I luv this space u share about colours, inner psyche and thought processing. The very essence to creating authentic art that we can call our own, and not heavily influenced by others.
Just brilliant. And the timing is perfect. I adore your big scale explorations - I really need to play on a more expansive scale. So many of us are taught to go small in life - it’s hard to break out of. Thank you so much for all you share, especially your vibrant way of sharing it. You are really precious. Hugs. 💗💗💗
Oh my word! I cannot tell you enough how much I love your art Helen! Your sketchbooks are so beautiful 😍 also how much you have inspired me! 💖 this is a very useful video and yes I have saved it for further reference!
When I share time with you I feel ths it must be the same sensation as visiting a Souk (always had a dream of going) visually exciting and every sense alive. Just seeing these pages make me feel happy like hearing g favourite music on the breeze thank you for sharing..🥳
Helen, I've literally been overdosing on your videos this past week. The joy you bring to them is obviously fuelled by your ongoing journey as an artist as evidenced in your work. Thank you for sharing yourself, your experience, your perspective and your work! So grateful that you're an ongoing part of my feed.
I should add that I have just found you via another artists book review. I have been bingeing (?) your videos. You are fabulous. I will be adding your book to my collection as well.
I get so much joy from your videos Helen! Whenever I am in need of inspiration I seek out your channel as I know that I will leave in a good, motivated state of mind. I am going to let my freak flag fly today! 😂Have a lovely week. ☺
I’m a newbie to painting and your channel. I love your confidence and playful approach. Thank you for sharing! I will sign up for a class as soon as I can.
I loved it thank you!! I just love looking in your sketchbooks, I’m always surprised and delighted even though I rewatch your videos many times over :D. In love your enthusiasm! so inspiring, thank you Helen!!
That was delicious Helen! My favourite part was seeing how you begin a page…I’ve often wondered how you go about it and now we know! Thank you thank you thank you!
I’m going to try a big sketchbook this year! I feel in awe looking at your art when you flip through your sketchbooks. I took Sketchbook Revival last year, and I have finally filled a complete sketchbook with the journal they taught us to make…(56 pages). It was quite an accomplishment for me. Now that you will be one of the teachers this year, I’m really looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us. I should have my new sketchbook by then and my color wheel at the ready. I’m so excited to start. See you in class, Helen!🤗❤️🙋
Your strategy of starting by putting down one colour across the page is so interesting. I'd never thought of working like that but I'm definitely going to try it.
I so enjoyed watching you flip through these colorful as candy sketchbook pages! 🤩 I feel like I’ve been drawn to brighter and bolder colors during the gray days of winter- I’m in Ohio and it’s often a bluish gray hue this time of year and I long for lots of color😌🌈
It is so timely and helpful, I am working on exploring colour schemes at the moment, so thank you very much Helen! It would be also very interesting to learn your approach to mixing and muting colours.
Omg, I'm thrilled I found your channel 💞 So many folks talk about the how to's and tools, but not usually the why! I love the term, freak flag! 🤭👍Your bright colours and tone of voice help ease my anxiety. Thankyou so much. 🌈💞🇦🇺
Oh thank you Gail. You are lovely. I’m hoping to have the class ready in two to three weeks time, it depends how long it takes me… tee hee. I’m just taking my time with it as I want it to be a goody! Definitely some time in March though xx
@@HelenWellsArtist I cant wait to sign up. I will be there! Really liked this video on colour as well ... will watch it again and again and of course loved all your art work!
This was great Helen! Really helpful regarding colour combinations. I keep getting stuck with acrylics and my colours, so I think I may try some watercolour pencils as I find coloured pencils less daunting but can still achieve the similar texture of ink or paint. Thank you for another great video, even though I am a year late to the party 😊
Thank you for the new class, Helen! I made a bunch of papers tonight to glue together tomorrow. I’m still pre-schooler in the subject of art despite my age of 63, and have been thus far only an audience and not a participant but you’ve changed all that and inspired me to try! I think you coined some term similar to “weird and awkward” art pages - well, bingo. (lol) But I’m going to glue the pages and make the book anyway. Side note, my hubby loves you so much too and he’s never so much as picked up a paintbrush. Maybe he’ll give it a go when he sees mine :D.
Mary I flipping love this! You are brilliant. Everyone knows preschoolers are the BEST artists so you’re good to go. Love to you and Mr Gadsby…and embrace the weird and wonderful. Love H x
I love your colour choices. You have a really good feel for colour and composition. I'm trying to learn but my work still looks blah. There's so much to consider. Contrast, colour, composition and content. 😫 😂 I persevere but honestly it's so frustrating. My ADHD brain doesn't help. I jump all over the place and get distracted by new ideas. I've set myself a goal of 100 conpleted paintings and drawings this year hoping that it will take me forward, even if they look rubbish. I've been studying my colour wheel and looking at other people's art to figure out how to make it all work. I'll keep trying. I have to create and hope one day it will come together and I'll like my work.
Oh you are kind. You’re right art making is not always easy, there are so many things to consider. I’ve been working as an artist for ten years and I don’t have it all figured out at all. Be kind to your creative self and keep on going, it’s a rewarding endeavour. Sending love Helen x
Try not to rubbish your art Rachelle! We are all learning every time we paint or draw or doodle. The learning never ends (not even for Helen as she admitted as much). Try to let go of perfection because to be honest it can be crippling...seriously! I have realised this also. Let go of the end result, of the outcome and enjoy the process. If you are unhappy with a particular piece or page then put it away and come back to it some other time. I personally let go of perfection and I now enjoy the process more. Creativity is essential for us so try not to be too hard on yourself ok?
Loving your videos and your art. I wonder what kind of sketchbooks you use, the bound ones with the red patterned cover. Do you make those yourself, too?
What I see in your scetchbook seems to tell me that all colours work well together. And sometimes colours that are not meant to work together like orange and pink for example seem to work particularly well in your scetchbook.
Oh that is so lovely of you Brigette, colour is such a personal thing and it's just so much fun to explore the combinations that resonate with you. Love Helen x
I use a real variety of sketchbooks… some I make and some I buy so the answer is both. I’ve got a blog about the sketchbooks I like here helenwellsartist.com/blogsandvideos/favouritesketchbooks
🎉🎉Thank You Miss. Helen Wells❤💐.You are truly an Inspiration to me. Your wonderful world reminds me of Matisse. Toom@CapeTown
