Let me give some advice on my First Alert Gas Detector! My finished basement smelled like gas and I couldn’t locate the problem but even more scary the First Alert detector was not sounding the alarm. I called the gas company and when they came the gas was leaking from the dryer gas line which was two feet away from the First Alert Gas Detector which is less than one year old... I took the gas detector and when upstairs and turned on the gas on the stove obviously without the flame and out the gas detector above the gas on the hand and it never activated... To confirm it wasn’t me, I have two Kiddie gas detectors and took them from the living room and also places them above the stove gas and the alarms activated saying Gas! Gas! Move to open air! My point is don’t assume it works out of the box, test the alarms! I called First Alert and explained the situation and they are sending a new one but want this one sent back... I hope they check it!!!!!

Your experience is apparently not uncommon with this unit there are other TH-cam videos putting the unit right on top of a gas burner with no flame and gives me next to zero faith in what first Alert promises. My only question is did you run the test button before? I would assume you did. I’ll be returning it and getting my 60 bucks back tomorrow for sure!

What does the green light mean

My alarm kept beeping, just like a smoke alarm does when the battery needs replacing.
I wasn't sure if it was an alarm or just needing to replace the battery. It would be great if
you would do a video, showing us what to look for, so we can get out of the house when needed. Is it a constant alarm?

Might wanna make the gas sensor more sensitive. I ran a true test of the gas sensor and nothing happened. However when testing the carbon monoxide sensor, it picked it up and sounded within the 4-15 minutes.

When this unit is plugged in, Should the green light be on steady? Kinda confusing cause when you open the cover to the battery door, underneath the light it say "move to fresh air" - I have researched this and read that if the green light is flashing, it doesn't mean to move the unit to fresh air but to move yourself to fresh air, which is common sense to me. But anyway, My question is: Should this green light be on??? when everything is fine?

I have not seen a good result from people who tested that and made videos about this product. It seems like they don’t work. Everybody has seen a good video. Please share about this brother. I bought one and I’m thinking to take it back right now.

@maryleamiller Yes the green light will stay on. It is indicating that the alarm is operating correctly. The green light will flash for a couple seconds then stay green. You move to fresh air when the alarm sounds.

@LuxuryHomesByLisa When the battery is low/missing the LED will be Green and it will chirp about every minute, just like smoke alarms. When the alarm is sounding because of Gas, you will hear 1 beep every second. When the alarm is sounding because of Carbon Monoxide, you will hear a repeating 4 beeps after a pause.

Have been using one of these now for months, and first off to let ya know, just have the whole device just plugged in to the wall outlet, I mean I havent put the device higher up on the wall as you said you could with the extended cord, but thats the main thing I wanted to ask, to get the absolute most out of the device, for a normal home, should I put the device higher up on the wall than where it is right now, just plugged into the lower wall outlet? Other than that, have had it plugged in now for at least 4 months if correct and luckily it have Never gone off once yet...............

Hello Andrew. It is recommended that you mount your FA Gas and CO Alarm high
on the wall (no closer than six inches from the ceiling) to ensure the
earliest opportunity to detect a natural gas leak.

Robert I called installers, contractors, fire Dept. and the gas company. They all say there is no residential product that detects it. The product does not denote "natural gas" detection but after reading some I found that natural gas does contain methane
