  • This week I am trying out The Organised Mum Method or TOMM . I am a mum of 3 small kids and also have 2 dogs and a cat so trying to keep the house clean is near impossible. The Organised Mum method seems like a dream come true. Only 30 minutes of cleaning a day and weekends off too.
I tested it out for a week and have given a very honest review of the very popular method.
I am Hannah aka "The Mummy in the Middle" . I have a blog on facebook and have just started vlogging as I have far too much to say. We post every Wednesday and Sunday at 6pm. Wednesdays will be hauls, tips, tricks and rants . Sunday is a weekly family vlog where we keep things very real. All the links to my facebook blog and instagram etc are below as well as the links for "The Organised Mum".
I hope you enjoy the video. Please like and subscribe if you do and leave me a comment if you decide to try out or are a long term fan of TOMM. Hannah x

I love TOMM! I've been doing it for 2 months to climb out of a seriously clurtered mess, and every week, each area of my house gets just a little cleaner and easier to maintain than the week before. I did NOT boot camp the whole house. I just started Bootcamping in the kitchen, then each day and week, I'd maintain whichever parts were boot camped with level 1's and 2's, and just waited until kitchen week to Bootcamp it some more on Focus day. Then each area of the house is being treated the same way. On Level 2 day for each area, I would.Boot camp that area until it was de-clittered enough to start maintaining, then save any extra Boot camp de-cluttering until the week that I'm supposed to focus on that area. I really try to stick to the 15 minute and 30 minute time limits that she suggests, but some jobs take me longer no matter how I break them down. So, for level 2 jobs, I time it for a more realistic time for me.for level 3's I just stick to 30 minutes or 15 depending on the area I'm cleaning, and just continue where I left off the next time that area falls on the rotation schedule. Also, I adjusted the areas and the job break downs to fit my house and my needs. I just don't know where to fit things like weeding and mowing the lawn. We have a big yard and it takes 2 hours at least to mow it using a riding tractor/mower.so for now, just add it as an additional to do aside from cleaning and housework. The other outside work is what I still focus on when it's Outside day.

Hi I love the TOMM method, I does get quicker, but I find the Tuesday is the hardest day. But the point is that u get as much does as you can for 30 mins only 👍 your house will get cleaner each week. Just keep T it after about week 3 something clicks and it gets so much quicker. R u doing level one also. Hope your having fun with it and the playlists really helps. 😊

You definitely have to set a timer and stop once the 30 mins is up. You just do the left over jobs next week, and make sure they're first on the list.
You do get quicker, my first week I didnt get through all the kitchen jobs and now I do them in about 25 mins!! I have 4 bedrooms and I do 2 bedrooms 1 week and the other 2 the week after.

I prefer FlyLady where you have a 5 Zones and you do 15 minutes a day in the zone deep cleaning. I refuse to spend 30 mins a day on one room. I like that I have a week to do all my bedrooms, or my kitchen or my office and hall, or my dining room, or my bathrooms. On top of that you have daily routines and 2 minute hotspot. That works for me and I don’t feel a slave to cleaning. Weekends are free as well if you want.

Just discovered this video. Was wondering if you kept it up. Definitely have to work it round your own schedule. Also getting the wash load on as early as possible is a game changer.

It’s the best system I’ve found! I wake up at 6 am usually and don’t start work until 8:30 so I usually just do it in the morning and then at night add an extra ten minute kitchen clean (dishwasher and wipe down) and delegate my kids to pick up their toys 🤣 I feel like I have my house back without spending my whole time cleaning 😭😭

You need to wipe before vacuuming because when you wipe, the dust falls on the floor

Where you were wondering if you were cheating most instructors on completing tasks tell you do as much as time allows. Not everyday are you going to have 30 mins to clean somedays you don't feel like 30 mins of cleaning has to be done someday running the vacuum, sweeping or mopping will do it. Sometimes you just need a 5 minute pick up to put stuff back where it goes. I suggest checking out Dana K White at A Slob Comes Clean.

There is a cool video from the awkward mom about teaching your kids independent playtime. I haven't tried it yet because I'm currently pregnant with my first child but maybe this might help you.

Perhaps do the half hour before they get up for the day or when they get to bed.

I felt a lot of frustration watching your interpretation of the organized Mum. I think theMost important part that you neglected was Level 1 jobs. The level one jobs take care of the Needed tasks. They are repeated from Monday to Friday.
You talk about the level two jobs as if all tasks for each room are to be done, They are not you Do as much as you can in 30 minutes. What did not get done will be there for the next week. Where you say “I must work too slow I did not get it all done”. And “I’ve done as much as I can”. Progress. Not perfection Try adding in level 1 jobs. There are level 1,2 and level 3 jobs all with a different purpose.
I feel you missed the point/purpose of the system. Again I felt so much frustration listening to how you did it

There are people who iron their sheets? Aren't they frustrated that it lasts only some minutes after going to bed for the sheets to be all wrinkly again?

Theres no way its 30 minutes for all of that unless its been done rushed. And theres 2 of you for the 30 mins for some of it too?

It does require a change in how you approach the cleaning. It is certainly not for everyone but it can be done.
