1976 when I was 13 years old. I have attended to 33 of her concerts over the years and I was fortunate and lucky to meet her once backstage in 2005. One song you didn't mention was Grand Illusion from the Wanderer album. Now that's a character's voice. Also today is the anniversary of her passing 11 years ago May 17, 2012. Enjoy the documentary on May 20th 2023 which is also my birthday. I'll be 60 years young. This will be the best birthday gift ever is to see the documentary. Take care. Be well.
@@deewoo2776 Yes.....you are right !! Another great "character" in a song. I met Donna backstage at a concert around that time also. It was at the Gibson Amphitheatre (Universal Amphitheatre) and I'm ashamed to say that my friend and I snuck into the meet and greet without being authorized. Haha. Like I was saying in a chat with another person on here, I do believe that Donna had issues with gays in the 80s. But as time went on, I think her views and feelings evolved. I was quite surprised to read Giorgio Moroder admitting to her dislike of gays in an interview he did with SPIN magazine about a year after she passed away.
If you're someone who has been accused of supposedly saying something that you didn't say, then you understand her. If you're somebody who has never had that happen to you, then you're not likely to understand her, but you could. I hope this issue is in the upcoming documentary.
I have been accused of "saying things", that I've never said, and no matter what you try to do to defend yourself, people have deaf ears. Guilty until proven innocent. It sucks, and I could totally relate to what Donna was saying. I was DJ-ing in the clubs when Donna was just getting started, and I played all of her tunes. When Billboard Magazine, (which I was a reporter for), voted Gloria Gaynor the Queen of Disco in 1979, I almost crapped a brick. I thought, is Billboard out of their minds? Donna Summer was, the quintessential Queen of Disco. I was so sad when she passed. Such a talented lady with a good soul.
@@RandyOnTheRadio Your story is very interesting because I grew up listening to Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, but " I will survive " was labeled the gay anthem. Maybe it was purposefully to drag Donna Summer. Because Donna is the undisputed Queen of Disco. And the gay community was angry with her. Just saying
@@jaiyabyrd4177 Ahhh, but the gay folks weren't pissed at Donna in 1979, when BB said Gaynor was the Queen of disco. That didn't happen until later. The music industry, as a whole , is a back-stabbing entity. Like I said, I worked in it.
I believe Donna had her own convictions and beliefs and that she did NOT say those ugly things about LGBT. Somebody had it out for her like a laser back then...smh
I really think she DID say that. You must remember that she became a born-again Christian, and her words were very typical of such folks, especially back then. Even one of the men she worked with then confirmed her bible-thumping attitude after Donna died. Her disapproval was pervasive in those days, so she was not out of step with the masses. Oh, well. I think she did regret it and apologized.
No, no, no. You didn't know Donna! She absolutely loved gay people and when someone is famous they have all kinds of lies written about them I happened to meet Donna several times and asked her about this..She told me all she ever said was jokingly said was God made Adam and eve not Adam and Steve. She was poking fun at her gay fans! That's all. Just because someone becomes a Christian doesn't mean they hate gays! Any one who knew Donna knows that would she wouldn't say what they said did ! Ridiculous!
@@jbak87 She SAID I Did Not SAY THOSE THINGS BECAUSE I Don't BELIEVE That So Your ACCUSING DONNA OF BEING HATEFUL and OF LYING ABOUT IT To Her FANS? Who Are You To Say she said something she swore she never said and never would say it because she Didn't BELIEVE That WAY She Didn't BELIEVE AIDS Was GOD PUNISHING GAY People WHY WOULD She LIE LYING IS A SIN
Gay people were Donna's main fan base why would she say this to her core fan base? Christian or not. It makes no sense she would lose money, and fans and her reputation. This rumor about her saying AIDS was a divine intervention from God as a form of punishment or another proves that those who make you can break you. Because Donna was called a man by the gay community. So its so strange, to me.
The interviewer at 5:00 is AWESOME! She really asked some very direct questions and gave Donna an opportunity to to say her side. Liked it because it was direct, not soft-ballish yet very fair.
Does anyone that's spreading that rumor realize that those ribbons that we all wear were made in honor of the songwriter Paul Jabara that wrote last Dance for Donna, as well as co - writing many other songs for Donna? Also the fact that she sued the magazine that started to spread that rumor and they settled and paid her out of court for lots of money which she donated to HIV prevention and research? It's sad how people overlook that. I also think there was a racist component to her being blackballed as well as something to do with David Geffen who helped perpetuate that rumor.
I don't believe she made those quotes.I think she said her opinion on the disease AIDS.To me she said something, and someone took her out her context, and put words that she did not say.I don't think Ms Summers made those quotes, she embraced the Gay Community, and was very respectful of her fans.
Who's here in 2024❓ 🔥WOW the gay community wanted exceptance but was horribly mean-spirited, misogynistic and racist by labeling a beautiful Black Lady a man 9:36 & 13:07
Because of how the Bible is written we think of God as some emotional jealous vengeful human being.an all powerful entity,I think,is not going to be jealous of the beings he created or seek revenge for something.the Bible made God appear to much as a flawed human.
God is a loving heavenly father he does not give people illness and sickness etc this is a lie, Jesus his son stands with his arms open wide to anyone who is willing to repent
This is refreshing to see, and great research to assemble this. As a longtime Donna fan, though, I still would like to see two more things: (1) The full "at the podium" press conference denouncing the rumors, and (2) the end result of her libel suit against New York magazine. Did she win? Was it settled out of court? What was the end result of that?
Hello and thank you for the compliment. I tried to be as thorough as I could with what I found in various interviews. Like yourself, I would love to see the entire press conference. I looked all over for it, but could not find it. I believe the case was settled out of court with neither side being allowed to divulge the details. To me, that seems like Donna ended up winning some dollar amount. Two quick things.........through my research, I believe I narrowed down the date of the original "Village Voice" article (that started this whole thing) to June 22, 1983. Here are a few links to some eye witnesses that were at a few concerts.......www.donna-tribute.com/articles/99/wrongly.html and www.gayinthe80s.com/2012/06/25/1983-donna-summer-homophobe/image-2/. On the second link, put Donna Summer in the search engine right under "Sorry, no such page" to read eye witness accounts.
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 - Thank you for the detailed comment above. I am a historian, and have one piece of the puzzle here. I have a copy here of an article in The Village Voice dated July 5, 1983, titled "Donna Summer After the Ball." Writer was Jim Feldman. This was his article opener, verbatim: "Donna Summer made an incredibly rude, gratuitous, and lame antigay crack during her show at Resorts International in Atlantic City June 20 (1983)--you know, "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." Then she added, "But I love you anyway." Well, thanks loads, Donna. I suppose her born-again status is responsible for her sanctimony, but her mean-spirited homophobia was particularly inappropriate because without us, Donna Summer wouldn't be playing anything in Atlantic City but the slots." Wow. There is a second article, I believe from the Orlando Sentinel, that talks of a similar incident at a Florida concert. (I had cut that one out, too, but cannot find it at the moment.) Then the rumor gained momentum, and at some point (not sure of the date) the notorious New York Magazine article was published, for which she sued for libel. People began dying of AIDS (then called GRID) in 1981; it made the cover of Newsweek in the Summer of 1984. So Donna's claim that she didn't know what it was or that it killed people is more plausible if she said it before 1984. I personally saw people throwing eggs at marchers in the Gay Pride Parade in New York City from the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral, egged on by notorious homophobe Cardinal O'Connor. That was the zeitgeist of New York City at the time, with people attending daily funerals. That was the world writer Jim Feldman circled in, which may explain - but not justify - why he got so ticked off by a poor joke that she said on stage during her concert. It's all history now, including her.
@@sensationsmag Thanks, again, for your response. I would love to see those actual write ups in The Village Voice and The Orlando Sentinel. I may have to contact my local library and go through their microfilms. I live in Los Angeles.....so there should be copies, especially The Village Voice. It seems as though the Village Voice article started the whole thing in July of 83. Then it seems that the Florida incident (people staying after the concert) happened later on that year around Nov of 83. Then maybe the Orlando Sentinel article right after that. Donna addresses the Florida incident (without mentioning it was in Florida) during the interview I have posted with Jacobs Stege. Then the New York magazine lawsuit came in Oct of 1991 after they printed that story. Here's something you may find interesting and it kind of shocked me that Giorgio admitted this...........www.spin.com/2013/05/giorgio-moroder-daft-punk-donna-summer-interview-2013/. There is a section where he talks about Donna in the 80s and his words were that "she really did not like gays". I was surprised he made this admission. May I ask......did you find The Village Voice And Orlando Sentinel articles on-line ? If so, could you direct me to them ? I've been looking, but can't find either. Newspapers.com is an excellent source.
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 - I had cut out copies of both articles in 1983, and kept them all these years. I have the VV one here. Can't find the other at the moment. After his opening diatribe, Jim Feldman went on to write a surprisingly fair and balanced review of Donna's music and concert for the balance of the article.
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 - Also, it's very likely Donna did not like gays, as Moroder said, during a certain time period, right around her born-again conversion. She certainly would not have been thrilled with them when they began banning her records, tossing her collections, etc. Yet she eventually came around, including taking part in some fundraisers for gay causes. If Donna hated gays later in life, there is no way she would have done the duet with Prince Poppycock on American Idol (which you can see on youtube). I believe Moroder is referring to a very narrow period of her life, likely 1983 to 1993 or so.
Donna Summer a lovely person we believe her she loved gay people we have all been guilty of knowing what AIDS was and it's not a gay disease any one can catch it. ❤❤❤
what was the name of the song that was "written 5 years ago" which would be in 1986 that allegedly was an apology? i never heard about these accusations until the mid 1990s.
This seems like it was a jealous hit job to damage her brand and career. But it was Geffen Records poor single release and promotion that stalled her in the 80’s ultimately. Every time she stepped away from them she had a smash hit doing that era.
The rumor came later in France as in the rest of the world I guess and I didn't believe a word of it. This threw the suspission away for many years. This disease was cruel for the gays and they are right to denounce the bad actions towards the community when they are proven. I don't think she was stupid for saying that, it would have been like shooting herself in the foot. She must have suffered because an artist needs to be loved in order to give to others. I always had confidence in the values she carried in her and I didn't feel rejected. I deeply regret his passing and I continue to listen to his music and love his beautiful person. With love.
In the German interview part - it sounds like she and the gay guy she was talking with at the time were having a "bitchy gay moment" that anyone who knows the community would know and appreciate.
It's interesting that she does talk about "something" going down after the concert and "we said things back and forth to each other". Never saw that clip before. I personally think in the heat of the back and forth she did say it. And regretted it either sincerely or for financial/career reasons. I don't buy the whole thing about not knowing AIDS could kill people etc. By the time it was actually called AIDS everybody knew it could be deadly. If the incident had happened in this era someone would have recorded it all on thier cellphone that's for sure.
I believe she said it. May she rest in peace… I totally believe she DID say it, and then wanted to do damage control AFTER it was said, AND after the infection started to take lives.. also when she copped to the truth here it was with an interviewer outside the US.. notice that.
I guess she might not have been against the homosexuals, blatantly. However, fairly speaking, she was not a big fan of homosexuals either. I do not blame her, considering the time and background of her upbringing. Don't be too hard on the older generations, with a whole different conception about the homosexuality. Some may learn to embrace it today but not all of them could cope with it.
It is kind of a weird idea that a disco icon and former stage performer would hold anti-gay sentiments, but then again born again folks are known for being a zealous bunch.
@@romerjusu3804 Incorrect. She had great success after signing to Geffen Records. David hired Stock Aiken Waterman to produce an album for the label. Upon listening to the final product, he hated it, refused to release it and dropped her from the label.
No not zealous. Christians believe all sexual sin is judged by God just like fornication and Adultery. The Pharisees said Moses gave them the bill of divorcement but Christ answered in the beginning God created them one man for one woman. Now in the end We all will stand before God to be Judged. It's what God says that is right. But Heaven or Hell depends not on your sin because we all sin including christians it depends on have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour. That's what we will be judged on .
To say all of one sort of people feel the same way is silly/untrue. All Wht ppl/all Blk ppl/all strght ppl/all gay ppl/all variety’s of religious ppl do not all think/believe the same.
I was first introduced to her music in 1976. I fell instantly in love with her sound. Her voice, the music. The energy of it. It was like nothing I'd heard before. Last Dance blew my sox off. And then, On the Radio & Yesterday. I realized she wasn't like other Disco Queens. However, some of them were amazing! The ones who were really in it. Like Champaign-King. She was probably my first foray into the genre. Gloria Gaynor was another one who didn't really make it out ot the Disco crash. The day Disco died was TRAGIC for me. I loved the genere. I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to kill it. But Donna made it out & still kept her sound. Because she was bigger than Disco! She had music by the balls & she wasn't letting it go either. So when the whole backlash came I was devastated first of all because I was newly "in the life." Donna was everything to us. So when the story came out we were all in shock. Because it was the reporting on that initial story that was so brutal. The more we heard, the worse the story got. I have to say that I never believed it & defended her, like it would have done any good. There were many of us who did. Gay men. We knew they were trying to take her down for being a Christian, which I was also. So life was very strange for someone like me at that time. I was called "a conundrum" a lot. I'm sure she was too. But I think that in the end we loved her more because she didn't give in & give them what they wanted. .They wanted her pound of flesh & she wasn' tgoing to give it to them & she ultimately didn't & had an even deeper relationship with the gay community as a result. She was a force & that is for sure! 😊💞🙏💞😊
Well said! There is unfortunately a portion of the radical gay community that has a hideous intolerance to Christians, including gay Christians and gay conservatives. I stuck with Donna through it all, knowing what a beautiful, loving spirit she had.
Well, she may have said it, she may not have said it but the fact is I'm as gay as can be and I still Ave respect for DS. She was my first icon out if al them as I was born as the fall from the rise of disco began. Ppl have to realize this was well over 40 years ago and you didnt rub your sex life under everyone's noses, there's a time and place. UT's every but as disrespectful for the heteros to throw that in everyones face too. She was a religious woman and that was just the belief that homosexual was against God's law. She should have respected our beliefs but in the same token, we should have always respected. You don't talk to ppl constantly about sex and how you prefer it and you also do not condemn ppl for their sexual references or their religious reliefs, You also don't talk constantly on religious or political beliefs. Steer away from sex, politics and religion and talk about pleasant things only. In other words, keep meal time happy.
Christians love everyone or should. God taught us love. The views of many religions teach was was taught in the Bible. God is right in the end. God judges us all in the end. Sin is sin to God. God said adultery any type of sexual sin is against him and your own self. I want to stand before God forgiven and saved by the blood sacrifice of Jesus. We are all sinners we all fall short of the glory of God. But in the end it is what the Almighty God creator says about what's wrong or right what sin is. Heaven or Hell that will be based on whether or not you accept Jesus Christ as ones Saviour.
I think she did say something, but that it got blown up into more than it was. She isn’t being clear and is honestly rather evasive. She didn’t know what AIDS was or that people died from it at the time?!?! Really?!?! In tributes to her when she died, celebrities could only say very vapid things about her like “She was the Queen of Disco”.
Verbal, non verbal, vibe, demeanor on ALL the interviews all I see/feel is an *honest, super humble, lovely, classy, easy going NON hateful/bigoted woman! SHAME of the a-hole(s) trouble making trolls who went for her! Someone or people were sh!t starters twisted words around and it rapidly spread and went 'viral'. Nowadays, *receipts (HD video, audio etc..) for everything and Donna would successfully sue and highly likely get a meaty settlement.
I remember in the early 80's (1982-1983) reading an article in a gay publication about this, so it started way before 1991. In the article, a person from another gay publication claimed he heard her say, during a concert, that Aids was God's punishment for being gay. He was there to report on the concert, so I believed him. Before that, I had all Donna's records and was a huge fan. That day, based on what I read, I stopped being a fan and never bought another record. It's sad that I'm just now hearing the truth 40+ years later and after her death. I'm sorry, Donna.
I love donna too.for a while it seemed as though donna and diana ross were releasing albums at the same time.i remember putting up the sleeves to the 45s or singles from ross and summer at the same time and then the albums were on the wall next to each other.it was pieces of ice from miss ross and love is in control from miss summer.donna would always put out the most amazing double album sets and every song was excellent, there were no fillers on those album.you didn't have to skip over any song on those albums.
It's very unfortunate. Her entire career took a hard hit starting in 1983. Compared to her earlier success, her later albums largely underperformed. She claims that what the New York Times published wasn't what she actually said. Does anyone know what she did say?
To the day she abruptly passed away she did NOT fully get over this or get the proper apologies from a blatant 'campaign' of a small vocal group of clowns. A malignant rancid rumor & never got over it! 😢 At the most/'worst' something was said in the most benign way! Today, w/out HD receipts & Donna & her legal team would prob. bury these sh*t starters w/ a multi million dollar home run case!

always thought it was some moron confusing Summer with Gloria Gaynor. When Gaynor had her mini Comeback with I Am What I Am, Gaynor, when asked on Boston TV about her gay fans or the songs connection to the gay community via its origins in LA. Age Aux Follles, made comments about loving the sinner but hating the sin. I was just a twelve year old blooming gay and I felt so disgusted by her tone. When I heard that Summer had reportedly said similar, I thought that it was probably a case of someone confusing two black women who were both called The Queen of Disco. Summer always denied making those Adam and Steve comments and the like; Gloria Gaynor not so much.
Greetings from Greece!!! I think it is very possible that something was said during the argument, most likely in the context of a lifestyle of many partners rather than for the actual sexual orientation. It is almost certain it was blown out of proportion and was repeated in misleading and out of context ways. By listening closely to how she describes it, while at the same time seeing and hearing about the type of person she was [it's so difficult to talk about Donna Summer in the past tense], I am convinced she did not mean in any discriminating or judgemental way. Yes, sometimes religious beliefs can overshadow logic or acceptance of simple human traits, but I firmly believe this was not the case here. Donna had always been restrained on comments about public issues and has always been sensitive and respectful to other people's feelings, unique qualities and characteristics. But even in the unlikely even that something was said in that direction, when someone shows honestly and wholeheartedly that they do not actually share that viewpoint and show honest and sincere regret should their comments have been misinterpreted, in my mind it is as if it never happened. So, even in the unlikely event that it did happen, we should keep in mind that we ALL make mistakes and we ALL might say things we don't mean at one point or another or say things that are misinterpreted in an argument and taken the wrong way. Her sadness and emotion about the misunderstanding are sincere and it takes a strong and honest soul to confront it as she did. She will always be remembered for her timeless music legacy but also for being a great individual.
I experienced this kind of thing in the horsey world people making rumours up so know exactly how Donna felt a lot of bad people out there and you know who you are and I know.. 🎉

Thanks for posting this. I have always believed Donna
Thanks for sharing this. Do you have Facebook or Instagram? I would love to chat with you personally and hear more about your relationship with Donna .
This is incredible, thank you for sharing this story.
thank u for this
Friends of mine who knew Donna share the very same sentiments.
Donna Summer LOVED the gay community. I met her twice in LA. She was a wonderful, funny and talented person.
God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve she said that .. end of story..wake up and stop trying to clean it up
She was a bigot period . She profited hugely from the gay community then turned on them .
My mother adored gay men ( not me , her son ) HOWEVER , she secretly dispised their “ wickid lifestyles “
She clearly is lying and contined to lie .
@@user-wk2qp8cp8xwere you there when she said it?
@@user-wk2qp8cp8x It was a comment made as a joke. Donna LOVED her gay fans and had no issues with them and her closest friends were gay, Elton John Paul Jabara. I wonder if you’ve ever made a joke and it was taken out of context? Stop projecting your insecurities on others and maybe start working on loving and accepting yourself
@@LuisDarwin-es4qu Do you feel stupid now that her own family talks about her homophobia in the HBO documentary?
The entertainment industry, journalists and record companies did not protect Irene Cara and Donna Summer two of the most amazing artist in the 70s and 80s.
She was being called trans and got canceled even back then.not only should donna fight back but we should also fight media people who lie to us
Sadly, we have the entire Donna Summer timeline.
Donna Summer is
THEE POP SINGER ‼
The rumours were not true. I remember watching her press conference on TV when she was at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills. She sued New York magazine
and settled out of court and won.
I totally agree. The Bad Girls double album featured different ways of Donna utilizing her vocal talent. Enjoy the documentary
Donna Summer is one of my IDOLS 🌈
I'll never believe that Donna was a homophobic person. However I can also separate someone's personal opinions from their music.
@@RandyOnTheRadio
Your story is very interesting because I grew up listening to Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, but " I will survive " was labeled the gay anthem.

Oh OK
Most of Donna's gay fans stayed with her. I am proudly one of them.
Ridiculous!

So its so strange, to me.
it wasnt true it was all lies she was a lovely christian lady
That French newspaper had lied on several people. Can’t remember their name but they lied so bad and destroyed many lives.
The interviewer at 5:00 is AWESOME! She really asked some very direct questions and gave Donna an opportunity to to say her side. Liked it because it was direct, not soft-ballish yet very fair.
I belive and trust Donna, Only people brain less continue with that rumour.
@8:40 Kelly Rowland’s resemblance here is uncanny
Deidra from salt and pepper better known as spinderella has the most resemblance with out having to be made up
I met kelly and I know Donnas sister Linda. Yes they have not only a facial resemblance but almost height and sense of humor.
She would never have said that about gay men. Anyone who knows Donna knows she was not a cruel or unfeeling person.
I don't believe she made those quotes.I think she said her opinion on the disease AIDS.To me she said something, and someone took her out her context, and put words that she did not say.I don't think Ms Summers made those quotes, she embraced the Gay Community, and was very respectful of her fans.

If God was handing out disease for people who sin, we would all be in big trouble!
God is the creator of life not the destroyer🌺
Because of how the Bible is written we think of God as some emotional jealous vengeful human being.an all powerful entity,I think,is not going to be jealous of the beings he created or seek revenge for something.the Bible made God appear to much as a flawed human.
God is a loving heavenly father he does not give people illness and sickness etc this is a lie, Jesus his son stands with his arms open wide to anyone who is willing to repent
Nothing has changed, only foolish people do and Donna was and still is absolutely correct!
Her documentary clarified the situation. She made the comment and it wasn't received well.
I believe Moroder is referring to a very narrow period of her life, likely 1983 to 1993 or so.
its a rumour started by david geffen who signed Donna to his label
Donna Summer a lovely person we believe her she loved gay people we have all been guilty of knowing what AIDS was and it's not a gay disease any one can catch it. ❤❤❤
what was the name of the song that was "written 5 years ago" which would be in 1986 that allegedly was an apology? i never heard about these accusations until the mid 1990s.
Hello........I believe the song is called "We Are Gonna Win" and you can hear it on TH-cam.
With love.
she loved them
In the German interview part - it sounds like she and the gay guy she was talking with at the time were having a "bitchy gay moment" that anyone who knows the community would know and appreciate.
It's not a german interview, it's dutch. The host is Paul de Leeuw from the Netherlands.
When I heard she supposedly said that I never believed it. If you were a fan of hers then, you would never believe that she would ever say that.
Love Donna. What bothered me was Assinio putting his damn shoes on the couch!
I simply always thought that she came across as too level-headed a person to make statements like that, especially publicly.
I think she stepped in doo doo, and it was really hard to get it off. I'm gay, and I've said what she was accused of.
GOD BLESS YOU DONNA, REST IN PEACE.❤️❤️❤️

It is kind of a weird idea that a disco icon and former stage performer would hold anti-gay sentiments, but then again born again folks are known for being a zealous bunch.
He's the one who started the RUMOR because he was angry about her leaving his record company.
@@Ed-ez8kl Beautiful, loving, and free. There never was a freer spirit. 😉
I totally agree with you Donna Summers

SHAME of the a-hole(s) trouble making trolls who went for her! Someone or people were sh!t starters twisted words around and it rapidly spread and went 'viral'. So beautifil, so talented

It's very unfortunate. Her entire career took a hard hit starting in 1983. Compared to her earlier success, her later albums largely underperformed. She claims that what the New York Times published wasn't what she actually said. Does anyone know what she did say?

always thought it was some moron confusing Summer with Gloria Gaynor.
I hate that she spent the rest of her career explaining this over and over.

This not liar
Religion makes people say things....
So does non-religion.
@@jakeinlove Yes, the truth.
It's not religion alot of people that aren't religious say things like they hate christians and Christianity. Those are ones that are haters
Oh please. Arsenio. Clearly one of the gays flirting with DS😂
They gay community just attacked her because she believed in God
Cher, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Barbra Streisand also believe in God and gays don't attack them.
@@MarcusAndre85 But, have any of them been accused of saying something anti-gay?
@@JimmieJamOfTheDay No. Donna Summer was attacked by the Gay community because she was homophobic not because she believed in God like Ava Washington said.
Where do you get that nonsense, Sherlie Holmes? Why would someone attack anyone for no reason? She said a sick joke about "Adam and Steve" and it turned against herself later on, simple as that.
Donna Summer inspired Madonna btw. @@MarcusAndre85
