Just got one of these as a rental in Italy. Hadn't driven a Skoda before. I am actually impressed how well it drives. It's fairly quiet and smooth, the 6-speed manual works great, I don't know which motor it has, but it gets up to speed on the Autostrada. Could always use more power though. I like to drive, though, so we'll see how it handles through the twisty mountain roads. Unless they swap me out again, I'll have it for six months and that does not worry me. They gave me a Seat Arona before and the thought of that thing for another six months was causing me to lose sleep.
As much as I like Mat and his reviews, I gotta say he could do a better job reviewing more budget oriented cars. It seems like recently he’s passionate and interested only in luxurious or exotic cars. I was really looking forward for Skoda Scala and some other ordinary car reviews...
This is spot on, I had one of the SE models for a hire car for a month and Matt’s feedback on the driving experience is spot on, it’s ‘joyless’, offers limited feedback on what the cars doing but on the motorway it was a fine mature ride and did the job around town too. The ride height is exactly as he said too, surprisingly low sitting feeling even at max height. The infotainment with CarPlay was good and easy to use too, you get what you pay for and this really felt fair enough for the money. That last comment that it’s ’okay if you drive for the sake of driving’ was spot on. I also found the storage was perfectly adequate so bottle comments are only thing I’d say weren’t reflective of living with it. Still, This is why I trust this guy after all these years, he always seems to nail the experience the cars will give
Very good review! I live in country, where Kamiq is produced. I think Kamiq does not look like so pretty as competitors, but it is practical, roomy, modern a bargain compact crossover. Kamiq is built on base of VW T-CROSS, but it is in segment of OPEL MOKKA,VW T-ROC, KIA XCEED, FORD PUMA, no in segment of OPEL CROSSLAND X, VW T-CROSS, KIA STONIC, FORD ECOSPORT.
Part exchanged mine last year for a Focus estate ST Line X as needed more space. Don't need the space now as bought a van, so bought another Kamiq Monte Carlo :) From my experience with Skodas with previously having an Octavia a vRS, I think it's the best SUV if you don't need too much space but want a 1.5 TSi Auto with 150bhp and a satisfying bit of power - It's an absolute no brainer compared to Audi Q2 for example. I also think due to emissions and actual fun factor, that 150bhp is harder to find now in automatic, especially with virtual cockpit including normal buttons and knobs. Cornering LED lights and rolling indicators is so generous too. Grab these while you still can!
However, Škoda made a great car out of Kamiq. They did the same with other cars, like Octavia, Kodiaq, Fabia and so on... Quality of Skoda cars is awesome, trust me.

Just made a 33 mile journey without much thought about fuel economy but it showed 50.1 mpg overall at the end of the journey. It does improve as it runs in so these low mileage test cars probably are not indicative of ultimate performance. You can hear it as the engine beds in as that odd thrummy 3 cylinder sound becomes more apparent as time goes on. Amazed at how fast the DSG 1 litre higher powered unit pulls away from start leaving other cars grinding through the gears and my fears that the 1 litre would lack power were groundless. Using the new eco ethanol fuel and no apparent drawbacks. Very competent car and I had a 1.5 Karoq DSG before but with that from standstill anything less than delicate press of the accelerator resulted in a horrendous clatter from the traction control which I hated. I think this smaller unit is a better option with the DSG gearbox as you have no direct clutch control and the big engines just push out too much torque. Handling is OK and I find the tyres need to be kept at optimum pressure as even a minor underinflation does seem to affect the the directional feel of the steering. Brakes are good as proved yesterday when an entitled lycra clad cycling couple just walked their bikes across the main road without much thought of oncoming traffic, though the new rules in the UK are confusing and everyone now seems to have the right of way except the motorist.
We have kushaq in India ie based on kamiq and skoda has distributed features in both cars equally instead of making it perfect for both countries. Like touch AC, better steering in kamiq and digital MID and lumbar support in kushaq
I am driving a Kodiaq and I have tried Karoq a couple of times for a test-drive. From the SUV's, Kodiaq is definitely the best. Saw Kamiq at the dealership when I brought my Kodiaq for a scheduled service inspection... It's nice from the inside (digital display and so on), but the boot looks a little bit too small. It might just be an optical illusion, but Scala looked way better than Kamiq when comparing it one after another. On the Karoq, it usually felt a little bit too jumpy & rocky on the speedbumps, Kodiaq handles those way better :) And when you compare the pricing of its peers, it's definitely the one to go from pricing perspective - has best value for money :) Also looking forward to seeing more new Octavias! Thanks car wow for giving a heart to my comment
I forgot if I edit it will go away
Not a bad jam jar 1.5 I think is best choice 0-60 in 8 secs isn't bad !! Buy a used one with low miles is the best bet with manufacturers warranty!!
3:21 Nice advertising for Skoda with the check engine light😂
Don't think the engine was started
understand what it means first
We have kushaq in India ie based on kamiq and skoda has distributed features in both cars equally instead of making it perfect for both countries. Like touch AC, better steering in kamiq and digital MID and lumbar support in kushaq
Mat's getting more and more aggressive towards car & suitcase treatment as time passes 😅
What a Mad man.
Very cool and good car, it could really outrun the rest of the V.A.G. bunch for quality and space.
Quality? No.
Vinnisl a I drove the car for a week. It’s significantly better built than the Seat Arona or VW T-Cross.
Nice video to wake up to. Matt smashing it as always 🔥
Manual handbrake is the best! How else are u gonna handbrake turn, with a button???
Looking at getting one in the 1.5 petrol automatic, I do short journeys to work then longer journeys on the weekends (1-3 hours) it looks ideal!!
Great review as always
I am driving a Kodiaq and I have tried Karoq a couple of times for a test-drive. From the SUV's, Kodiaq is definitely the best. Saw Kamiq at the dealership when I brought my Kodiaq for a scheduled service inspection... It's nice from the inside (digital display and so on), but the boot looks a little bit too small. It might just be an optical illusion, but Scala looked way better than Kamiq when comparing it one after another.
On the Karoq, it usually felt a little bit too jumpy & rocky on the speedbumps, Kodiaq handles those way better :) And when you compare the pricing of its peers, it's definitely the one to go from pricing perspective - has best value for money :)
Also looking forward to seeing more new Octavias! Those looked incredible during their reveal.
