Minor correction to Tom's rules explanation around 3:00: if nobody can claim a given animal card it doesn't go straight to the end round. Instead, it just gets pushed back to the next round so players can claim it later. I've had games where a single animal gets pushed back 3 or 4 rounds because 2 players keep competing with each other for it, but keep tying on who has the better habitat.
I got a chance to play this at Tabletop Gaming Live over the weekend - thoroughly enjoyed it. I tend to prefer heavier games, which just makes me a lot more picky when it comes to the lighter stuff, but this I'll be getting a copy of. Flows so well, plenty to think about without much rules overhead. Loved it.
This seems like a super-light version of Year Of The Dragon mechanically. 100% knowledge of the future (this is rare in games) and drafting, but in a less punishing, child-friendly theme. The presentation really helps. Good stuff.
Wow, i was pretty sure that you were going to comment on the gimmick aspect or the box size (looks hugeeee). But you did not, this just show how much you enjoyed the game on top of the seal of excellence! Blue orange productions are just amazing
I know this is listed on the Blue Orange EU site - but when is this coming out in the United States? Can't find anything concrete stating a release date for either region.
I love Photosynthesis both for its looks and gameplay so was excited to see this game coming. I like the globe concept for this game but gameplay seems a bit meh. There are other games with forward thinking but more interesting depth to them. On the fence about getting this.
I played this at Tabletop Gaming Live and while it was a nice experience the limited drafting and fiddly scoring put me off, while I like the long term planning a lot. But yes kingdomino is better for me.
Both are nice, fun and light games. But the fact about the combinations and replaybility is bigger in Planet (for the cards animals and the personal objetive). If you play Photosynthesis frequently it could became the same strategy most of the times.
Tom is wrong! By the end of the review, his tie was definitely NOT broken. It was still hanging perfectly around his neck. That mistake clearly invalidates the whole review and every future occasion, where Mr. Vasel is of a different opinion than me...
How many times do you think you count some terrain double, because you might not rotate the cube correctly? How do you know on which tile you started and by turning the whole cube, you might end up on the same spot again, perhaps even 3 times. People might cheat with this one. Very boring gameplay too, nothing exciting. Don't understand why you would highly recommend this, because you love the pictures of the animals??
Not every game needs to be intense and revolutionary... but I’d like at least something new besides a gimmick. This looks like an easy pass. Just get Kingdomino or one of the other simpler tile laying games. Plus it’ll take up less space in your collection.
This is actually a pretty nice gimmick, and an interesting concept. However, it seems to me it has a really low replayability. Its clever. But it really seems like a pass to me.
You are correct ... a toy doesn't have specific rules on how you are supposed to play with it. A game does. Sooo you are wrong and don't understand the basics of what a game is ... no offense.

Yeah, I am pretty excited to get this. Pretty sure the family will thrive on this idea.

The globe seems nice but it definitely could make it hard to count the terrain you have later in the game...
You mean at the end? Just tear it apart
Just count the top turn it over and do the bottom half. Just don't lose track of the the orientation is all.

Blue orange productions are just amazing
Looks interesting. The MENSA select award will bring people here :)
So what Tom is saying is that to build the best globe, you need to think ahead and "plan it"
Or am I the only one who noticed this?
Insert Picard double face palming here.
I was shocked by the seal of excelence
Game is really good...
This game looks amazing! 👍🏻
Thank you for the nice review! :))
Love your reviews. Thanks!

And Tom just destroyed planet Earth.
I know this is listed on the Blue Orange EU site - but when is this coming out in the United States? Can't find anything concrete stating a release date for either region.
Yes it is. I just got an email from blue orange today (which is why I am here) saying Spring of 2019
We just got a press release today. It'll be releasing on Earth Day this year (April 22).
I love Photosynthesis both for its looks and gameplay so was excited to see this game coming. I like the globe concept for this game but gameplay seems a bit meh. There are other games with forward thinking but more interesting depth to them. On the fence about getting this.
Is it easy to count the sides though? How do you make sure you don't count one side twice?
looking at the cube just count the top rotate it over, count the bottom.
At the end take each piece off and count as you take them off, you have to take them off anyway at the end, why not count then?
Smash that globe ending!
This sounds great. When does it come out?

The whole time i was thinking "where's the rest of the game?" and "when do i get to roll this globe?"
Hanson Yip where the rest of the game Yes, me too. When do i roll, No. Because you’re building something, the earth, i never thought to roll it.
I love this game, it’s really worth it
Spherical Kingdomino without the drafting-- which is what makes Kingdomino fun...
and Kingdomino looks better
But it does have drafting, no?

SDJ 2019 nominee
Looks interesting.
question is this, or Photosynthesis?
They are very different games. Not really an either or question. So why not both?

THIS CAUGHT MY ATTENTION INITIALLY...BUT 3 MINUTES INTO THE VIDEO...I WAS ALREADY YAWNING...DUHHHH

I'm really into family games, but I was expecting more gameplay from this one.
It seems to be a little bit too light for me.
I was about to say this looks like kingdomino, till he mentioned blue orange games
No wonder.

I love Blue Orange but this will be a hard pass for me.

even though earth is flat, this is a cool gimmick. i like origami and this reminds me of the 3d projects ive worked on
This looks soooo.....boring.
I was about to say that.
I guess it's aimed at parents playing with children.
Indeed, yawn again.
Hard pass for me. Thanks for the review!
Nobody cares.
There is a difference between a game and a toy. This is a toy, imho. No offense.
If it's a toy, I think I would beat you at it. :)
You are correct ... a toy doesn't have specific rules on how you are supposed to play with it. A game does. Sooo you are wrong and don't understand the basics of what a game is ... no offense.
Cool looking game, but boy, it's bland...
