This arrangement is in homage to KOs Nigerian(father) and Grenadian(mother) ancestry. The whole feeling of as the lyrics say "joyful and triumphant" 😉
Thanks for this info - makes sense! Very nice to see
And you cannot help moving with the beat..and smiling!
@shirleyfisher8313 absolutely! ROTFL
Did you ever think you'd dance to O Come All Ye Faithful?!!
We both know the answer to that one 😅
Once you hear this version of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" you can't unhear it, It's great!
And as Kristi Mitch and Scott have been together since high school they've learned exactly how to and when to just Blend ... You see more with Scott and Mitch on their Super fruit channel! The match and blend are fantastic!!!
THIS is the way this song is meant to be sung - with unbridled joy!
So glad this reinvention meets with your classical approval! But who could not be impressed with a traditional Christmas carol turned into an Afro-Carribbean dance party? Yet all the classical elements remain. This is Pentatonix at their very best. Congratulations on reaching a new YT milestone! Sir H is the new Hotness, and well deserved.
It's always great to see classic music reinvented! I don't think it's right (or fair) when people won't even give such creations a chance - never judge a book by its cover eh!
Cheers!! 🙌
I had the same thoughts the first time I watched this video. There is no way one can listen to this and not find themselves tapping their foot, bobbing their head or bouncing in their chair 😁 As soon as I saw the choir robes I said to my daughter "They're calling for the faithful, and here they come!" Thank you again for your fantastic breakdown! 🎄🎁🎼🎵🎶🎅
☺💃🎄
OK "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" - an a capella band wins a Grammy singing an instrumental ballet classic. The hits just keep on coming...
My favorite song!
I love the face of the man in the centre of the choir people the moment the turn around, just pure happiness 😊
I've been a choir director for almost 40 years. O Come All Ye Faithful has always been my favorite carol for the opening of the Christmas services. But this definitely takes it to another level. I listen to this on repeat throughout December (and sometimes through the rest of the year!). Thanks for your insightful reactions!
When my daughter was in primary school her class did this PTX version in the Christmas assembly never thought i would ever hear PTX blasted through an Australian school it was a bop👍👍
of all PTX's hundreds of stunners, THIS remains fixed at the top of my Top Five Faves 💃🏻🎶🔥🙌🏻💖
I love that the "build up" Hairless mentions is actually Pentatonix "summoning" the faithful. "Oh come all ye faithful!" and here the faithful come in their red robes.
Very well said!
I always get positive energy from Pentatonix, especially if I can watch them singing. Pentatonix and live Queen videos helped get me through the worst of the pandemic.
I absolutely LOVE this track! The way PTX can add their own twist whilst still paying homage to the original is incredible! It’s such an up to date, original concept, demonstrating diversity to perfection. Christmas is a celebration and I think this upgrade is celebration personified. I’ll never get bored of this one. Brilliant reaction as always 🫶🇬🇧
🙌🙌
I never get tired of this, even in July
So glad you enjoyed this version. I've always found it a sort of ho-hum carol but that was forever changed after hearing this version. As you might guess, Kevin had a major hand in this arrangement as a nod to his Nigerian roots. I absolutely agree with you that it's the best way to start a day in an uplifted mood! Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown.
Thanks Terrie! It goes to show that any song can be transformed in any way! It's just about people daring to do so. Thanks for watching 🎶
So joyous and Kevin is absolutely relentless! One of my favorite songs of any genre.
First line says it all...Joyful and triumphant!!!😀
I absolutely love how they have taken one of my favorite Christmas songs, added an Afrikaans beat to it, and kicked it up a notch to create something I love even more if possible.
This is like the good, Southern Baptist version of the carol.
Sir Hairless bopping! I love to see it! You have got to be pretty darn low in order to not find some sort of joy from this one! I really feel for those people. Your breakdowns of their songs is so educational! I appreciate you and your reactions! Thank you! Well deserved subscriber numbers, sir!
haha even I do occasionally bop ;) Thanks, as always!
I love the look on your face as soon as the video starts. For me, I find this version to be far more uplifting and joyous than the original. It just seems much more fitting for the true meaning of Christmas.
It's a look of "what is happening? Oh? OH! Oh yeahhhhh"
This is my favorite of their Christmas songs. It's so different from the original and crazy fun. You can't help but groove.
And yet they totally capture the original version at the same time; yeah they changed it but they were so respectful in doing so! Also among my top three or four PTX Christmas songs.
This is the most joyous song they've ever done...!
That is the surprise….you are dancing to this song? 😂 I think it is fantastic! T ✌🏻
haha! I mean, how can you not dance to this 💃
Yes, absolutely! 😀
@@SirHairless
This was Kevin’s idea for this African spin on this Carol
Yes, good mood song for sure! I agree about Mitch and Kirstie handoffs. Seamless. They can match or soar as individual voices, distinct from each other.
Love this ! PTX have really changed christmas music for me. What a vibe
So vibey!
Sing in exultation indeed! I have to dance around the room anytime I hear this one, it is definitely one of my favorites. Thank you as always for the wonderful information and explanations!
💃🙏
Such a wonderful energy! Also way more fitting with the original lyrics. JOYFUL indeed.
They still perform this on tour and it's on their latest greatest hits album, for obvious reasons. If you liked this vibe you'll like quite a few songs on their Holidays around the world album when you finally get to the Matt era of the band
I look forward to it!
It’s always risky to say this is my favorite PTX song, so maybe I’ll just say favorite Christmas song by them, at least until I hear something new and fabulous. This one has topped my list for several years now, so it’s got staying power. I love the African/Caribbean influence, but it’s the “Yeah, Yeahs” that delight me. So glad you liked it too! Peace …
Yeah the "yeah yeah"s are very catchy and energetic! Peace
i LOVE this arrangement, one of my all time favorites from them
This has been my #1 favorite ptx song now for years. It might have finally met its match tho in "Pure Imagination " mash-up with "Christmas Time is Here. "
This was always my favorite, until The Prayer and now O holy night and Kiss from a rose! Although this one is still my favorite to dance to of their Christmas songs! Loved your reaction! It’s soooo joyful!!!
Joyful reaction for a joyful song!
Choir>>>>>>>>>>>>
I love choirs, I immediately tear up. Every time. So emotional. Goosebumpiest Goosebumps ever!!!!
Also, I really love listening to you. Not only the knowledge you have, but also just the way you talk. And sing. I watched all Pentatonix reactions yesterday and it made me so happy, bc I love Pentatonix and I love to appreciate them together with others. 😊
Thank you 🎄 and happy holidays
Thank you! Happy holidays 🎄
This was a joy to watch. PTX, imo, does Christmas the best. They have a unique spin on their songs. Avi and Kevin were known as the meat and potatoes of the group. It fit them perfectly. As for multi-tracks, that does not bother me in the least. It's still them! Looking forward to more. Thanks so much for joining us in this journey!
Thanks for this comment! Completely agree on multi-tracking, just like to point it as there have been comments by those that are adamant that there are only ever 5 parts 🎶
You just have to watch them live and see. Sounds the same!!
@@juliewade1393 I can't wait! That's the sign of a truly great arrangement 👌
@@SirHairless yeah there are some fans who take it way too far. They sometimes have slightly different arrangements for live to accommodate the only 4-5 voices. Or clap/body percussion tracks like I Saw Three Ships (in concert they get the audience involved in the body perc :) . Like there are some fans who are diehards that say there is NEVER any touch of auto-tune (dont get me wrong, they don't "need" it, and consistently prove it so in their live performances), but there's even an interview where Mitch says they aren't machines, every human makes mistakes, and the occasional pitch correction for a studio track is standard in the industry. Just like compression, reverb, multitracking, etc. We love PTX, but some folks need to calm down and touch some grass sometimes.
@@N_F414 Such an adult comment! I know the individual talents in PTX are extraordinary, and their live performances are phenomenal, but the studio recording is simply a different animal. If PTX wants to remain competitive, tweaking those official videos is just part of the business. It takes nothing away from their skill, creativity, and riveting stage presence. I think it all went off track years ago when one or more of the members said they didn't record songs they couldn't perform live, and the fans just took that literally. Thanks to the technical expertise of reactors like Sir H and DJ Switch, Pentaholics are slowly coming around... but it's a bit like trying to turn the Titanic! 😉
That was too me blinking magnificent. They have never disappointed for years. ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this version. Joyful. Happy. Their creativity blows my mind.
I sing in a community choir but I don’t read music. Your explanations/breakdowns of the songs have helped me quite a bit to understand how my part fits in/enhances the overall sound. Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying Pentatonix. I have been in awe of them since they first performed on The Sing Off. That show gave an important boost for acapella singing in America. Pentatonix and Home Free being the standout groups have given the genre visibility with their innovative and amazing performances.
Ptx can't not go wrong....the amazing best out there..❤❤❤❤❤
You will love analyzing their version of 12 Days of Christmas.
What they do with that is just jaw dropping in a completely different way from what they did with this.
Day after Xmas...old, lonely widow woman sitting alone, feeling down...........and then I listen to this from my beloved PTX and I feel HAPPY!!!! Thank you for your reaction and thank you PTX!!😊😊😊
Thank you for watching! I hope all the videos you watch, and the music in them, bring you a lovely and warm Christmas spirit 🎄Wishing you all the best, and I hope you're cosy!
I highly recommend you react to them in the studio. There's a short documentary called The Recording of Evergreen. I'm convinced that these 5 talented people share the same soul. They're incredibly close as friends and musicians.
Yes this is one of the many things that makes PTX so extraordinary. They are very close; there's no drama, no conflict, no prima donnas in a group full of extraordinary talent.
Yes, this is on my list in a section labelled 'different' 😅 I'm not sure how much music is involved in the documentary or not, but I imagine it's mostly speaking? Sounds very interesting as I love seeing behind-the-scenes footage
@@SirHairless I’m glad you are considering Recording Evergreen. There are no interviews involved, so rest easy. It’s a fly-on-the-wall true documentary (although short) that shows them arranging, rehearsing, debating choices, reacting to choices, etc. I found the section on Kevin’s body percussion really interesting. Keep ‘em coming, babe, you’re doing great!
@@pjb3583 Oh that sounds cool! I'm sure will give a lot of insight into their arrangement choices, too
The made a very traditional carol song, that is generally soo serious, the beat of the song invited you to celebrate, and sing and be happy, and like other said Kevin pay tribute to his father origins on Africa
Thank you for your sharing your expertise! And I admire how you enjoy non-traditional takes on music. One reason I enjoy Pentatonix is that their members enjoy seeing together so much, I know they work hard but they present their work as joy.
🙏
Great reaction - as always! It's rare that pentaholics will 'spoil' a reaction because how you react to those unexpected bits are what we are thirsty for! You can deduce that if you see a lot of requests for the same song, you may THINK you are prepared for the surprise but 10/10 times, you are not! That's the beautiful musicality of PTX!
You already heard how they start a song traditional (be it xmas or otherwise) and then 'upgrade' but this one is completely their own and you can't help but be joyful!! 💚💚
Very nicely put, thanks!!
This one stays in my shuffle year around. I will never get tired of hearing this one. OCAYF is my favorite carol and I love how they made if so joyful.
I would love to see your reaction to Pentatonix's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Only they could perform a Christmas song with no words but keep it visually fun and musically beautiful. Merry Christmas!🎄
Thanks! Hoping to get this out before Christmas
I think I have mentioned before but if I didn't Mitch and Kirstie are able to emulate each others' voices and often use that as a way to play with the sharing of parts or allow one to start something and the other to finish it. Actually I think its more Mitch emulating her but whatever they do it's grand! You may have noticed a little of Call and Response in this too, which is very African/African American church tradition and quite the departure from the homophony you pointed out that the traditional arrangement is all about. (Sorry if I repeat things you've said I tend to write my comments while the reaction is in process...) I had a director who used to say "silence is the canvas o which we paint our music" (but I think she was just telling us to shut up and pay attention...).
This is one of my very favorite PTX Carols because of it's utterly refreshing take on a very very traditional song!
Thanks for the comment! If your director's quote was a way of telling you to shut up, it's a rather philosophical way to do so 😅Yes, this is a completely new take on the carol and how great it is 🎶
I absolutely love this version of Adéste fidéles. I discovered Pentatonix one year before and I was mailing link to this joyful Christmas song to all my family and friends. It makes me so happy! I love that you reacted and visibly enjoyed this song! 😍🤗💃
Having grown up with this carol when I was in church choir...that descant took me back 30 years lol. Our choir was small, and very few were allowed the 'privilege' of singing the descant. It was in my more natural range, though, and also more interesting vocally, so I would often end up singing it by accident lol.
Idk if i can ever go back to the classic version after this one. Kevin's influence was all over this arrangement, and I love it.
YES DESCANTS. I'm a high soprano so that is Christmas for me, that and Angels We Have Heard on HIgh. Excited for thisssss. I'm so glad that no one ruined the 'real' surprise from this one! Love your analysis as always. If you like vocal pairings, I strongly recommend Little Drummer Boy! And as always, I gotta push My Heart With You 💚. This is my favorite along with those two, so thanks again!!
I so agree on those two songs. My Heart With You in the round, onstage, with a single microphone is brilliant and stunning to the ears.
Funny you mention that - later today my reaction to Home Free's version of 'Angels We Have Heard...' is coming out. As a musical person married to a composer, you should check out their version (if you don't already know it) because it is NUTS. And maybe stop by my reaction too ;)
Little Drummer Boy will be one of my last ones before a Christmas break 🎶 And My Heart With You is on my list for some time in the future. Thanks for the ongoing support!
@@SirHairless I keep seeing it on the way to doing something else, I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the rec! You know come to think of it I may have such an attachment to the way the high soprano sounds on the glorias that I didn't want to listen to an all male group, which is sacrilege because I KNOW there are glorious male voices who can hit it. For shame, me! Thanks for the heads up, I eagerly await your reactions to those, both as a whole and specific points of the songs!
One of my favorite songs of theirs. It does make me feel good. Thank you for your wonderful reaction. 😺
We used to sing both the English & Latin versions in my school and in the church choir and the descant was my favourite part , but it was always quite a solemn affair ..then I heard PTX's amazing version and thought that this is the way we SHOULD celebrate and be joyful !
This one makes me so happy every time I hear it.
Yes;, PTX nailed this!!
Truly a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Second post on this. I just listened this again and gained enough ear that Scott was doubling Avi at the end, after the choir joined. Thanks for the education.
Your Reactions are AWESOME!!
☺
Joyous!!!
They are so young 😊
♥ Yessir!! I smiled through the whole reaction!
This was your BEST reaction to me
Thanks for another interesting breakdown of this fun rendition to an old hymn. Being Anglican, this was a staple at every Christmas and it is a bit boring. THIS version is anything but! I loved the unique beats and then the smart choice of adding a gospel choir for the last portion of this arrangement. It kept it from sort of just repeating what they started with. It added extra joy. I don't think I can ever go back to the older versions now. This will always be running around in my head every time I hear the old hymn.
The gradual build up towards the choir climax was a nice touch! And such good energy throughout 🎵
Thus one always makes me cry happy tears. In just a few days I get to see them in concert in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a musician who just LOVES their high standard of musicianship. I know I will be floating all the way through the concert.
I cry every time too! With joy! I'm jealous that you get to see them soon. Have a GREAT time! How could you not?
Have an absolutely wonderful time!
I have watched all of your Pentatonix reactions and you are doing absolutely fantastic! Keep it up!! Suggestions... Amazing Grace, The Prayer, and Hallelujah. I guarantee you will be absolutely blown away. They released these songs on their Christmas albums, so even though they aren't technically Christmas songs, they are included in the Pentatonix Christmas playlist.
Thank you! All of these are on my list - one of them SHOULD be coming out this year at some point, according to my current schedule (which isn't set in stone)
You were smiling the entire time, I knew you would.
😄
Absolutely love this one! It's one of my favorite Christmas songs from them (right up there with "Mary Did You Know?").
It's a song that I've always loved, especially from all my years in school choirs, and their unique interpretation of it is my favorite version of the song. The African/Caribbean beat (as others have noted, a tribute to the heritage from Kevin's parents) make it even more joyful than it normally is.
I love the rhythm they have given this song. The arrangement is so tight and fun. It just makes you want to dance. The addition of the choir really gives you the feeling that the whole tribe, or village, is joining in to celebrate in unison. This is by far my favorite rendition of this song because it's so inclusive, bringing everyone together. PTX is so good at taking a song and giving it an updated more current sound and feeling but keeping it recognizable to it's original sound. They all look so young, how time flies. Thanks for the breakdown of the musical parts and explaining it in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. You have a very clear succinct speaking voice and don't use a lot of "um", or "I mean" while talking and explaining. You are very easy to understand and follow. Thanks again.
Thanks for your comment, I couldn't agree more!
And funny you say that - one of the reasons I started this channel was to actually improve my speech as I wasn't happy with the way I spoke. I heard that the best way to do so was to film yourself and watch the playback 😮I literally never film myself do anything, so thought why not combine that with my love for music somehow and, thus, Sir Hairless was born. Anyway...thank you!!
I love the little smile when it first started! Great reaction!
I grew up with the traditional version too. Listening to your example of the traditional version then discussing the choir as the "spoiler" and knowing what you are about to hear... And then 2 seconds in 😂😂😂
Yes,that's the surprise. Love it!
I can't hear it in my head the traditional way any more.
My favorite "Matt" Christmas song is You're a Mean One Mister Grinch. It's jazzy, cool and smooth af
I'm excited to hear this! Have not yet entered the Matt era...
Great breakdown. Glad you enjoyed it. You moving was evidence of that. Have a good day!
Thank you! And you
This is my all time favorite version of this song! So very joyous - As it should be! 💖
I love their Christmas music. My favorites would be Hallelujah, Mary Did You Know and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
I feel like I keep saying the same thing, but I love your breakdowns and reactions to their songs. I’ve listened to them hundreds of times and I always learn something new, or have something pointed out that I never noticed before.
I really hope you have Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (my favourite) and The Prayer (a close second) on your reaction list. I’d love to see your breakdowns of those ❤
You can keep on saying the same thing 😉 Haha no seriously though, I really appreciate it and am glad you're enjoying!
Of the two songs you mentioned, one of them will be coming out this year 👍 And the other one is on my list for the future!
When I was young, my mother and family sang and taught us Adeste Fideles. It wasn't until I was in choir that I learned the traditional version, Oh Come All Ye Faithful.
I love this arrangement of Oh Come All Ye Faithful. My whole life’s experience with this song has been the traditional church version - beautiful but very formal. The first time I heard PTX sing this I was in love!! They just manage to make everything better! Love your analysis and reactions!! 🎄❤🎄
💃🎄
American soprano here - the descent is traditional here, as well! 😊
Thanks for letting me know!
Their most joyous songs, ever!!!
💃
This version was exceptional. My first time hearing this changed my thoughts on traditional Christmas music. And, shortly after I heard this, I heard Home Free perform "Do you hear what I hear?" You should do that one. I promise you won't be sorry. Merry Christmas from Texas!
Agreed! HF's version is gorgeous and so unique!
What a great reaction! This song always puts me in a great mood.
Just wanted to let you know I listen to a LOT of Pentatonix reactors and you are my favorite :). I am very impressed with your discriminating ear on the first pass through any song, you pick up most of the voices. I took 2 years of music theory and ear training in college and I know the challenge of Harmonic Dictation. I also like that you stick to the task at hand and don’t ramble on and on about personal stuff. You also edit your video to cut out much of the dead air so that you are speaking most of the time. That way you get the most information into your videos, kudos to you. But probably the thing you do that I love the most is your transcription of the music onto manuscript. I love to take each voice and follow the manuscript as it plays so thank you for that! You have a great channel, keep up the great work!
I don’t know what it is but you doing a Pentatonix video brightens my crappy day!! Thank you!! Love the knowledge you provide!!
Very much agree! My face lit up when I saw a new reaction in my feed 😁.
Thank you both 😄 Lovely to hear, and let's hope the crappy days come few and far between!
I was so excited to see your reaction to this, this evening! FIRST one I chose to listen to. You didn't disappoint! It's so celebratory! It makes me happy, and I feel that it really deserves to be a celebration as well as a solemn honoring. Both work for me but I just can't get over how happy and energized I get when I hear it. If church was like this when I was coming up, I wouldn't have balked at going. Kevin was inspired when he did this arrangement! I hope this left you feeling really good! Thank you for taking us up on this suggestion!!!! BRAVO!
Thank you so much! It's a great arrangement 🎶 So much energy and joy!
Your joyful reaction was as fun to watch as the video. Rewatched it 3 times! Your analysis was right on. So glad I found your channel.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!
so joyful!
PTX is a staple in our home around Christmas and has been for many years. With 7 Christmas albums (yes, just Christmas) there’s a lot to feast the ears on. They have always done such a great job mixing traditional and new, which makes their appeal so enormous. I truly hope they win a Grammy for their 2022 Holidays Around the World album. I found it to be so unique and such a masterpiece.
With you starting at the very beginning of their journey, you have a long yet fantastic journey ahead of you. Loving your reactions and am finding myself looking for them now!
A very Merry Christmas to you and yours. ❤
Thank you! I look forward to the journey ahead 🎶 Merry Christmas!
Such a great reaction! I hate to repeat myself, but I enjoy your commentary very much.
Oh I don't mind you repeating yourself 😁 Thanks, as always 🙏
Another great song with an unusual arrangement is a song written by Kirsten and she sings the lead. She looks so beautiful in the video.
What's it called?
So glad you enjoyed this. Really love your reactions to ptx. Amazing grace would be a great one to check out and also the prayer
Thank you 👍
Just got home from PTX Christmas concert in Orlando. I just can’t pass your reactions, I learn something new every time. Thanks.
Wow, I trust it was amazing?!
Love your PTX reactions! You are clearly very musically talented. I love reactors who obviously know what they’re talking about and are easily able to make intelligent comments. You, like Pentatonix, are amazing Sir Hairless 😊
Thank you!!
Your reactions are a wonderful mixture of joy in the craft + technical analysis. Love it! PTX 🔥🤘
Thank you 🙏
YASS!!! I love this so much!
😃
It it comes!...
Wow, never heard this song by them, what a fantastic rendition! Brought me heavily to tears - of joy, so touching! As I sing for many years in very good choirs as well I love and feel the joy of their singing so much. Thank you, I'm a new subscriber, love your analysis and comments! Love from Germany
Vielen Dank!
Excellent chair dancing!! This is just so full of joy (and togetherness 😜)- I think the angels in heaven sing along with this one. This is just the best version of this song, exuding the joy that was meant to be the message of the song!! ❤💚
My chair wasn't quite grooving with me which limited the movement - maybe it's time for a new chair eh?! Haha thanks for watching 🙌
They are blessed. I'm always looking forward to watching one of their videos.
