Bill, I love your boat. I discovered Llew's videos and sent him a message too. Really like your bench settee and your choice of fabric. The cabin looks superb. Terrific work. Your diesel stove is perfect. Llew told me you travel with your family and dogs and feel like you could keep going forever. I'm single and retired with a 12-lb doggie. I've been shopping for a small, economical boat to live aboard for 6-8 months of the year (I'd probably find shoreside accommodation from Nov-Feb.). I'm very inspired by your and Llew's style of boating. Economical, minimalist, simple, and focused on enjoying life, not on endless boat maintenance and expense. I've gotten tired of shopping and finding nothing but larger boats with propane heat and cooking, plastic throughhulls and seacocks, endless unnecessary electronics, and price tags over $50k. I love the idea of having a simple powerboat for travel and carrying a sailing/rowing dinghy for fun and exercise while at anchor. Do you think a man in my life circumstances could make an IS25 a spring/summer/fall home? Do you know of any for sale? Any shopping tips? If you or Llew ever plan to come over to Sidney, do let me know. I'd love to meet you and Torphins II and have a good chat. Lunch is on me. I remember when it was enough to just call it a motorboat.. then it became a "cabin cruiser" , and now its a trawler...even if its barely bigger than a box of band-aids. I like small boats..
I have wondered about that too. I think some of these boats were ordered by customers with specific preferences. I guess the person who ordered the boat that Bill ended up with wanted it on the starboard side which is the traditional placement for steering in a boat. In fact the word starboard comes from the words steer board. Long ago boats were steered with a oar or a board not a rudder. The Viking longships and other boats were steered this way and always on the right or seer board side. I think the port side must have got its name because that is the side they tied the boat up to the port so they wouldn't damage the steer board.
Actually for many years the left side was referred to as Larboard which when yelling commands was a bit confusing. I think the British Navy renamed it but not sure.
I watched this yesterday and forgot to comment, so I watched it again, lol. It seems to be true of all boats, even though it's the same boat, made by the same people using the same plans, they are all different. That's part of what make boating so interesting and fun. I must confess I like the layout of your boat better, like the dinette configuration and the windows you added. Still, there are things on Bill's boat I like too. ***** Yes Gary, so true. I'm Bill, Llew's friend and recipient of his skillful video talents. It is all about compromise when you don't have the money to do it your way, or just order the boat of your dreams. I too prefer Llew's dinette setup but that would have been too much work considering all the other things I did to the boat. And perhaps, in time, I will actually get to like this dinette setup and end up preferring it. It will certainly not be too much of a problem I'm sure since most of the time we are just 2 people using the boat and rarely need a table for 4. Cheers, Bill
Hi Bill, you hit the nail on the head with the cost and time issues. I'm sure the new engine eliminated many other things! You did a masterful job on the galley, very well thought out and executed. I think smaller boats are a lot more fun because you tend to actually use them more. I have a Willard Vega 30, new to me and which I'm having a ball working away on. I hope to spend time in the Gulf Islands this season, maybe we'll meet up some day.. Regards, Gary
Really great stuff real boats for real People all you need for comfort n safety but no more a boat many working people can afford without going over the top Brilliant n Not powered by twin 300HP or more outboard petrols you need a loan each time you run it good choice guys have fun enjoy it n be safe ops n thanks for posting

Yes, I think you are right. Bill had only had the boat for a month when I made this video and as with most used boats there was quite a list of things to be repaired. He's done lots of work on the boat since I made this video and it's all shipshape now.
None of us have one. Our Yanmar engines are very reliable. There isn’t really much other than a catastrophic engine failure that would stop it. As long as it starts it’ll keep going and we all carry spare parts if needed.

These are great little boats.. Look really great for cruising.
Not much to look at, but a simple, tough design. It shouldn't even burn a gallon fuel per hour just poking along.
