I bought a Kamiq, and it’s getting delivered tomorrow! I’ve never considered Skoda before I watched this video! Went to the dealership, took it out for a drive and absolutely loved it! I agree 100% that it’s the best car in the segment (even though it’s almost as big as cars form the segment above). Thank you for an awesome video and a great and accurate review! Kalle from Sweden🇸🇪
Makes me laugh that Skoda have been told by VW to dial things back a bit. How times have changed. I think VW now looks like a poor version of a Skoda rather than the other way around. I had an Octavia, replaced it with a 3 series (BMW did a massive discount), sent that back early now looking at another Skoda. Great video Bob.
My fav “intelligent extra” that I use all the time is the 30p piece of plastic on the A pillar to hold your parking ticket. No chance of it blowing off the dash when you close your door, excellent but so simple.
Ouch, it all sounded brilliant until you said 31 grand. I'm sure it is brilliant, as good as a Range Rover in terms of luxury and comfort (without breaking down and costing you a fortune to service), but 31K makes it no longer a budget buy. I love my my '05 Fabia, it has a 12V charging port I can plug my phone into (with an adapter of course) so I get music, sat nav, radio, TV, internet etc. Pretty sweet I say; it can also go over a field, which is the most this car will ever be called upon to do I'm guessing. My Fabia is still going strong after 140K on the clock and I paid five grand for it when it had 16K on the clock. Now THAT'S value!
The petrol v electric v diesel comparison will be interesting and I think many will be surprised too, especially when you factor in real world running costs. Jumping on the electric bandwagon isn't necessarily the answer.
Agreed, running an EV is no longer "cheaper" add in cost buying and now paying to charge up as bob says it's just a wealthy guys toy where the suckered pay for development
@@BobFlavinVideo Not if you do a lot of mileage and consider cars like the MG ZS EV, Renault Zoe and Hyundai Ioniq EV over the course of at least 5 years. Yes, even if you live 60km away from work and it's -30°C outside. We only have the e-Golf and the Ioniq here in the affordable price range. Wish we had what you guys get in Europe
Love this reviewer- I have never considered owning a Skoda... but I like it. My partner has VW Polo which is great but this looks great and am looking for deals now.
Great review Father Bob, I’ll be test driving one of these hopefully tomorrow with a view to ordering one through the Motability scheme in the North. Ideally I’d prefer a diesel but scheme numbers of diesels have went from over a thousand 5 years ago to something like 70 now. I’ll miss my trips to South Armagh to fill up with the good stuff 😂
Hello Bob, you made me buy the Golf 7 in 2013 now I’m looking at Kamiq see you like it but I need your advice, I can buy a new Kamiq or a used two three years old Audi A4 B9 quattro, what should I do? Thanks and keep on the good work!
I wish that I had watched this video a month ago. Why? Because I bought a Kamiq SEL 1.5l DSG then. Yesterday, (having owned it for a month) I returned to my (wonderful) Skoda dealer and have ordered a replacement!. This time a Kamiq SE Drive 1.0 DSG. The problem was the "Digital Dash" Okay, I am a "mature" driver (in years) But that "Dash" was a nightmare. Far too much information coming up on it (even when I didn't want it). I think that the worst one was the "Lane Assist". It kept cutting in (even when I thought that I had cancelled it) The effect was like having a puncture in one wheel. In fact the first time it cut-in, I thought that I had a puncture, with the car pulling to one side!! Next was having to use the "touch screen" to adjust the climate control. Why not just have Knobs? (so frustrating having to take one's eyes off the road and "fiddle -with" a screen). As far as too much Info is concerned, while driving, I am not so interested in MPG from start of journey, nor other irrelevant information (when driving). Okay, so I will have a car of a lesser TRIM. But why waste a great car with all of these "Bells and Whistles" which just DISTRACT the driver????????
For my money, USB-C is way handier than USB-A in a car. USB-C cables can carry significantly more power, so they can be used to charge larger devices like laptops or iPads, and will charge your phone way faster than USB-A.
@@BobFlavinVideo I guess. Although if a manufacturer is going to double-up, personally I'd take USB-C (speed) plus Qi inductive charging (convenience) over USB-A. But of course, YMMV.

Do like your reviews . Over £30k for a car like this is outrageous. Especially if you spend five minutes on Autotrader and see the last 3 series Touring 320i is going for @£23000. That’s for a 2019 car fully specced and @1000 miles on the clock .Then look at the price of a pre reg A Class Merc and similar price for a virtually brand new car . I know which car is the best value , best to own and least depreciating !
Same can be said of anything when you don't compare like-4-like. You're comparing a brand new to the market model with a used car that's now obsolete. If you're worried about value, don't buy a brand new car. Incidentally you quote in pounds sterling, the car Bob drives is for the Irish market so when he says 30k he means Euro. Over here un the UK, you can buy the same car with more or less the same options for £20k with discount ( 1.0 SE-L auto ). You'd have to add an electric boot and keyless start as an option over here, but then again the UK market comes with digital dash as std on that particular model. I agree with Bob, compared to similar cars in this class, the Kamiq seems best of all. I'd even put the quality of it higher than the equivalent Audi let alone the VW's which feel much cheaper. It feels miles better than VAG's Arona which was supposed to be the one of the class leaders.
He’s talking Euros and you have to factor in the ridiculous cost of cars in Ireland. In GBP the top spec SEL version with a 1l 6speed manual starts just shy of £21K. About £23K if you want a DSG. Still not cheap but it’s not close to 30K.
I’ve just sold my BMW 320D Touring. Yes it has been very good, but bloody expensive to run. e.g. £460 for a new thermostat, ouch….. So, we're not going to mention the optional height adjustable boot floor, digital dials, or that maybe you just need to buy a new usb c cable and take advantage of it's faster speed and higher power delivery? I usually like your reviews Bob, but in the time it took you to mention the broken usb adaptor, glitchy wireless Carplay and knackered back door.. all TWICE, you could have told us how the car rides, what the performance was like from the little engine or anything else that might have been useful.
Not with you on the EV negativity, plus if you are keeping your petrol car for 5 years, the saving in fuel costs alone, never mind cheaper servicing, lower road tax, local incentives and better residual values will more than compensate for your 8k price difference. Look forward to the comparison and hope you keep it honest and not skewed. BTW - how to pronounce Kamiq ? Combine vehicle with Irish fella and what do you get ? CarMick - simply clever....
