I’m surprised that they didn’t put a factory seal on the steering shaft. Kinda funny what the automotive world thought was important back then compared to today. That steering is going to work/feel better than factory. Great work Jason!
Nice job. Getting ready to take my steering box apart for the same reason. I have been told the pin (stud) that worn down vacancies be purchased. The John Deere part number is AM1515T. If mine is worn down that's what I will be getting
I ended up putting a seal on my upper shaft later before installing it on the tractor. I also plugged the hollow shaft with RTV but in your case that doesn't matter. I'm sure all that is over kill since my tractor is retired now but I figured why not.
I was thinking something could be rigged up. Mine will never set outside anyway, so I might not worry about it. I've been watching your videos, excellent content!
@sparksfireandbalingwire8467 Thanks! Yeah if it had oil it would still be alive now even without the seal. I wish I put grease in mine. I have a slight leak. I think it's the treads on the adjustment screw. I'll put sealant on it next time I pull the starter I guess.
Does anyone know a part number for the shaft seal in the gearbox? This is different than a Ross Gearbox on a B series tractor as the shaft diameter is larger on a C series tractor.
Awesome work Jason! 😁👍 Looks brand new my friend. Glad to see more progress. Sorry I missed this one early on. Happy wrenching 🔧🔩

We used a shifter boot on the steering shaft to keep the water from going into the gear box. Looking good.
Good idea, I will keep that in mind
Were you able to get that inside the column tube?
@@JPN76 It was put on while we assembled , we used a shifter boot from a ford 8n.
@@JPN76 I haven't tried it yet.

As always good stuff, i have definitely picked up a few things watching your channel, especially the Allis stuff.
Thanks! I'm glad some people are finding value in it.
