Neal is unlike the majority of public servants. Usually they speak in such convoluted double-speak which is their lifelong training that what they say comes across as just gobbldegook. But not Neal Katyal. He speaks frankly and clearly and in language we can all clearly understand. He's a terrific find for this situation, where the wheels of justice are grinding slowly and very finely.

Can we stop calling it his house? It’s an event venue that is for rent. It’s a country club which sells memberships. He’s legally not even supposed to be staying there longer than 14 consecutive days at a time. He had classified material which he shouldn’t have even taken to begin with stored in what is essentially a public place. He also can’t claim ignorance due to the fact that some of the material was stored in his personal safe. He’s guilty as sin.

Katie, bravo. I am proud of you. Your interview probably is the most needed common sense discussion of this situation. Your interview of Neal Katyal is the clearest explication of what it means for Trump. Whether Trump removed classified materials to hide incriminating material or use the information to make money from the material, the fact that such materials are in his possession illegally over a year he has left office should be sufficient to indict the man. Wise.

    • @slister45

Why did he not destroy these? Any chance the documents might be used for black mail? Or is it possible they could be sold?

What do you mean by "storming"?!?! Also, trump's lawyers have been talking to the FBI for months and had ample opportunity to turn the boxes over voluntarily or at least arrange a time to do the search

I have full confidence in Merrick Garland's DOJ. He is meticulous and discreet. He doesn't hold big splashy news conferences, which is what people want. But I'm glad he doesn't run things that way. I heard someone compare him to a duck --- calm on the outside, but under water his legs are paddling tirelessly !

No what he does is authorize his DOJ to view parents as threats to society. Yeah right he is great.

This is a very clear, fact based, unbiased interview. I was glad to see you addressing the statements being made to try and turn this investigation is some sort of "witch hunt" or political act.
Those boxes of documents were actually seen, on camera, during news reports watching him moving out of the WH. I remember seeing them and hearing reporters commenting on it. So this isn't even new. I hope and pray that justice will finally be done.

Always like listening to this guy, an expert in his field who is always straight down the line and fair. NK is also very educational and have learnt a lot about the US justice system, which might be based on our law, yet is so totally different than here in the UK where our law is generally non political.

Really, current presidents shouldn't have the authority to declassify information either. The classification authority goes thru great pains to ensure the classification is accurate.
Anyone desiring to run for president should first have to pass a secret collateral investigation FIRST before approval to run, and a TS/SCI before confirmation.
If you're handling the highest classification information, you should have to pass the background investigation necessary to do so.

He assumed he could declassify them just like he moved the path of hurricane Dorian, with his sharpie, to include Alabama. Remember that?

It all boils down to this these boxes should never had left the White House. Also if you had nothing to hide why didn't you return all of them not only 15 of them. Oh wait Trump thinks he's above the law.

If these documents are highly classified we will most likely never know the contents. That would be a National Security issue.

I've heard comments about how difficult it would be to protect Trump if he were convicted, and that said difficulty would likely lead to home confinement. But I don't see how he could ever be any safer than he would be in one of the SuperMax prisons the US has. He'd have his own cell and supervised, solitary recreation time. All behind 2ft thick, 40ft tall concrete walls. What could be safer?
