  • This is a short walk along the North Sea coast at South Shields, North east England, starting at Trow Rocks and finishing at Frenchman's Bay. We have not been here for a while and makes a "change" from the beautiful Marsden cliffs just further along. This was a smugglers coastline and Frenchman's Bay is named after a French ship that ran aground there in the 1700s. A disused stone quarry is behind Trow rocks and forms a flat playing service for children. The Waters Edge pub is not open at the moment with the restrictions. We were really taken with the wonderful deep rumbling sound of the large rounded stones, more than pebbles I think, being washed by the sea. Our lovely eldest daughter Rachel took some wonderful shots of the waves breaking through the rocks and the frozen plants.
