My Dad's side of the family left Aubure, Alsace in 1846. It had around 300 people living there. Currently, around 300 people live in Aubure, Alsace.

I am a born finn, living in Finland, and yet my genes come, the both family lines, respectively, from the Alsace-Rheinland area 20 000 years ago. :)

I’ve known for a long time that my gg-grandmother was from Alsace but I never knew anything about it. She came to America around 1849 & after marrying a German man in New Orleans, they came to California via the isthmus of Panama in 1852. They eventually ended up in the beautiful Nevada City, CA where they had a large family and lived out the rest of their lives. I loved your video. Thank you for making it. And because my gg-grandmother is from there, it made your video very personal for me. I hope someday I can find distant cousins there like you did. 💐

This article hits home to me because I feel there is a portion of lost identity for me. I can only go so far in my family tree on my mothers side with Alsace-Lorraine as a focal point and very German names from the mid 1800s. Thank you for your story.

Wow what a gift to learn of your Alsatian ancestry. I love Alsace and have been there many times and will keep going back, as I imagine you will now also. And so cool to whip out a bottle of Riesling back home and go this is the wine of my people 😁

Thanks for sharing this video. I visited the region back in 2019 and found it to be the most beautiful region in all of France. I also have ancestry from Alsace as the Eschenbrenner's immigrated to America from the region around 1860. I was researching our family tree and discovered on the 1870 census they listed their country of origin as 'France' and then in 1880 census (after the Franco-Prussian War) they listed their country of origin as 'Alsace-Lorraine'. I wish I could find more on this line of my family in the region but I've unfortunately run into dead ends.

My great, great grandfather was from Alsace. Entered American in the early 1800's in port of New Orleans. His first name was Jacque. French definitely!

I just ran across your video and found it very interesting as my 3rd great grandfather was born there and his wife born around Strasberg but I have been unable to find out any more on them, I think it’s great you were able to go there and meet family.

My last name is Wittenkeller and I grew up always thinking I was German and Polish but I found out my name got changed in the mid 1880’s. There’s only 14 living Wittenkellers so I hope to come to find some history :)

Why is it necessary to have music so loud that listening to the voice-over is difficult??
Place the music subtilty in the BACKGROUND and the VO in the foreground - PLEASE!

Both my mother and father’s sides of my family originate in Alsace, I live just outside amish country. The yoder family amish are very prominent here, and also originated from Alsace. The Amish settled there because it looked similar to home. There also is a town near me called strasburg. (Americanized) Its extremely interesting to know that my family settled near other alsacians.
