    Mr. Moby, if you ever read this please understand you that you earned another fan today. I'm just a man, age 64, and rarely weep anymore, yet found my face wet. I may just understand. This is an incredible creation. Thank you very much. Whether here or the next life, I hope to meet one day.

    This music video really hits home especially the older that I get. The people, places, and events in my life that I share with so many people will one day only exist in my memories. The older you get the sadder life becomes when your loved ones are no longer here and the generations before you start to disappear. Treasure your life and the people in it, because one day we will all be just a faded memory. 😔❤️😎

      Lost my father when I was 19 he was 53 one day I went to lift him he became dead weight ripped my pants trying to carry him back to bed. He was dying I was screaming not to go hang on to looking him in the eyes and comforting him saying let go. His last breathe of life was looking me in my eyes. That day impacted my life in a very huge manner and not for good. Followed sorrow no father figure mom never remarried just went down hill brother down hill. He would have stopped alot of the bad that came after. I'm almost 40 now and never a day goes by I don't think how much I miss him.Before he got so sick he was bed ridden we watched the movie stand by me and when that song came on at the end we both looked at each other I grabbed his hand and sat there in silence knowing what was coming. Just rewatched this beloved video again crying
    and was reminded of being with my father when he passed April 4 , 2024 ...
    For most of my life we didn't have much in COMMON...
    so we weren't very close and he lived far away , but he did what he could to support us.
    And I KNOW he loved me .
    I'm 55 , my dad was 80 years old .
    He was living in an Alzheimer's home near Nashville .
    More recently he had broken his hip for the second time and it was not surgically fixable .
    So strong pain meds were given ; which often causes rapid deterioration in older men .
    He developed pneumonia . and hospice care was soon initiated .
    That's when my step sister messaged me that I may want to visit as it wasn't looking good.
    The day I arrived he was very frail ;
    ~ his body reminded me of an artistic drawing of a cadaver.
    That's how close to death he was.
    Nurse got him to consciousness and to open his squinting eyes ;
    The nurse said :" for you " to me ...
    I walked over into his line of sight and said ": Hi dad ; It's Doug ... your son ... " ...
    and I saw that slight glimmer of delighted recognition he gave me three years ago .
    THIS was all I wanted . For him to know I was there .
    The next morning when we arrived his body was forcibly breathing fast ;
    I noted his cheeks were even rosy red ...
    deceivingly healthy looking compared to his pallor the day before
    The rosy cheeks were actually from his body overworking / unable to get oxygen to his lungs ... he was in the end stages
    He took less frequent breaths ... for about an hour
    until
    absolute stillness and quiet
    I said to my stepsister
    " I think he's in the light now "
    Our COMMONALITY was now me being with him as he faced death without fear .
    Can't get closer than that ... "
    🔷 ~ Doug in Austin 🔷

    I remember being a kid and hearing this song for the first time on an airplane randomly. It was probably around when it came out so 1999 or 2000, so I was probably 10? I remember being totally shook by it, I had never heard anything like it. I would hear it now and then and alway was so intrigued by it, moved by it really, but it wasn't until I was in high school when I found out it was a Moby song. This whole album is incredible and the blues recordings that are at the centerpiece of some many of the tracks are truly unforgettable. Sometimes young people make jokes about Moby and I just wanna be like okay but have you heard "Play" bc it is one of the greatest masterpieces of dance music.

      He's not actually singing the song. He sampled the hook. And put a dope beat to it. There's a really good story behind the creation of this album. I heard it on a podcast recently. Something about him being broke and sleeping on friends couches at the time. And a friend lends him a box set of cds with a bunch of old southern songs. He ended up sampling a bunch of those songs and created the album that made him famous.

    A few years ago, I created a playlist for myself with like 800 songs. But I never knew all of them ,because i kind of just throwing everything in it. So about a week ago I decided I won't pick music, I will let it play all 800. I put a paper on the table, and started drawing. As usual night activity, when I can't sleep. 80 minutes in, this song popped up. I raised my eyebrows, cuz i never heard it before. Nor that i knew it was there. So I typed into youtube, and started the video. Honestly, 5 seconds in I started crying, because i sort of knew what I will see. But I'd never imagine seeing this level of realism. I wasn't prepared for this. Then I watched further. And it became more and more depressing to me, because a lot of my relatives passed away very early, when I was younger. I only have 1 grandmother now, besides my mom and dad, and she's in a place like in the video right now. We visit her often, but sometimes she's not recognizing us anymore. She's 94. She was always happy, and she was very active, even in her 80's. Now she's in a wheelchair all day in the building, and I feel so bad for her. I love her....
    ...(I hate to say it, but) if it's her time to leave this world, and me, and my parents,... I will know, where to find this true art of a music. ❤ and if it's my time, i want this song, to play on my funeral...

      Yes, the weight of taking care of elderly parents is hard, I know, doing so same. Do not be depressed - you are doing the right thing, may be thankless and draining, but you are fulfilling a part of a greater destiny. I always think of how long my parents took care of me, raising me and while they were also taking care of my grandparents, I know. I don't need God to remind of me of those years - I believe in our duty, repaying what life has given us.

    Damn, It took me 20 years to get the meaning of this song. I haven't seen the video in almost that long. But now with the video and song together, i see the point of the song as looking back on ones life and remembering the good and bad. Only the things that I myself can understand. No matter how hard I try to explaing to someone my experiences, they will never understand completely.
    At least, that is the way I am feeling when I see the video now.
