I love my 05 C320 4matic. Purchased at 84600 miles, currently at 111500 and it has been everything i dreamed of.
People usually have the C240 so its really nice to know i have something special. Not just a regular C class.
Nothing but regular maintenance and understanding all the parts that are absolutely necessary to replace at 100k miles will help extend the life of your M112

I have a 2002 CLK 320 that was not well taken care of but the engine is great. Just changed the ignition coils and spark plugs and it came back to life with no problems. I enjoyed your video.

What was the problem with it or it ran fine as you thought, but even better with spark plugs and coils?

Just watched your video for the first time. Thank you for the very detailed and informative commentary. Very well done. After owning a 04 Chrysler Crossfire Coupe naturally aspirated I finally found my dream car, a Crossfire SRT6 with 25,000 miles on the odometer and like brand new. And what an absolute blast. Have since upgraded to a smaller supercharher pulley, dual cold air intake, ECU and TCU tunes as well as 3 cooling mods. The car pulls like a beast, its fascinating for that period of time. When the SLK32 AMG first came out, Mercedes touted it as the fastest production car at the time. Scary thing is that car pulls and pulls and pulls even in the higher speed ranges due to the linear powerband of the supercharger. Amazing car and beautiful motor. Very little can go wrong and with the various forums, the few things that can happen, it's easy to fix even if you aren't a mechanic with youtube videos or DIY pictures. Thank you for putting this series together.

Awesome video. Was hooked when I heard the accents. happy I own one of both of your favorites. I have a excellent condition 2001 w208 with 210k on the clock (ex German owned) . Absolutely love her. Very impressed by tue tech for the time and best of all everything still works. Plugs may be expensive and difficult to get to but they do last significantly longer than "regular" plugs.
I am actively looking for a wreaked Crossfire to do a manual swap on my car. Pretty much bolts on swap from gearbox to shift lever and pedalbox. Biggest challenge would be fooling the TCU/ECU into thinking the car is always in Neutral and modifying the prop shaft.

    • @GalimotoMedia
      @GalimotoMedia  หลายเดือนก่อน

Wow, thank you for your kind and detailed comment! The Crossfire Manual swap is also popular with W202 C43 and W208 or W210 55 AMG models, although overseas owners have the luxury of also picking apart Manual SLK320's or Manual C320 sedans/coupes. Apparently, most owners leave the automatic gearbox lever in Neutral and hide the whole shifter mechanism inside the central tunnel... although you may need to reprogram ECU's to avoid a check engine light.

Great video with lots of info, it was a pleasure to watch. I bought a beautiful SL320 last summer, 1st reg was June 2001, Milano IT, so it is one of the last R129 models. It was imported to Denmark in 2016 and has only driven 107.000 km and is in great condition. But it does suffer a bit from vibrations and it could very well be the "crankshaft pulley problem". I have seen this described in BenzWorld as well, and the car is actually in the shop as I write these lines to have this issue fixed (hopefully).
Thanks again for your effort, it was interesting to get your take on the Positives and the Negatives related to the M112 🤓🤓

@@GalimotoMedia The vibrations i could feel in the steering wheel are gone now. My mechanic changed the crankshaft pulley and that seems to have done the trick.

Not sure where you’re getting some of this information. The M112/M113 does NOT have head gasket issues. Failure is VERY rare and almost always caused by overheating. It’s almost unheard of.
The 2.6 is the same engine as the 3.2 and all other variants. The only difference is displacement, they are all equally reliable. There are no issues the 2.6 has that the others don’t.
There’s NO 50/50 chance of reliability when it comes to these engines. If they are properly maintained, EVERY M112/M113 will achieve very high mileage/km even if abused. Being hard on the engine early in its life means nothing regarding longevity and reliability. Engine failure would be extremely rare in almost any case. Even though many are neglected, there are tons of C240’s with incredibly high mileage and minimal repairs. It would be far more rare for one to NOT achieve very high mileage/km.
Finally, they are really not that efficient at all. My M119 V8 W124 gets better fuel economy than our C240 estate. It’s still a GREAT car, and very reliable. It’s practicality as an estate is excellent so the fuel economy isn’t a problem.
Overall the M112 is nothing special or impressive whatsoever. It’s far less revolutionary than its predecessors, and doesn’t do anything exceptionally well. The M113 actually made less power per displacement than the preceding M119 V8. However it has been well proven to be a very reliable and durable engine.

"Being hard on the engine early in its life means nothing regarding longevity and reliability."

@@GalimotoMedia I’m talking specifically of the M112 engine. I know some master Mercedes technicians who have seen many hundreds of cars equipped with these engines. They’ve seen all types of neglect and abuse, and almost never a total failure unless something catastrophic has happened. Some people don’t change the oil for 40,000 miles, creating a lot of sludge buildup and an overall noisy engine.. which is corrected after a simple oil flush. I’ve even heard of people running them out of oil and driving for extended periods of time. After the oil is refilled, they are usually back to running properly. The M112/M113 does get noisy/chattery as mileage increases due to timing chain slack and lifters, but again... total failure is EXTREMELY rare and they are noisy engines to begin with.

    Great video.
I have a c240 S203 made in your local MB factory at East London. It it coming up to 100k miles and the engine is the least of my worries.
I use 98-100 RON fuel and over service due to limited mileage. It is super smooth and just so reliable and despite being 20+ years old, the car is 100% working. Not specifically engine related but the combined water and ATF cooler can be an issue on early models (Valeo made) which resulted in requiring an expensive gearbox rebuild.

Hi guys. Great video. Very informative& factual. Very jealous of your South African weather. It might seem hot for you but we can dream of it back here in England. I digress. I have a crossfire srt6 & am very respectful of the engine. My plan is to keep it regularly serviced as I won’t be selling as fully fallen in love with this ‘style-icon’ of a car. A mixture of brash, American street-racing arrogance & efficient German-engineered autobahn power. What not to like?
It really is an affordable classic compared to what Porsches go for at entry-level. The Daimler/Chrysler merger might not have worked out but I ended up with their forgotten love-child & I love it.
    Happy, safe motoring!

    Cool video guys
I have w202 c240 at 295000 kilos not very kind to it cause it sounds awesome
    i daily it
The motor itself has been solid just absolutely hate the slow gearbox.
Have valve stem seals problems but the smoke is minimum helped by keeping the oil level exactly to mark on the dipstick
have had water pump failure at 280,000
    Engine mounts
    Gearbox mounts
    Thats honestly it.
    Honestly not much else wrong
Again i say i have stopped babying it and it just takes it all day
The fuel use in town is freaking horrendous!!!!!!! Partly because of the slow gearbox but on the highway even at high speeds and hard kickdowns i average 11l/100km
Its quiet solid and just a cool old school run around
