I got you 👀🫡 Isekai is an anime genre where the main character is teleported in some way from their own world / time to a new one! It's a long running genre but it's become super oversaturated recently, often with different mashups of "an average dude gets teleported to a fantasy D&D type world where he's super strong & has a cool job and also 8 girlfriends!" There are certainly plenty of good isekai with cool takes on it, but every year there's like 10 new isekai and 8 of them will sadly be identical 😅 awesome if you like that kind of show, depressing if you don't!
This is based on a manga and the manga has completed. The creator wouldn't let an anime be made until she was done with the manga. At the rate they went with season one, they would only need two seasons to cover everything. Thankfully almost immediately after season one was done, they announced that season two was greenlit.
The Legend of Vox Machina is directly based off of a Dungeons & Dragons game, but I think Delicious in Dungeon is one of the best examples of DnD themes, systems, and worldbuilding brought into a fully realized work of fiction. The author is a fan of old western RPGs and her love for fantasy and knack for fantasy ecology and worldbuilding is really impressive! It's a bit of a slowburn, but the concepts and humor are just amazing!
The world building in this is honestly some of the best in terms of fantasy anime in years. I don't normally get into fantasy anime because they are generally lazy with how their world works; mostly generic fantasy setting with little regard to what they put in. Even worse if it's an isekai anime, which just takes the "ain't this strange" approach since the main character is a stranger to the world as well. It's also just bad when a fantasy setting treats the entire premise too much like an RPG at times, such as basing skills on stats and levels very literally instead of just realizing those terminology and game aspects are just for the game mechanics, not something that should be directly stated or acknowledged in the narrative. The creator of Delicious in Dungeon definitely looked towards the better alternative to XP leveling in DnD; milestone leveling, where a character's experience is determined by what they have done, what they have actually learned, and how their character development is going, rather than just wanting to kill enough enemies to make the number of XP gained go up. It's what makes Dimension 20 so good to watch, and it's the kind of mindset that really makes Delicious in Dungeon so satisfying to watch; these characters become better through this journey through their experiences.
I think Emily Rudd really nailed Marcille throughout the show - all of her dialogue comes off with an edge of "I can't believe this is my life.", and somehow it never gets old.
When old computer RPGs like Ultima and Wizardry (particularly Wizardry) were imported to Japan, a lot of the whimsical humor behind the games otherwise somewhat bare plots were lost in translation. Japan's experience of dungeon crawls started as bleak, spare, completely random, luck-based, almost survival horror. That has colored their view of the fantasy genre ever since--there have been countless Japanese-original dungeon crawl video games since, including a number of unofficial sequels to the Wizardry series. Eventually, that would spread to other Japanese fiction markets, like light novels and manga, and eventually that reached the creator of Delicious in Dungeon, who, among other things, decided to really dive deep into WHY such a system would exist. There have been the occasional peek at how megadungeons of this sort get made and operate, but this goes into how the dungeon operates, and what makes the sorts of people who would give up ordinary lives to go explore a dungeon would be like. It's a great series. Season 2 was greenlit and should be appearing next year.
Fun fact: The spanish name for this series is "Tragones y Mazmorras" which is a play on "Dragones y Mazmorras" which is the spanish name for Dungeons and Dragons. The title translates to "Dungeons and Gluttons".
translated names of this is a play on words of dnd related titles. original name is dungeon meshi which is dungeon food but when first localized to america they changed it to delicious in dungeon = dnd = dungeons and dragons.
Bottom of my heart thanks for the impulse. Want more ppl to get on board. This series is definitely here for a good time, not a long time and I want everyone to experience it.
I don't know if anyone mentioned it before but it's animated by Studio Trigger. Among their portfolio is Star Wars: Visions episode 3: The Twins and episode 7: The Elder. That's a good barometer of what to expect from this show. Fun Fact: the mangaka didn't want her work adapted into animation until she had finished. She also released an encyclopedia further expanding the world. A Monster Manual if you will. Senshi is voiced by SungWon Cho aka ProZD. Who also played Ratatoskr in God of War: Ragnarok. 14:00 a duck walking by with an onion? How oddly specific, it's quite Farfetch'd.
19:17 Part of my enjoyment of this series was how it keeps the themes it stablishes at the start all the way through. There were moments of astonished excitement because she kept rolling in the starting themes.
I rolled my eyes at myself for clicking on Delicious In Dungeon, mainly because I wanted something new. I can't tell you how pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this show. Each character has something relatable about them. Laios and Falin are brother and sister, just in case you were wondering why Laios was willing to go after her himself. This will be a good watch!
Hooray! Excellent show. For what it's worth, venom is bad when it's injected into you (stinger, fangs, etc), but might not be harmful when eaten. Poison is bad when eaten (or inhaled or absorbed), but might not be harmful if it were injected. I guess if the cooking guide said the big scorpion venom wasn't harmful if ingested, it might know, but I would have preferred to avoid it just in case, too.
interesting name for the halffoot chilchuck. his job is a rogue pretty much and in an old fantasy anime called record of lodoss war (pretty much japans first dnd like anime) the rogue in that is named woodchuck. creator of this story ryoko kui is a GIGA fantasy fan (major baldurs gate 1 and 2 fan to the point she made special companion portraits to share online. someone was able to take it, convert into a mod so players can replace default companion portraitsi nto the ones she drew.) and alot of old and new fantasy media influenced creation of this. and again she is a giga fan to point ppl ask who is your favorite elf companion in fantasy. she responded with a full page of various elf companions from baldurs gate, pathfinder, dragon age, skyrim and such.
I genuinely enjoy how clever and inventive they get with some of the dungeon food. Honestly, their idea for eating animated suits of armor was really creative.
Most fans agree that Laios is autistic coded and his english VA Damien Haas is autistic which contributes to that reading. I think it makes a lot of sense especially considering some misunderstandings that happen in future episodes.
voice for the dwarf if dont recognize it is prozd, a youtuber that does voice work. he also voices ratatosker the world tree squirrel in god of war ragnarok.
OMG I didn't know my fav character.. Chilchuck's English Dub Voice Actor have a very similar voice to his original Japanese voice actor! Love your reaction btw!
I find it funny that everyone but Falin escaped because she was in a stomach despite being the person who cast the escape spell. But it does make sense when they give an explanation to something else in final episode.
Dungeon Meshi is honestly one of the best manga I have read so I'm gonna enjoy this. Bust also, where is Korra book 4? seems weird you just... stopped.
I love this series. It's kind of a slow burn/monster of the week show, but I loved every minute of it. The dub is very good, and better for TH-cam reactions IMO Hopefully more people start reacting to this show.
19:11 The thing is, Namari isn't actually a barbarian. She _looks_ like a barbarian in that very first scene because of the skull helmet, but she never uses that helmet again 🤔
Been waiting for you to react to this, but nah man, you gotta do the original Japanese. Quirkiness is the strength of this series. But said quirkiness doesn't translate well to English and the dub totally loses that charm.
i watch this series in japanese with undertitles, you dont really miss anything from the dialogue but the voice acting ads so much flavour compared to the english voices, but i guess in english its better to react to.
I have since finished the series and am rewatching in Japanese. I tend to agree! I think Marcille has the biggest difference and I really prefer her Japanese VA
gosh, the English dub is quite bad. the voices are completely emotionless I don't believe the all the dubbers would do that by choice or that they are that bad, so I assume this is problem with the voice direction
You don’t know how happy I was that this anime wasn’t just another isekai harem anime slop. It’s actually really good.
Me too😂
Dude I can't stand Isekai anymore. I don't think an anime genre has been this beaten to death before so soon after it got popular.
@@looneyluna96 honestly there a very very few thata re actually good. the rest are a blur
What is isekai? I've never heard that word before 😅

And the fact that it's her first ever voice acting gig she's definitely going places.

The setting really gives me Yawning Portal/Dungeon of the Mad Mage vibes.

You don´t know the surface of how brilliant is this concept! I'm glad you are reacting to it!

I just started this last night on a whim and, just after finishing it, I find this reaction! Excellent
Great show, and they did an excellent job on the english dub!
Omg i just found the anime last month, and im friggin lovin it. And now one of my favourite reacters is watching it? I cant be more happy❤

"A duck isn't gonna walk by carrying a green union." I just now realized what thatvis a reference to.
For those who are wondering, it's the Pokemon farfetch'd
Delicious in Dungeon is awesome! Studio Trigger never disappoints.

Great Video !

Yes!
This is a really unique series.😊
You are gonna enjoy episode 17 so much!!! 😂😂😂 its a silly fun episode where no one dies ❤❤❤
yay, one of the great surprise animes of the year
voice for the dwarf if dont recognize it is prozd, a youtuber that does voice work. he also voices ratatosker the world tree squirrel in god of war ragnarok.
Cool to see you ract to this show! Time to rewatch it
You made a heck of a good choice picking this show. You'll love the world building in this for sure!
the first half of this anime is just Marcille suffering
Yea .... just the first half
私は原作漫画の大ファンで、またスターウォーズファンでもあります。あなたがこのシリーズを初めてくれたことを本当に嬉しく思います❤

Finally! Do Frieren too please
I could totally see this being adapted into a game. Dave the Diver part two. Dave in the Dungeon.
There is a board game of it.
I find it funny that everyone but Falin escaped because she was in a stomach despite being the person who cast the escape spell.
But it does make sense when they give an explanation to something else in final episode.
Dungeon Meshi is honestly one of the best manga I have read so I'm gonna enjoy this.

Its coming soon! Don't worry I haven't forgotten
@@grizzledwizard7129 Good to know. I was getting a bit confused when it wasn't even on your patreon.

Cool to see more people enjoy this anime, can’t wait to see how you like the later episodes.
Unexpected, but not unwelcome.

So considering this finished up in early June, I'm guessing you didn't actually react to this just the other day?
I watched this like, 2 weeks after it premiered 😅
The dub is significantly better. The dub does not capture the humor in the same way.

Idk how much anime you watch. But with this anime you are really mising out from the sub. The og voic actors are sooooooo much funnier.
