John, thank you so much for this video. I've had the ATAS-120a for 3yrs now and there is hardly any information on the operation of this antenna. The info that comes with it are a little less than stellar. Your video today is an EXCELLENT reference tool to guide people on this antenna. Thank you for this video. For about 6 years I owned a Little Tarheel II with an IC-706MkIIg and loved it. I have been considering the Atas-120A for use with a FT897 in the field with the ATBK-100 kit. I feel comfortable with this antenna for my application and plan to order the 120/100 kit. In this podcast John mentions that holding the PTT and pressing one of the mic top buttons will manually tune the ATAS. This is significant information and I have searched the FT-710 Operation Manual and the "radiotoday guide to the Yaesu FT-710" but cannot find any reference to that. I wonder why this is so. I have just bought an ATAS-120A and am having trouble getting it working so the manual operation may help me understand why and find the solution. Of course the other info in this podcast is pretty useful, too. Howard, VK4BS
It's a great little antenna, i use it on my appartment balcony mounted in a 40 x 40 cm plate thats mounted to a steel balcony fence and it tunes like a charm on hf no problems whatsoever. I can and have worked stations all over the globe with it, from the US to south america from south africa to japan etc. etc. Comfortably. It's not a pile up breaker ofcourse and don't expect wonders from it but it can do the job using a barefoot radio

does this work ok for 2 meters also? I really cant find anything for the 2 meters usage.
