    Early wars are tough! Let me know what you all think, and problems you've had!

    As a new player I think I get it! Everything is bonkers basically.

      Hahahahah, more true than you might think!
      Dominions is amazing, because every single game is SOOOO different, and flavorful in different ways. Its very cool: stick with it, and YOU'LL soon be the guy throwing flavor at people, and killing them in cool and neat ways!

    As a noob who doesn't know what to do, what is the correct response to my awake expander getting horror marked and soul slayed by a bump?

    • @AOReaper
      @AOReaper  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you have an awake expander and you get soul-slayed in a bump against another player, you need to report them for cheating and using a level 5 thaumaturgy spell in the first 12 turns ;)
      All jokes aside, if your awake pretender gets "screwed", so to speak, its definitely a downer, but you can pivot to respond by shifting power more into other avenues, such as research, or abusing "elf tactics" to "steal" provinces instead of straight up fighting for them. There are a TON of strategies, very nation specific, but if you started with an awake expander and they get horror marked/cursed/soul slayed, you really just want to use them when they're around, and then shift your resources ELSEWHERE, even if its sub-optimal, because putting money into a sinking ship ends with a sunken ship, and you broke.
      Hope that helps my friend!

    I'm a terrible person for asking this, but are you Canadian or Australian or something?

      Hahaha, no worries mate!
      I'm Reaper by blood, and Reaper by lineage ;) What made ya ask, out of curiosity?
      -Edit: Just saw the second post: nope, that's just how I learned how to pronounce it. I've been using that word since I was probably 7, but it really doesn't come up in educational settings much. Nerdy settings (RPGs, etc) sure, but not in education, so I just never really used it other than in gaming, so I never much thought about it.

    I think blood poisoning is underrated :)

      I agree completely! Though oftentimes it CAN go wrong with high regen opponents, I really love it in small skirmishes!

    Can you explain candle influence, I have some temples but my domain is reduced to 3 candle provinces. I have awake expander crow monster for niefelheim for expansion and stacking HP for Regen bless. But I think I lost all of the thrones to different factions I didn't expect that it will snuff out my domain influence despite i have like 10+ temples. I have 4 domain 3 turmoil 2 sloth 3 cold 3 growth 3 luck 3 drain.

      @@AOReaper deep dive to dominion video pls. I think it changes things to be more defensive in my spread too thin expansion. That I neglect infrastructure support of temples and supply lines. I underestimate the enemy because of my early advantage to expand into a thawed out snow areas that made my niefel giants weak along with my pretender god. I think testing units neglect the dominion strength of how a nation plays.

      @@AOReaper I think it's annoying I have to cast multiple Wolven winter to gain an inch of advantage. When the AI is actively expanding because they can afford to throw hordes of zombies. I thought I liked map nuked but I'm always surrounded with opportunist AI. Placing 3 gygja with bodyguards to support the province defence hopefully to defend against small enemy harassment. Skratti to cut deeper to the enemy territory guerilla. While line of giants to soak their large armies in cold 3 territories. I also feel underwhelmed with niefelheim turbo communion. I thought that 3 drain would make me outlast them because of unlimited fatigue sustain with turbo communion. But the damage output of gygjas are underwhelming, but maybe it's just the letting the AI out scale me because of resource difference. Compare to total war, the game lacks diplomacy hopefully like offering peace deals along with gifts: Map info, trade deals,resources gems, gold. With a breakable time table of peace time period/non aggression pact. Military access would also nice without attacking the temporary alliance.

      @@Zenith121691 The game certainly doesn't pride itself (or really even try to) offer a ton of diplomatic options with the AI. You can "NAP" with them now, but that's about it. This game is far more about one Pretender ascending above the others, and is thus far more hyper-aggressive compared to many games, and can feel overwhelming at times.
      Turbo communions against the AI, however, SHOULD be very effective. You MIGHT be more effective vs the AI hordes, which are often MUCH larger than player built armies, casting singular large spells (which you DON'T want to turbo communion for), so you should try that out instead. Oftentimes, something as simple as Grip of Winter cast in every battle will help you out IMMENSELY, and then using your turbo communions to pump out unlimited hordes of skeletons is a good approach (or possibly even delving deep into blood, if you prefer... great summons there that are quite annoying to deal with, as well as agony spam, etc.). When facing overwhelming hordes, Fear spam is your friend. You need fear spam + some massive damage spell that hits a LOT of targets, Blood Rain + Bloodletting, for example (as if you primarily have undead hordes roaming around from your turbo communion, you'll virtually ignore the effects, etc. Gotta be creative here).
      I'll be getting that video up soon to hopefully deep dive into dominion control and spread, because it sounds like you lost control of it pretty early on, and that's tough to come back from. Once somebody gets ~7 dom in a neighboring province, good luck getting it out without massive work.

    Why on earth are you talking about earthquake and rain of stones in a video about early warfare? These spells are not going to be available as solutions to mictlan running thirty hellblessed jaguar knights at you in the first year.

    • @AOReaper
      @AOReaper  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      True, maybe not super early, but those spells DO factor into people's early wars. As we all know: the multiplayer battles generally consist of people attempting to rush THEIR research goals, and then crushing others the second they hit them. Considering the game of Dominions doesn't end after turn 12, I thought it would be a good idea to point out level 5 research spells that people WILL be casting on them, don't you? And spells such as rain of stones are mid-late, but for many people that don't know what they are: they're going to spell doom if they don't start preparing for them early/mid (imagine a newish player not even STARTING to form counters to these spells until they see them, haha). And remember: at the end of the day, I'm teaching people what I see often, and what I know is effective/used, so that they can begin to use them in their battle plans and games. If you experience something completely differently it wouldn't surprise me, but I AM going to brush up on common spells they will see often, to give them a higher chance at success (as opposed to attempting to specifically stick to very specific sets of scenarios, which I don't think is very helpful).
      Now: if you'd like me to make a specific "how to counter a sacred rush in the first 12 turns" video, I'd be happy to do that for you. Just let me know which nations rushes you're struggling with, and which nations you play, and I'll try to orient things around those for you.
      As always: thanks for the comment and feedback!

      Also: just to test this out for future reference: I just ran a game as Agartha. At turn 13, I had level 4 evocation with only 399 RP left to hit level 5 (aka Earthquake time) with current research at 154 per month. I very much think it is relevant to discuss the relevant spells for early wars with people that might be coming their way by turns 14-15. I understand if you disagree, but this 100% is important for early wars ;)
