Nice! I'm pretty impressed with it so far. The only reason I keep it inside the car is if someone bumps it in a parking lot I don't want my hood to get damaged.
When I last drove down there, I swung by BG SP - I noticed I couldn’t get any cell reception to spot. I ended up going to the Fort to activate. I’ll get down there and activate again soon! Thanks for video!
Thanks for watching! I have Verizon, in case knowing that does you any good. I’ll bring APRS and check for echoes the next time I’m there. It’s often my go-to spotting method when I’m on summits. Fort Vancouver is a fantastic park for activating. I’m almost to 100 there!
I never owned the AX-1 Whip. Well what do you want me to say about the ATAS-120A? I had the very fist Yaesu ATAS-100 back in 1997 running it with my little Field Commander FT100 Denmark. The Manufacturer tells us this Antenna covers 40m - 440mhz Bands. The Question is on how many Bands is this Antenna giving you satisfying Results. Operating the 40m Band any Piece of Wire performs way better than the AATAS does, no matter if you run the ATAS with or without Radial kit. From 20-6m Bands this Antenna works pretty well RX like TX Results. I have never been a 144 and 440mhz Guy so I cannot really tell how the ATAS works there. My Play Grounds are 160-6m Bands. 2010 I took the Chance to get me the ATAS-120A which to me is no Differance to the previous ATAS-100. Paying 369.-$ what for? Having something like automatic Screwdriver? It's up to each by its own what to buy and what to get happy with. All you can do is try and find out what really works for you. For what I do HAM Radio wise both ATAS Versions were just Money under the Train. may be I was expecting too much out them? I cannot really tell. Tnx for your Video. Merry Christmas & happy New Year. 73 de Uncle Günter across the Pond 💯👍🙋♂
My experience so far has been that the ATAS works well if others are looking for you. I also have been noticing that I’m getting way better signal reports than I give back with this antenna, which leads me to believe, unsurprisingly, that it’s relatively deaf. There’s a price to pay for convenience. It’s pretty good for a 3 foot piece of wire and coil, but it is still a 3 foot wire and a coil.
We drove with an ATAS 120a on the roof from Budapest,Hungary to Sierra Leone in West Africa, through the Sahara desert! They are amazingly tough.

I love my 891, ldg rt 100 and 102” whip for vehicle based activation.
ATAS functionality but tunes from 6-40m less than 1.5 swr
love my ATAS 120a ;-)
My ATAS broke and I can't get parts from Yaesu. I will stick to my other antennas. Another great video Merry Christmas!
Well that sucks! You’d think Yaesu would come through for you on that!
