    Steve, your a star. Took a driving lesson the other week. Instructor told me to stay low. He never explained why or the hands! When I got into the course it was a mess…..this explains why!!!!! Now I have the final piece of the jigsaw. BTW…I’m a subscriber. CHEERS bro 💥🏌🏻👊

    Left shoulder up all the time.

    Update - Steve, just back from range. After your tip I was hitting 280 with range balls and smashing them down the middle with a very slight fade. I can honestly say I’ve never hit the driver so well and consistent 💃 Im going for a new driver fitting this Monday and was close to cancelling. Now I can’t wait to see how far I can smash Prov1 balls with the new Callaway or Ping driver with an after market shaft. I’m buzzing and can’t thank you enough. Simple wee tip with BIG results THANKS AGAIN 👊

    Steve - have been working on left shoulder down in the backswing and your tip of keeping the hands lower to promote that was really good! Question: lower hands on take away will help get left shoulder down with irons too?

      Yes it will, but don’t lift the left shoulder too much at impact - only a little. Lifting it too much at impact will make you thin the ball because it promotes hitting up.

    Understood about the shoulder works. However, I am slightly confused about the ball position. It looks like it's in the center of the stand, like an iron shot. I was taught that the ball position on a driver should be align with the left foot heal? Can you clarify?

    I don’t know if it’s camera angle or if it’s part of your swing system, but it looks like the ball is actually back in the stance, a bit further back from middle. Is that correct? I only ask as I’m new and everything I’ve seen says off the front/right heel or even ahead of that

    • @stevejohnstongolf
      @stevejohnstongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been working on concentrating on the left shoulder, and then the arms and hips following the shoulder turn.
    Are you saying this idea is more consistent, or is it two ways of looking at the same thing?

  • @mikerodrick2430
    @mikerodrick2430 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What works for me is at address, square setup but hips open or closed depending what shot you want to hit. A fade or draw. Swing along the hip path, not the shoulders. I was allowing my hips to spin towards the target & my arms weren't catching up which put me in front of the ball instead of behind it. My drives were low bullets that rolled forever but my carry distance was much less because of the low trajectory. Closing my hips at address & keeping them there until impact changed everything. Does the same for my irons as well. It forces me to stay behind the ball.

    I’ll add this as I have been having trouble setting up closed until now.
    Me: long arms and not long longs.
    I could not set up the way he describes in the video and sever others and maintain a closed shoulder stance/posture for draw with driver without doing the following. Knees slightly bent(not straight). Driver head about a foot behind ball. This also allows weight just aft of neutral and stratus is off already in back position a little AND COMFORTABLE I will add, ready to go forward with body when hands come through.
    It’s what I have to do because of shorter legs and long arms.
