Like many others, I am listening to the Bible in a Year for the second time. It always amazes me that King David and King Solomon and many other ‘good’ people in the Bible, were good, but they also fell of the pedestal and did some terrible things (e.g. have Uriah murdered so he could have Bathsheba) and God forgives then when they repent. There is hope for all of us as long as we remember to go to confession and repent of our wrong doings. Our God is indeed a loving and forgiving God.
Spot on Mavis! We mustn’t let any guilt of wrongdoings or careless words stain our souls, as we have a merciful Father just waiting in the sacrament of reconciliation to listen and forgive if we are genuinely sorry! What a gift! Because if we fail to be reconciled in this life we will carry it over in death and then we can’t pray for ourselves anymore. 🙏🥰

Children are so observant of their parents. Solomon saw when David loved and served God that God blessed him, therefore he asked for that wisdom to follow God. This is an old testament prosperity gospel lesson. Kind of. I'm sure this still happens today but, then there is Jesus and all the disciples who lived in vagabond poverty and then were tortured to death. One is like a path of following God and escaping worldly torture, while the other is following God into worldly torture. God give me the grace to accept and carry the cross you have specifically designed for me. Amen.

This is the first time reading 1 Kings for me. I just want to savour King Solomon building the Temple and accomplishing the mission set before him. I just want to relish the fact that God was so pleased that He filled the Temple with His Glory. It's so awesome. I'm in awe of it all, it shows God was with Solomon, Davids' son, and with the people of Israel. King Solomon honoured his father, King Davids' wishes, and he gave adoration, praise, worship, and thanksgiving to God, which He so rightly deserves. It just proves that when God is with us, He works all things for good for those who love Him and keep His commands. God never leaves us, we leave Him unfortunately.
“Little children (believers, dear ones), let us not love [merely in theory] with word or with tongue [giving lip service to compassion], but in action and in truth [in practice and in sincerity, because practical acts of love are more than words].” 1 John 3:18

Minor point that confused me at first: in minute 20:17 Fr Mike misspoke saying that “David” married Pharaoh’s daughter, whereas it was King Solomon is who he is speaking of. Hope I’m not being too petty. Love this series more than my three years of Bible college! ❤️❤️❤️

Solomon’s greatest accomplishment was building the temple that David was not allowed to build. God confirmed the temple by overshadowing the holy place with His glory. God also overshadowed Mary in the same way at the incarnation. Mary’s womb became the Holy of Holies & the abode of God. Please explain to me how a man could later impregnate that same womb with a regular child with original sin?
I do not think I have ever blocked anyone and I am ignorant on all that setting stuff. I am having a lot of problem with my computer right now and think I will have to take it in to be cleaned up. I cannot seem to get any messages from g mail or hot mail. I need to figure this out as my brother's family are mad that they cannot reach me to direct me on more things they want done with the main house. I am overwhelmed since my brother's death. 😍
Note that the story of the Temple highlights the legitimacy of doctrinal development. The people worshiped the Lord in a particular way for hundreds of years but then when the temple was built they were supposed to change the way they worshiped. I imagine there were many who disagreed with the change and doubted the authority to do so. However, the doubters were wrong. Just because something is traditional does not mean that it cannot be changed by a competent authority. Some things cannot be changed, but other things can. Vatican 2 was a legitimate change that was slandered and exploited by communists in order to push their agenda. But the real changes Vatican 2 made (not the "changes" that many people think it made (which it did not) that are the product of communist lies) are legitimate.

Fr. Mike misspoke. It was noy David, but Solomon, who married the daughter of Pharoah. Of course, none of the rest of us have ever done such a thing!
